It's getting old seeing this in response to any complaint. This game stopped being "In beta" the minute they started taking real money from people and promised no wipes.
If you're going to say something like "they needed to test the cash shop"...
1) It's already been extensively tested in STO.
2) That could have easily been tested by giving everyone a stipend of Zen with the understanding all would be wiped before launch.
I agree once you spend actual $$ in a game, it shouldn't be listed as Beta.
But Cryptic NEEDS to update their site, cause it says OPEN BETA all over the place
PWE's site lists it as live according to their "gamelist" thingie that has a separate open beta option games can have. It's been listed as live since it launched.

Like the Auction House that had the EXACT same economy ruining bug in it?
The reasons listed dont really mean its not beta but you know what does? Bans. People are banned for exploiting bugs found in an "open beta". If this was really an "open beta" then these exploiters wouldnt mean <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> since there would be a wipe when live. Them being banned means that they dont plan on wiping for a live release and that the game is for all intense and purposes live allready.

Beta is just a term to define the state that the software is in. Some beta software is only made available to a select number of users, while other beta programs are released to the general public. In most cases, a software developer will release multiple "beta" versions of a program during the beta phase. Each version includes updates and bug fixes that have been made in response to user feedback. The beta phase may last anywhere from a few weeks for a small program to several months for a large program.
The term beta implies that the software needs further development before it reaches it's release phase. Some companies will offer beta for free while others may charge for early or any access. Some companies may charge during the entire beta phase.
You are confusing the term "beta" to mean free. Beta is simply a way of defining what state the software is in. If a company chooses to do a soft release open beta, e.g. no character wipe. This should never be confused as a Full Released version of the software. Beta is only defining what state the software is in. Crashes, instabilities, bugs are inherent in beta.
This is why the game is in beta. Although you may feel this game is not beta because it does not follow certain aspects of most mmo. It is beta due to the fact it has crashes, bugs and instability. If you do not like Beta wait for the full release version of the game.
It's Obvious people don't understand the differences between Closed Beta, Open Beta and Live (not going to get into the head start phase).
To put it simple:
Closed Beta = testing
Closed Beta to Open Beta = Full system wipe and everybody starts for scratch in Open Beta
Open Beta = Game is essentially live, testing still in progress under load, cash shop normally opens, rollbacks to address major issues expected.
Open Beta to Live = No character wipe, testing finished, major problems have been fixed, only minor ones remain.
Live = Game officially opens, no major problems. Only major issues normally result in rollbacks.
Needless to say, there is a slight difference between Open Beta and Live.

I am sorry, but people are really failing to understand what a soft launch is. A soft launch is a beta test in which the company tests their product with a small set of dedicated individuals who wish to try a new product. Much like soft launching a new taco in select areas, these things are not free. When you enter into a soft launch, you are accepting the fact you may not like everything about the product or that it might still have some issues that need to be worked out. Much like any other soft launch though, we have to live with our investment.
There is not going to be a wipe, because the game is indeed launched, but it is and should only really be considered that by those who are willing to take the risk that comes with a soft launch. Just because you don't understand a soft launch doesn't mean you are getting ripped off.

Yes, if you restrict it to just the word "beta". But when you say "beta test" you imply that it is a test, not the real thing. A test launch for a moon rocket won't carry the astronauts all the way to the moon and just declare mid way that it's not a test anymore. Things that happen during a test don't affect the real thing, that's the whole purpose of it. When you don't wipe a beta it stops being a test and it instead becomes a release with an excuse. It is quite literally releasing an unfinished game and should be treated as such.

Just as old as seeing the constant messages asking for a wipe. Besides which it is Open Beta so yeah. Not sure how you can argue with that. If you don't agree then wait until Cryptic officially releases it to play. Seems simple enough.

Sorry, but no. Instability and crashes do not make it beta. They make it software. Release software of all types crashes (windows, anyone?)

officially releases it to play? like how we're playing it now and it's marked as live on the PWE site? It's really laughable, even the mmo sites are poking fun at them and other companies calling releases like this "Open Beta", soft launch lol. Have you people not played mmo's before? This game is launched and live, they want the confusion so that half the community doesn't complain about stuff not working right lol. They will try to portray it as beta as long as they have any believers because it makes their jobs easier.
Its Beta, here is a sample list of other games currently in Beta but accept money: Dota 2, Smite, Firefall, War Thunder
I guess if they had a button that said join us in Alpha you'd be arguing that it's Alpha. I can call my dog a cat but when I take him to the vet, guess what? He's still going to be treated as a dog... They can call it beta if they wish but everyone that pays attention know the difference. Can't wait till PcGamer comes out and calls them out on it...
as much as you may try, youre not going to get through to these people. if this was back in the old days they would be adamantly insisting the world is flat, despite any proof to the contrary. let them believe whatever they want to believe. if they play a few more mmo's, especially pwe mmo's, they will come to see for themselves in time. for now you are just wasting your time.
like the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink

hey man, just calling it as I see it. every dev is doing it, even good guy valve soo...why does Dota 2 even have a beta tag still? afaik its release ready, using your logic they just just hurry the **** up and drop the tag, but will that change anything? if Neverwinter dropped the beta tag will it change anything? obviously as shown by yesterday's incident there are still some thing to iron out. im not sure why its hard to understand why the game is still in open beta.
They purposely refer to it as beta and to us as "testers" (even as recently as this week) rather than players because it provides them with a safety net that they can fall back on whenever something goes wrong.

yeah when they drop the tag the half the community that buys into being beta will start expecting them to perform better, less crashes etc. so they will not drop the tag for as long as they can. the tag limits peoples expectations.

exactly, its become a marketing gimmick used across many mmos for years now, for as long as their customers will buy it. and yet theres still so much confusion lol.

So far though not a bad beta.
Like the Auction House that had the EXACT same economy ruining bug in it?
Why did you have to make a new post, when you allready knew there was a similar one?

It's live on the pay money screen... it's open beta on the bug report screen.
I think you mean games that claim to be beta, while rubbishing that claim by accepting real money. It's not a completely new trick.
Open Beta.
