Forums tend to over-represent lore fiends. Drow will dominate this poll because most forum regulars have read the books, but most players won't have heard of them, and will roll humans.
Drow , Dark Elves , Blood Elves , doesn't matter what they are called they have a large following in mmo fantasy games.
It's funny how the answers to this thread are dwarf- and drow-dominated, yet the poll shows humans, tieflings and drows as the most popular choice.
I'll be rolling a Tiefling, gotta jump on the bandwagon. (Well not really, I think Tieflings are an awesome race with a lot of possibilities for a "tragic hero in search for redemption" background, which is something I like to play; also they look similar to the draenei which is a race I happen to have played and loved)
The Tiefling seems to have benefits for a couple of classes, it's hard to resist, not to mention horns and a tail, but seriously, elves - where is the love?

From the current list, Drow (both types after 60 days), Human and Tiefling. Those are my predictions anyway. If dragonborn come, I think they will give any race, besides human, a run for their money. I think Humans will remain the top played race regardless.

Akntoa? Er'griff lael lodias alus whol darthien? Usstan dosinnalas orn tlu nuorin biu darthirii, ka nind morfeth mina lor n'nehr thuggish lu'mzild saph trantz darthien.
Drow will be most popular, they'll be everywhere. The number of Drow-focused guilds out there make that really clear.
Never been a fan of Drow, mostly because their debut in D&D was at the end of D-series and those modules were actually pretty awful, just boiler-plate hack-n-slash. Actually as much as I revere Gygax, he wrote pretty awful adventures. (Well not always true, the original Village of Homlet is a beautifully balanced starter adventure and I always thought it should have been packaged in the starter box, because it was vastly superior to B1 and B2).
That said, I wager some of the most interesting role play characters will turn out to be Drow.
For me, my main is Half-Elf, which is new for me, I almost never play Elves of any sort (and in fact don't really like Elves at all). But that's part of the reason I chose it, to make myself RP something I am not used to.
My alternates will be a Half-Orc and a Halfling. The Half-Orc was actually quite fun, to RP I mean.
I'll need help being an Elf though, I just ain't an Elf kinda guy.

Race has nothing to do with content, I don't understand why someone would try and compare popular race choices to the state of game content...
Oh, you're a racist.
Here's your sign.
IMHO most popular in the beginning will be tiefling, because it is not a 'standard' race and people will be affixed to those swishy tails and horns, and they get decent racials.
Once dark elf opens up, it will become the most popular. only because most people will have to wait the 60+ days for it to become public.
