Unlike fantasy if I tire of it in reality it's not easy to have undone. If I ever find something work keeping for the rest of my life without lasers, I consider it. Almost got a ying-yang once but thought years later I may think it dumb. I was wisely correct and glad I didn't do that twenty two years ago.
I got a Grim Reaper tattoo back in 82' when I was in Sidney. It was an extremely drunk week with only bits and pieces of it remembered. No other ink since then!
My Best,
Ezra Steel

my brother has the eye of neverwinter tattooed on his arm, amongst other eyes
No tattoos for me but I recall reading Ray Bradbury's book, The Illustrated Man. There could be some interesting ideas with tattoos telling stories using the Neverwinter lore.
Einstein - "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."
The eye of Neverwinter tattoo sounds kind of cool. I actually didn't get my first tattoo until about a year ago. Both of my tattoos are memorials to my dad who died of cancer two years ago. The first one is the Mandalorian daily remembrance to the dead "You are dead, but I am alive and I remember you so you are eternal. The second one is a Klingon proverb, "if you are afraid to live then you are already dead". Both are very personal, so if I were to get a D&D tattoo it would probably something to do with death and loss.
I do tend to like putting script in my tattoos that is not English or living languages so that if there is a spelling error I'm not living with that regret b:laugh

I was branded by being raised by my grandparents I think. I don't have nor will I ever have a tattoo.
That is unless a cheap way to turn it 'on and off' were to be invented haha.
However I like seeing the occassional tattoo of somebody showing something they are life-long passionate about.
For instance I would get a D&D Tattoo not because I feel about it today but because D&D has been an important part of my past and has shaped who I am today. To me it would be very very similar to getting a "Mom" or "Dad" tattoo.
That Eye of Neverwinter has to be one of my favorite symbols from D&D but I think my personal favorite is the Baldur's Gate rendition of the symbol of Bhaal. However I'm not sure what I would get a tattoo of if I could because to me I'd want it to have a deeper meaning than 'cool symbol.'
I view the limited space that I have to apply tattoos much like I view stacks of consumable items in D&D. I could use it now, or I could wait for an opportunity to use it better. Thus, I haven't gotten any tattoos yet, and my stack of potions is often more than my character can carry.

It's not exactly "D&D," unless you hailed from Mulhorond... but I have a nice Ankh tattoo made the old fashioned way, with Indian Ink and a little needle wrapped in thread.

Note: I don't recommend getting a Tattoo this way, it is very dangerous and could be life-threatening if not done with sterile tools. Even then, with some "India" Inks, there is a fair chance at ink poisoning depending on what type of ink you use. There have been better developments in such inks though to make them non-toxic. Also, it starts off black and over time turns blue. I first noticed it changed from black to blue about 10 years ago. Contrary though, it doesn't fade if the injections are done close enough, deep enough, and numerous enough. Too deep however and you risk scarring and too much ink getting into your bloodstream. Mine has actually gotten a little darker blue over time.
One of these days, I plan on getting it redone professionally.

In other words you risk well being for a chance it could look like a prison tattoo? Pass. I'll get a "regularly done" one if I ever do.

Nah, prison Tattos try to look like ancient India Tattoos. Plus, that's about all they really have to work with. This form of Tattoo goes far back before more modern prisoners started doing it. Common misconception and ugly stereo-type..

I am wrong there and stand corrected. Still, if it can "react" and "fades" like you described, I'll go with modern inking options still.
Amen to that. Always work with professions when you want to modify your body.
I don't know about that. I've shut my fingers in car doors twice in my life. I'd say that makes me expertly qualified to maim/modify myself. Self taught, and all that.

By your definition I'd have a Master's in Self-Mutilation. The wounds are too numerous to count.
Some say I'm cursed - I call it "cosmically clumsy".

In that case you're the one I"m calling when I need a professional disfigurement.
Hey to each their own, I've heard some crazy requests hanging out at tattoo parlors, so professional disfigurement probably could be someone's career calling. b:laugh
I personally do not want to have tattoos on my body.(I have enough needles poking as it is)
Also I have heard of really bad things happening to certain tattoos.
For example my Dad who is a nurse told me that there was this one guy who came to the hospital and he had "I love Women" tattooed across his chest. Well the guy had to have heart surgery and after he came out of surgery the tattoo read "I love men"
BTW Never ever ever get a picture of someone's face as a memorial. It never turns out how you think it will.

I am going to get a tat of a longsword, ...on my ummm.... "longsword"... or will it be a short sword at rest and a longsword at play?? hmmmm.... just kidding... I'd never do that but I would get a tattoo. I've always wanted one of a dragon somewhere but I've never been too serious about so never committed to anything and thus never got one. Much like the other posters, if I am going to get one it has to have meaning to me in the grand scheme of life somehow.

No DnD tats, but I do have the Rebel Insignia from Star Wars on my forearm.
I've got two tattoos that I got decades ago. I have one of a black art-style dragon on my back and another tattoo of the Fianna clan symbol from the old WoD books. Liked the "swoosh" design so much I had it tattooed on my upper arm.
Comments
However! My good friend has the Black Sun's mark sized about a quarter of the length of his forearm.

Yeah, I strongly recommend getting any Tats done professionally no matter what style or culture influence is desired.
