This x10,000, I'm willing to bet the people who complain "Why don't they have spares?" have never set foot in a data center, and absolutely do not work in IT. I am a network administrator for a casino and I can say I encounter this kind of ignorance daily.

Now this I can understand not having a spare.

bah quoted wrong, 300,000 is too much too have as a spare for anything.

This kind of transparency is awesome. Previous games never even mentioned why they are down, expect players to take it and shut the hell up.

And of course you got the grumblers still, no matter what you do, they will always whine, complain and ***** about anything.

Keep up the great work on updating us!!!

Take your time, we can wait, its only a soft launch, i like this game so ill wait.

AGAIN this server crash took down CHAMPIONS ONLINE and STAR TREK ONLINE and Trek Online is one of the big MMO's its more than a soft launch they need the servers up FAST. Its not just us affected

I wouldn't care so much, but I JUST bought the founders pack and I feel like it's bad luck when you buy something and it immediatly stops working... :(

Of course it is. I'm not one of those babies with "bedtimes" and "jobs."

I'm one of those babies with a monster (toddler) and a full+ some course load.

It's my usual MO, and I always suffer for it.

    But... No regrets!

Never give up, never surrender! :D

It's free beta, but in the meantime..I can't hop over and play my Champions Online game either cause its not just Neverwinter. (I'm fine with neverwinter being down...I love the game, but what happened that it screwed up two other games too?)

Why don't you guys quit complaining?

Go out and get some fresh air, get up and stretch, come back in a couple of hours.

    Very true, and I agree.

The only thing that scares me is that I have discovered not once, but twice that going out for fresh air results in possible marriage. Now I just poke my head out for work.

I personally kind of find it a good thing in a glass half full kind of way. Seeing how others react to their little virtual world being down makes me feel more normal in the world of humanity . . . ;) Has anyone here heard of Jeff Foxworthy? Public Forums remind me of how he sees a State Fair . . .
If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, "You know what? We're all right. We're dang near royalty!"

again revenue is not profit and profit is not someone pocketing the cash.. its reinvested..

And OP was talking about 30k being peanuts. If they are pulling $450m revenue in a year then 30k truly is peanuts

Personally, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they took this time to incorporate the upcoming regular maintenance into this as well. Makes more sense to do that than to bring down the servers again in a few hours.

To think, I noticed the failure and was going to log in to STO (been a while and wanted to get back up to speed)...fortunately, I looked here first to find that this Beta failure also took down two additional PROD environments. Oh well, the AAR for this one would be interesting, but will likely never be even discussed openly in summary form here or on the STO fora.

.... What is concerning, is this shares servers with 2 games that are not in beta and those have tanked as well. It just seems awkward and strange to me that Cryptic has designed everything like conjoined triplets.
alot of games have this feature its to balance out the load link here what is a problem is that their whole system is affected when 1 or more hardware failures occur.

LOL wow 30k is not what a server costs.. for a HP dl380 G6 with 40 cores and 500GB of ram you are talking about 70k to 100k. 30k you obviously are not in IT lol

That describes pretty much every game forum out there that isn't being strictly policed and moderated (read: threads deleted), primarily because the average member of the public is a whiny ****.

Please see post on page 20 or 21 regarding this. As mentioned people who sit in their home and critique as though they know everything about everything ISP/Cloud/Gaming are nothing other than clueless. Short example below.

    Equipment required.

    Servers (X,000,000 USD)
    Routers/Switches (X,000,000USD)
    NAS (HAMSTER,000 USD)
    Install (HAMSTER,000 USD)

WHo knows what the deals worked on licenses and such come to. I am sure they are run redundancy as its data suicide to not do so and in the case they had not run redundancy all of your toons of level and gear would be lost during massive failure. Please moms basement dwellers stop complaining.
