We're looking into the difficulty of the Tales of Old: The Dread Vault event, but we haven't been able to lock down changes that we can safely get live today. The event will continue running through the weekend as-is, and we hope to do the following next week:

    • Extend the "Tales of Old: The Dread Vault" event by one week, ending September 12 instead of September 5.
    • To accommodate that, reschedule Coins of Waukeen to September 19-23, delayed from September 5-9.
    • Test how it feels when we raise the maximum item level of the event, and see whether we need to make any additional changes from there.
Thank you for making us aware of this issue and for giving us the information needed to investigate.
This is the effect of taking away Recovery and instituting interminable cooldowns. Dread Vault was built at a time when players could muster lots of CC by chasing recovery. A CC-intensive dungeon hasn't been in the game since Mod 6, and it seems that no one was prepared for the ramifications. DV was never doable without lots of CC -- ever. If you want players to be able to run this, you can't hamstring our CC abilities to this degree. You sure as hell can't do it and expect players who weren't around before 4.7.2015 to know what to do. It's a very different kind of dungeon that requires a very different kind of build and playstyle.

This is just stupid. DV was always a very difficult dungeon and it takes time for players unfamiliar with it to learn how to deal with it -- way more time that Tales of Old allows. If you want people to play it then you have to give them the time and tools needed to make that possible. Otherwise it's just an exercise in frustration. Put it in the general queue already.

On some points, I have to agree with hustin1. I've been playing Neverwinter since the open beta and know this dungeon very well. The dungeon can cause frustration if you do not have the optimal group. New players will get into trouble because they do not know the mechanics or the rules. In addition, I have to agree or throw in the idea that you put the dungeons coming from the Tales of Old in the queue after the event, so players have the opportunity to run them and possibly learn the mechanics. Can one call this idea valuable or is it meaningless? Anyway, there has to be a reasonable solution in this case.

    best regards

Personally I never made a serious effort with Tales of Old simply because the event structure means you have a high chance of not getting anything from it. Attempt dungeon, you died, you get nothing. Sure the gear seems... nice... If you can get it...

Please make a general announcement on the boards or at the login screen when the changes are made. This way there is no back forth in PE or channels about if the event is adjusted. "The event will continue running through the weekend as-is, and we hope to do the following next week: Test how it feels when we raise the maximum item level of the event, and see whether we need to make any additional changes from there." is a little vague.

Shall the fix be on server "Drider" too, or on server "Dragon" only?

I've updated the main post with current status. The improvements aren't ready for prime time, so we're not restarting tomorrow, and are hoping to get this live Friday. The event extension should get in tonight.

It'll be on Dragon and Drider both. (We also plan to make sure any difficulty improvements are on our console servers when this runs.)

It seems that no one is considering the completion time of this publication. Finishing x1 already takes 20 to 30 minutes, how long will it take x3? And then an x4 and x5? No one has enough time to spend. It is very tiring and revolting to try to complete the daily cap. It is very different from the first dg of the event, which can be completed in just 10 to 15 min.

It would be best to postpone this event until everything is tested and working. The event has been postponed for another week, but the changes have not yet been implemented. What's the point? When everything is settled, there will be a new extension?

@terramak One member of my guild grind 30 X1 to get the artifact, upgrade it to mythic, then,.... is unable to equip it. Fix it too please
  • darthpotaterdarthpotater Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 1,259 Arc User
So we will have only 1 week to grind the event doing only x3 or x4? The x5 should be doable in good groups please make sure that the run time and completability is like the other events (and that was a hard grind already)

Agree with Hustin above. When I ran it I switched from Warden to a Trapper-ish Hunter focused on CC and we did it at x1 with no tank. Still,I had serious rotation issues.

With start of Coins of Waakeen start, Trinkets of Old are disappearing from inventory and on pickup. Just happened to me

Was just going to make a post about missing Trinkets of Old. Waukeen event itself or event items seem to displace Trinkets of Old.
  • shadows1313shadows1313 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 68 Arc User
Likely they forgot to extend duration on those as well so right now while they do still drop they vanish on pickup cause technically they expired, 1 week of event passed.

Having all of our Trinkets of Old expire was really not cool.
