Hell Pit Difficulty/Discussion

Well so I had a go at Hell Pit after being completely incapable of lasting a round last time it was live.

Weird, 64k Barbarian with nowhere near BiS had almost no difficulty this time with Day 1. Last time this toon couldnt survive round 1 of day 1...

Only thing which has really changed is using a Mythic Mystagogue with 100% companion bolster. In round 4 I stood around and let the Mystagogue take all the combat.

Verdict: Either it has been really nerfed, or my toon is somehow way more balanced than last time. My observation is the spawn rate of mobs is lower than last time and this is the 1st Hell Pit where I could just stand and fight and clear mobs fast enough NOT to get overwhelmed.

Oh I had Demons which I think are weaker than the Devils.

They tuned it down (mentioned in the patch note) and in my opinion, they tuned it down too much. May be week 2 will be 'better'.
Basically, one does not even need to 'play'. I ran in circle for 10 minutes (2min x 5). My companion took some aggro. The one or two mob who followed me for the circle did not dent my HP much. When my companion eventually be knocked down (that took a long while), I just hit a few and then continue circling.
No need for health potion, artifact, daily power. Not even the bonus shield/boot/heart/....
Round 5 was even easier. I ran the circle for the whole 2 minutes non stop.

They have both devil and Demon at the same time.

Wow so they should make it harder for people that are wizards like me and don't have the best of everything yet? I had an enhancer instead of a companion, maybe I will try my alisaurus tomorrow. I finished both days but I needed potions galore, and was defeated once yesterday and twice today. With five rounds it is hard enough. I don't see how you could survive without playing. Hope I can get a mystic Mythagogue someday.

Hell Pit has been nerfed into boredom.

Better than the Death-by-Combat-Advantage that it was.

That was why I was running in circle (along the wall) all these years. Less combat advantage against me. My companion this time is Air Genasi who is nothing special or BiS.

The content is scaled. I wonder if it scale differently now.

Does the 'bonus' last for a minute now? I think it used to be 30 seconds. It seems to be longer now.

If I remember correctly, everyone was scaled to the same level before (don't remember what it was). Now anyone below 40K gets scaled to 40K and anyone above 60K gets scaled to 60K. I assume anyone in between 40 and 60K are just not scaled.
This of course makes it MUCH easier for anyone above 60K or even above 40K.

But problem is this needs to be doable by 18K people with HAMSTER stats at least in the first week. So end game geared 75K+ players with 90% stats will of course find it extremely easy.

Think the only solution would be to scale the enemies to each persons IL, instead of scaling our IL, but that would be a first in NW.

@plasticbat Bonus buffs have always lasted for 1 min or exactly half the time of one round.

That is sort of how scaling worked when the game came out.

Day 2 [maybe I missed a day?] seemed pretty much the same as day one. Didn't use powerups. used one health pot. Nowehre near death. A lot less exciting than Hellpit when it first came out but much better than the last incarnation.

One thing I have noticed is that in previous versions there was a lot of being thrown around like a rag doll. Havent had that at all in this latest version.

In whole fight, the enemies( demon/devil/fiend) mange to hit only 6k damage. That's was their best hit.

My at awill hit at least 12k ( lowest hit). No HP potions where used( HP never drop bellow 70%). No arteacts, no mount combat power where needed.
Also 90% of fight time where just to use eldrith blast (warlock's at will). The combat companion killing all these enemies in arena easily.

I spoke with other players from friendlist and alliance where I am part. Some even did corner AFK, and companions where killing all enemies. So if even AFK player clearing Hell pit.

For now this is just 10 min aft event. Not a hell pit..

In previous Hell pit event time, enemies where at least trying kill you. Now it's just immitattion.

Inspired by the AFK mentioned above, I changed what I have been doing today to have some 'fun'. Standing instead of running in circle.

Round 1: stand in the corner. Let the mob hit. The companion seems to get certain aggro. The bonus was a skeleton. I did not bother to pick it up. When the clock was almost expired, my HP was low. I went out to clean it up.

Round 2: stand in the corner. Let the mob hit. The companion got less aggro. The bonus was shield. With 45 seconds left, HP was less than 50% and seems to going down faster. I pop the shield. When the clock expired, the companion could not clean up. I went out to clean up.

Round 3: stand in the corner. Let the mob hit. The companion had more trouble. The bonus was heart. The mob hit me harder. Pop the heart. Wait until clock expired. Clean it up.

