If we do all start at the same place, there's really only one way to do it.
"You all start in a tavern..."
I must be the odd-DM out then because I have never, not once, started my players in a Tavern. I like to be more creative than that. One of my more memorable intros started out somewhat like this; "You all wake up, groggy, bruised and tired. Your hands and feet are bound and your mouth is gagged. You can hear the distinct chattering and grunting of orcs as the putrid smell of burning timber, HAMSTER and ammonia fill and sting your nostrils. You slowly begin to recall the moments leading up to your capture when you hear the bellowing sound of a Rengarth war horn..."
This allowed the party to not only figure out how to work together to survive their orc captors but also to survive together the Rengarth raiding party that has attacked the orc encampment that they were taken to after the caravan they were in was captured while crossing Netheril territory, on their way to Cormanthtyr. Much better in my opinion than just starting them all out, meeting for the first time in a Tavern..

If you changed orcs to something else it almost sounds like this rave I went to...

This is a possibility. I expect we'll have a drop point, similar to that other DnD game, where everyone starts. Remember, solo play will also be available, rather than the forced grouping at all levels of PnP.

That actually feels very similar to my friend's but the difference being that his was always the same... Whenever we started we knew we were at campsite and then there is a high level map which we have to cross to go to starting city, though the distance would be small (you can see the city/tower etc from the top of tree). Then a small map with squares to reach gates. He sometimes made multiple maps and let u choose them. He used it because he liked having campaigns based on spot checks.
The point was, even when into was always the same, it was always scary and sometimes, even frustrating. Still at the same time enjoyable. For some maps, that was usually the scariest part.
But I do agree with truth. It might not translate well into an MMO game - dying as soon as you enter is not as simple as tearing a character sheet and copying the same one with different name and few stats changed. But I just remembered that and wanted to throw an idea.

Well racial starting zones could be fun. However, I disagree that if we all start at the same place there's really just one way to go. See Elder Scrolls series as examples.
I would however like to ask the most awesome people on this forum a qeustion:
Have we heard anything about the "tutorial" of the game? Will there be anything like the type of "very easy missions" where one learns the different basics of the game?
And another question, do we want that?
Would we prefer a tutorial like "Do this action and you can proceed (like, destroy theese barrels taht are in the way)." or more in the line with: "Clear this area! We'll give you hints (how to level up when your ready for that, where the health bar is, how to equip stuff when you get new equipment).".

A market could work too.
