    OP: tl;dr

Paid for items at STO and CO are always VANITY items. They change the look of your toon and that's about it. In the case of "different powers" about the only difference is the eye-candy sparkles and that's about it. In-game equipment is *always* more valuable and powerful Every. Single. Time.

The same is true with the Founder's packages. The ONLY things we are getting here are vanity items: a snazzy title, a mount that is no different from any other, other than what it LOOKS LIKE, a head-start on (really, really low-value) in-world currency called Astral Diamond, a.k.a. Dilithium, a.k.a. Questionite, and a the chance to tinker and play a little sooner than everyone else at large. Hell, even the "special PC race" is really just the look (skin and vanity armor) - *everyone* will get to play that race after a couple months.

By that time, other than a snazzy-looking mount (that is technically NO DIFFERENT from every other except what it looks like), a visiual style of armor and decal (special tattoo) and a title, there is nothing, NOTHING you can't have, for free, in game.

I'm amazed at how shrill these arguments are turning. Here's the deal: don;t want to pay any real money? Don't. I suspect I'll *still* see you in-game. If you don't like the game then leave. It's no skin off your or anyone else's nose. I mean seriously, people, get a grip on reality here. The premise is simple: if these kind of worries are causing you stress, you need to take a step back from your computer, go outside and take a real deep breath and reevaluate your life priorities.

Three Beta weekends, a stupid mask set, a fire spider mount, two month pre-access to a race, and some smaller trinket/titles is not worth anything near the $549.00 dollars they claim it's worth. The amount of content you're getting there is not even worth an expansion pack.......Look at the cost ratio for major expansion's for other MMO's, at $40-60 dollars on Average you get a lot more content compared to this $200 dollar extortion. I believer that the people who already paid $200 should be entitled to something more, hell a lot more exclusive items. Cryptic should also stop selling the $200 dollar rip off or lower its price.

Inevitably the whole argument here is the Drow race. How can they justify $200 dollars to play as a core DnD race with a two month head start? I am sorry, but I am already somewhat turned off at the fact that the race I would initially level a Rogue as will either cost me a $200 fee or a two month handicap. Who know's maybe a race change will available for a nominal fee or maybe Drow will available for purchase from the launch date for $20-40 dollars.....Sometimes I hate F2P when I get a watered down game.

Even if this was a pay to play game, I love Forgotten Realms/D&D/Wizards of the Coast/R.A Salvatore, enough to pay 2 play. Even if the $200 was just for the life time fee, If I have the money I would be willing to pay to play especially from what I've already seen of the game.
This is just my personal opinion though and I do see and understand all points of view on the subject.
    Take it easy guys.

Paid items are always a few points less than than end game award items in STO. So I don't think at this time pay to win is something you need to worry about.

Ships on the store are ALWAYS better than the ones not requiring a ZEN purchase. This kills your whole argument.

Not really an issue for me. There's an issue with one type of ship being sold in the store on STO being more powerful then the rest but it's not just the ship it's the type of ship Escort which includes the escort ships available in game currency reputation and veterans so it's really the equivalent of having light armor glass cannon style classes do enormous amounts of damage and have too much defense to offset the balance thus being not so easily destroyed, It's like having every magic user having too much defense but do very powerful spells and all the melee classes dying too quickly, that's not a store issue imo and just requires a couple of adjustments in STO.

I'm not sure what their store will bring but I don't think they will be foolish enough to offer gear in the store. They didn't with STO, every ship I've bought and every officer, has had to be equipped properly with gear that could only be obtained thru gameplay either thru reputation or fleet building to gain the maximum rep or fleet to obtain the best gear. I feel they'll most likely do this sortof thing with this game, guild building or reputations to buy the gear one needs to have the best shinies. And buying the best shinies usually requires multiple currencies for example dilithium in STO wasn't enough to buy the fleet items or the reputation items, it needed a second currency like fleet marks or expertise for reputation items to buy the gear you need. I fully expect them to do this in this game as well so that even tho you can buy diamonds from the Zen to diamond conversion, you'd still need to play the game in order to achieve the gear you want.

It works out well in the end.

Don't forget the panther companion, and the 750,000 astral diamonds. I bought it and I don't feel ripped off. Do you other HotN people feel ripped off? Oh and lets look at the cost ratio of a free game. hmm....

angrysprite and a host of others who have claimed that the founders packs have only cosmetic items:

The base pack includes items that are not solely cosmetic. The two more expensive packs include three beta weekends. There is more that could be said, but these items are clearly NOT cosmetic only. The absolute minimum we should expect on this forum is at least be accurate. It is hard enough to discuss things where normal English words like "exclusive" come to mean "unique until it is sold to others (most likely within sixty days). Imagine marrying someone who promises their exclusive loyalty means they will not have an affair for at least sixty days.

People who defend Cryptic are always changing definitions to things. First it was "cosmetic," then "exclusive." Most recently, it was "Dungeons and Dragons." Whatever they gotta say or do to make it seem like Cryptic has done no wrong whatsoever, they'll do.

Best not get worked up about it. Just play the game until you get bored, without giving Cryptic any money as punishment for them being unable to keep their word.

Usually, denying someone money for something they worked on is a pretty hefty punishment. Especially if you still get to use what they worked on.

Definitely. That's why they're making a Free to Play game. They'll never expect you to play for free!
