I think if you were to survey the frequent posters in the "Off Topic" section of this forum... you'd find that we've all already been a part of this "history" of which you speak.
All of us were in existence at some point in the past (I hope...haha) -- and all of us are gamers.
Seriously, though. I've never been tempted by the phase "Be a part of history..." Is anyone else ever tempted by it? Really? When I see the phrase "Be a part of history...," it just means one thing to me. Somebody probably wants money from me.
Nope, not the least bit tempted to click that link.

Defiance is actually pretty cool. If you played Mercenaries for the XBOX, it plays and feels a lot like that but in an MMO persistent world. I currently play it on the PC with my Windows XBOX controller.
What I think is really cool is they they have said things that happen in the TV Series will have an immediate impact upon the game world after it airs that day. Then to make that even more awesome, they said that whatever happens in game will be relfected upon in the next upcoming Season of the Show! How awesome is that!?
What's neat too is that they already have a couple actor like-nesses in the game and they use their real voices too! I do think, if they keep up with the promises of an evolving world based upon both actions of the Show and Game, this will be a truly epic title. It already has taken the place as my favorite MMO Shooter. I actually enjoy it over any FPS I have played.
I did check the links in the OP, they are good links at the time of my post time-stamp. Here's the Official Site Promo Page: http://trionworlds.com/en/games/defiance/
OP: I fixed the subject line, as it was a bit misleading.
It plays a lot like ME3 does. It's fun. You can actually damage people and NPCs by ramming your vehicle into them. Good times.

I played in the last beta and the game is fun. I will probably pick it up after launch once there have been a few patches and the game has ripened a bit.
It was real amusing to be in a firefight and see an enemy run over by a passing car. The game is sort of shooter-light, with rapid out of combat HP recovery and plentiful ammo in the form of frequent roadside caches.