Round 4: stand in the corner. Let the mob hit. The companion hardly got aggro. Did not damage enough. The bonus was skeleton. Number of enemies was more and thicker. HP went down quicker. Pop the skeleton. Drink a potion. Starting fighting. Start running as usual. Clean them up when the clock expired.

Extra bonus of this round watching the enemy hitting me: all these years, I did not notice Succubus was blowing kisses during their attack until now.

Round 5: this round are boss type and the red circles can really hurt. I figured I could not last for all the red circles. Hence, I did not stand. I ran as usual. The bonus was boot. I pop a daily, "Avalanche of Steel". Run around. After one minute mark, I pop boot. When AP filled up, I pop another daily. The dailies finished the Hell Pit.

    Day 3 - Devils.

Much more of a tangible threat, used the occasional power up [the heart heal up] and one health potion.

Still not too much of a problem, but certainly I would say twice as much incoming damage than the demons.

Since this event is kind of boring now, I made a sentinel loadout for my barbarian from scratch. I never play sentinel before. Not even when there were 3 paragons. I found a build guide to follow. Since it is a tank build guide, it means it is a threat build. That means I could not just do standing anymore. Blocking could only do that much. There was no problem and it was fun. It is pretty good for my elementary sentinel training and figuring out what does what.

The sword slices, it dices, it even makes julienne fries (whatever those are).

it is supposed to get harder after 7 completions so each week assuming you play each day it should get a little harder.

Tons of bot farming this event, then sell off legendary insignias, motes. Why not.. Sorry for sarcasm.

Are you sure it gets more difficult I mean I know everyone says that but every time so far I have felt that it actually got easier with the final fight being the absolute worst because I have found that staying awake for that one a bit more difficult than the rest of it.

Also, you can use whatever toon you want for this, but if you want a specific toon to get tokens of challenge or tokens of achievement then you have to use that specific toon when those options come up during the event.

I personally only use tokens of participation for the companion or mount tokens as that is still what I need the most and it does not matter which toon gets the tokens to purchase that.

It's an event. It's not supposed to be impossible for players. That's what content is supposed to be for. As it is, 10 min a day. Much like summerfest. I don't see a problem.

Day 5 Demons - really easy.

I used the semi-afk mode and watched my companion fighting the mobs.

Nearly died when the comp got nuked and I was surrounded by demons though.

Pretty much week one is the same difficulty each day.

Oh and I know its supposed to get harder in week 2 - I have run every Hellpit apart from one over the past few years.

Nake Blademaster run today. No gear except the weapon set (Mirage). No enchantment and no artifacts. Still has companion, mount and insignia (too much trouble to put them back). Item level 32k.

    Planned strategy: running in circle.

Round 1: Got boot. Did not use it. Running in circle. Pop a health potion when HP is low enough. Kill occasionally. No problem to finish it.

Round 2: This round is shield. After one minute mark. pop 'Avalanche of Steel'. Pop boot and took Shield. Avalanche of Steel to the end.

Round 3: This round is shield. After one minute mark. Pop shield and took shield. Stand still until the end to clean it up.

Round 4: This round is boot. After one minute mark. Pop shield and took boot. Stand still until the end to clean it up.

Round 5: This round is boot. Pop 'Avalanche of Steel'. Pop boot and took boot. After one minute mark, pop 2nd boot. Avalanche of Steel to the end. This round only pop 'Avalanche of Steel' to finish. No at will and no encounter.

4 health potions used in the whole thing.

I am not sure about this question. Both shows up. If it is about the 5th round, it was devil yesterday because I remember there were horses. I saw Demon and Devil in the 5th rounds. Both are the indifferent to me.

I had no trouble with week 1. 60+k, Mythic heal companion, AoE encounters, AoE mount powers and artifacts.

But it´s supposed to be doable by 18k, 30k, 40k chars. Even if they are some of the weaker classes or builds. Or can only use weaker companions. It will require more resources used for them. Or even tries. And even more as it gets harder. They may not be able to get the reward for the bonus round. Etc.

This is an event for everyone, one of only a few appointment events per year, and to be able to do it, to get its rewards, is most crucial for the have-nots. To get those tokens for Mythic companions (bolster, companion powers), to level up companions and mounts. Especially since they can´t get help from higher-ups in this solo arena fight.

So I don´t think it´s too weak. If you feel it´s no challenge to you, there´s plenty of content in this game that is.

I don´t consider running in circles to survive some timer fun. Neither with nor without popping health potions. I also don´t afk these rounds - I just kill as quickly as possible (bonus refinement). I also don´t care about the posing here with daily details of how easy it was for you fighting with your hands tied behind your back.
