I'm trying real hard to believe that you're not new here.
All of Cryptic's games are in beta.
Always.
Forever.
It's shocking, I know. But yep: I'm not new here. I wasn't new when Champions Launched. Or STO. Not that I bought a Lifetime for either game, mind you, but I've seen what Cryptic produces. And honestly? I think this game's style, classes, combat, and system design are incredible. The balancing metrics and number crunching on this game are yummy. I'm still trying to figure out the presumed combat length and player-hit-to-kill numbers and the ratio for minions/lieutenants/bosses, but I love it, regardless.
Really hoping I can find it out so I can recreate this feeling of tight and responsive combat elsewhere.

Great Weapon Fighter tanks? Who are you kidding? Cleric tanks. They draw -all- the aggro.
You keep taking the words out of my mouth (so to say) ...well said
Seriously as a kid Id spend hours down at the creek catching crawdads. I'd bring em home just to hear mom tell me, "GET THOSE SLIMY THINGS OUT OF MY HOUSE!" Those were the days.

Todays generation lacks patience. If they cant do what they want when they want they crawl the walls crying and moaning. If it wasnt 3am id sugest going outside.
Dummy don't you realize that more than half the people playing this game don't live in America.
Neverwinter Online Open Beta is an ongoing success
Well now they think they've found the problem; I was able to log in to character select for all of maybe 20 seconds. I came here to let everyone know the servers were up again & when I checked back to go ahead & launch... I was disconnected again & now it says the server is unavailable. I guess it's off to bed for me *sadface*.
I actual issue is the fact they have currently have 3 MMOs running off the same server, each with thousands of players trying to play. When the server goes down so do all 3 games, they could lighten the load a lot by using a dedicated server for each game.
It's not the same server, by a long shot. It's the same server-structure, though.
Server banks house dozens of individual servers networked together to handle processes. The "Login Server" isn't even a single server on the farm, it's probably between 3 and 7 based on the maximum number of player logins at the same time.
The problem is that since each game is on the same server structure network to handle inter-game communications a really bad failure in one can propagate along the network and shut down all the servers. And the only way to find such massive errors is, of course, to have them happen and repair them.

Yeah we don't all live in the middle of no where. Welcome to the city!!

Wow. That is such a bad idea (having 3 games on one server)...

My dad used to take me, my brother, a "net" made from a bent wire hangar & cheesecloth, a bucket and some bacon fat scraps out to the canals in Phoenix to catch crawdads! They're good eating

Yep feels like a router problem to me ........ just a guess though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I'm a big STO player, and love that game, but this has totally taken me for the past few days. Most especially the Foundry here, since it's far more engaging than most STO Foundry missions; let's face it, online games are mostly combat, and fantastic storytelling and combat belong here more than they do in the Trek universe. I'm also enjoying those little tweaks to the engine and such that I keep running into. For a F2P (and thinly veiled P2W) game, it's been well done so far.
As to the problems of the past two evenings, if you've been around this long, then you know this kind of random crashing is simply Cryptic SOP for the past year or so. I don't expect them to have it totally ironed out until late this month after the new STO expansion launches and dies down.
Nothing like having a Beta test crash two live games to liven up your night!
We probably shouldn't call this Open Beta though. Its all but released. Lets call it a Gamma Test. Because it just blew up the Federation and made countless people Hulk out.

Anyway, rather disappointed that servers are down. I was having fun. This is definitely not as fun. Also... my crafting is not getting done!
Update: we believe we may have identified the issue that has caused the server outage and are looking into a solution. Thanks for waiting!
That issue is called 'stupid ideas like releasing the game before it was ready on a server with two other games'.

... but that costs money ...

Update: we are making excellent progress and are working to bring the servers back up as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience!

What ever excellent mean?!... Can they give us back the time we waited? That would be excellent for me
