I'm sure we gonna get som sort of companions in the game, but what I'm wondering is if they will be time based, like in CO, in other words you can only use them for an hour.
I also wonder if they will be bind on pickup or if we will be able to trade companions.
Myself I would like to see the kind of system they use in STO, where only a few is bind on pickup.
I have a dream of the STO Bridge Officer system being adapted for this game, so I can fully customize a band of five adventurers.

I asked about companions at Gencon and got some pretty veiled answers.... but reading between the lines I gathered, that yes there were companions but you would obtain them as you progressed through the game. I have to say this the Cryptic guys were so incredibly nice and they all acted like they were thrilled to be talking to the fans.
The turbine guys...not so much one just kept ogling my chest and asking lame questions about my favorite things b:angry I asked wasn't his executive producer female and he gave me a dirty look and walked away.
Anyway was really great to see Neverwinter and listen to Jack Emert and all the rest.

...
I highly doubt that. Pets have been central to previous D&D based games like Bo. So I am sure pets central to 4e themes like fairies, angels and kobolds would be in big time.
EDIT: sorry I meant minsc, the pet of boo

I like the idea of companions to a point. There's always going to be people and reasons to solo, but this is an MMO. Companions shouldn't be powerful enough that they give you a reason not to find a group. I think mostly they should be there for the witty dialogue options, not combat

Bare in mind that the content in this game is going to scale depending on group size and likely have a difficultly slider like other Cryptic games, so there is reason to group for better rewards from doing harder content.

Since it was said publicly even if...Cryptically, I feel that it seems a very likely outcome for this game you will earn companions in the game as you progress. If we get or have any more info on this from video or screen-shots, please post them here people and I'll link them to my FAQ.
But...umm..sorry for the rest of Turbine's inappropriate responses.

Every time I interact with the Cryptic guys it's always that way, what really excited wasn't so much what I saw, but their enthusiasm over the game, I did hear Jack remark that this is the best place cryptic has been in since inception.
As far as the turbine guys goes.....that surprises me I have worked with some of those guys and they usually very polite and treat gamers as gamers...I do know that Kate would be pissed if she knew one of her people behaved that way.

Screenshots or vids would be awesome but caution should be taken as there are some unsanctioned vids out there and I can only imagine how Cryptic would react.

Yeah it reminds me, all the reviewers in the 2 PAX events and E3 event all said that developers of NW booth were "very nice". Frankly, I am now doubtful why everyone keeps saying it ... Did they somehow develop some mind-flayer spell which made the visitors feels nice or what?

Yeah well it's gotten to be kinda of rare...I went to pax prime in 2011 and I never in my life seen more snotty developers that thought they were above the unwashed masses, Arena net especially... when you talk to the cryptic guys they act like they are genuinely glad that you took the time, that is a rarity these days.

We do get companions what we don't know I covered it in one of my video links (I believe its in the Foundry video list) there is a screen tip that says this
" After the Tower District you will gain the ability to call on a companion. Press C and click the Summons table to view current companions. You may drag any companion from the inventory to an empty summons slot."
This is from one of the foundry videos that they were demonstrating for the public so I'm assuming its in the game.

Yeah my question is still is it a companion or several companions over time?

Interesting, I didn't know a spell or psionic power could mimic the effects of psychoactive drugs.
