Lately, i have been wondering what the actual value of the products i buy, and the time i spend grinding, in some cases its easy, you spend real currency and get a weapon, a horse or a companion. Thats ok, cause you can put a value to it and decide before you buy if its worth your money.
Now, I spendt the better parts of the Wonders of Gond event grinding, cause i wanted the forgehammer of gond, i opened 30 of the packs, nothing, thinking to myself that i had to be unlucky. So i kept opening them, refining them and spending time, kept professions going 24/7 to max the number i could make. A long story short, i opened 130-140 of them. No forgehammer, now, if i sold those dohickeys in the AH, i would make aprox 5 mill AD and could have bought myself one. If i had known the droprate was so abysmal, i would have done so. But by not giving me the odds, they pulled me into a state where i invested more time and effort to get a payoff. "surely i have to get one in a 100, why else give us the event?"
I asked about the drop-rates on the event, feeling cheated, this is the answer i got from Cryptic:
"Please note, these items are rare. You are not guaranteed to receive this item no matter how many times you attempt to receive it. The drops are based on luck, which is why you will see some players receive the item after only a few tries, while others farm for these items without success."
Now, this only cost me my time, i did not invest real currency in this, but is the answer the same for the LOXKBOXES and PACKS? If you spend real money to buy a set of keys to open lockboxes, or profession packs to get the forgehammer of gond or other items, and they dont note the drop-rate, you have no idea what value you get for your money, in other words, GAMBLING. Even the lottery are required to tell you the odds, so that you can judge for yourself if the risk is worth taking. Its a big difference if i need to open 50 boxes or 1000 to get what i want, ill gladly pay for the first, but not the last.
I understand they need money to run the game, but then they should make products we want to buy and we know the value of. Buying prducts from wants not needs. How they currently do it is BOTTLENECKING:
-By not beeing able to get certain items outside of pack, like in professions, you need to gamble on packs to get ingredients/tools/craftsmen or buy on AH from someone that did. To get an legendary mount, you need to gamble at the lockboxes, i remind you, not knowing the odds will keep you spending for one more, then another, then in the end, you end up spending even more to get some kind of payoff. Children play this game, i really dont think its right to put this lvl of risk on them. I know the AH is an option, but somebody have to open the lockboxes for there to be some in the AH, so either way, in the end, someone is forced to buy certain items if they want to progress.
BOTTLENECKING:
-Campaigns seem intentionally repetetive and long, to the degree that if you have multiple characters, you need either buy the campaign buyout pack or grind months on end with all your chars. wich few players appreciate.
- Account/character bound, how many times havent you gotten a decent drop that you want to sell in the AH, only to figure out its accountbound or bound to character? thereby reducing the amount of AD you can get by selling.
-Professions, wanna earn AD using professions? well, you might need to open a professions pack first, to have a chance at the ingredient needed, or you have to spend 100k AD for an item that sells for 116k AD, and if you need the ingredient in the AH, that also cost 20k.
- Characters, you can make 36k AD every day on all chars, default its two, then you need to buy more slots if you want to be able to collect more, then you might want to play those chars too? well, then the problems above just potensiate themselves.
- Random skirmishes/dungons: to earn ad, players are forced to spend time in dungeons beneath or above their lvl, wasting time just for ad, this puts ppl off doing them, or they suffer trough it, creating a problem with players disconnecting/leaving straight away, leaving the rest wasting even more time. they may say its to shorten down waiting time, but I think in the end, players wast more time with disconnected players and longer dungeons, than the waiting time. the added time to complete dungeons for AD, plays well in hand for buisness.
This is only a few ways they bottleneck, its a genius buisness move, but not respectful to the player. TONG currently have 4 mill tickets and counting, they dont even want to fix old problems before giving us new content where we can spend our money.
I think its time we players that besides all problems, love this game, love D&D, love roleplaying, get a voice, and i have a suggestion how:
MONEY: They dont respond to old problems as long as the money is trickling in, then the small voices complaining about small things is a matter for the poor gamemasters, which are without power to help us with our issues.
Well, when you want something specific in this game, the best way is to buy it directly from the AH (or then ZEN store).
In case of the Forgehammer of Gond, best time to buy one would be right in the middle of the Winterfestival event, when a lot of players try to sell one... and the same goes for anything else with a random drop chance. Besides, it's way better to go ViP, then to buy those lockbox key packages. Increase your ViP rank and enjoy the benefits of it, while also getting a daily lockbox key.

The gambling bit is interesting. As in the no published odds of "winning" even though you are spending real life money. I would expect at some point that the USA [and other] governments will investigate this kind of hidden gambling, which can lead to addiction JUST as much as Horse Racing or betting on Football etc.
Also don't slot machines in the USA have to give the odds of winning per spin?
... and at what age can a person legally "gamble" in the USA for example?

Lockbox contents are not required for advancement. Sure, they are really nice, but you can get nearly everything needed for advancement without them. You aren't forced to buy them or open them. Yes, it will take you a LOT longer for advancement without any of the contents of lockboxes, but you can advance without them. You can have everything you need, including a legendary mount, without lockboxes. Add to the fact that most of the items inside of lockboxes is unbound, you can just get the stuff off the AH without opening a single one.

For there to be anything from the lockboxes in the AH, someone have had to open them, im not talking about where or what I personally have to do, but players as a group, for there to be a legendary mount in AH, someone has had to open a lockbox. So in the end, someone is forced to open them if there is to be one in the AH. Solution could be to allow them in the zen-market as epics, but then they would loose out on the gambling side of it. Bottom line is: players should be allowed to know the value of the product they buy, and not have to gamble.

Nope, you can get a legendary mount without any lockboxes being opened. Just not very often - you can get the Beholder Tank from the Portobello's event.

There are two in the auction house ATM, so two players in the whole game get to argue who is going to pay 12.mill and who needs to pay 12.9 mill, the rest of us just have to wait for the next portobello event
About Forgehammer of Gond, during Winterfestival Event I've got a Gond after opening 25 packs, my friend opened over 1000 packs and had not gotten one, last year he opened over 700 of these boxes and also did not got one.
If you are unlucky and do not want to play as you described is best to sell everything you drop out of lockbox and other stuff like a lockbox within a lockbox (a profession asset box, will not neccesarily award you lege tool, even if you open 2k of these boxes for example) so to get a x stuff you desire without risk of loss is to buy it right away from the auction house, as you noted. Because you chose to do otherwise you automatically should have accepted that it may not drop for you at all.
Say you assume its an 1:50 chance it drops, that make good enough odds for me personally to grind it. problem is, odds are not mentioned anywhere on anything, so ppl have to assume the droprate, they tend to link reward to effort put into it, but that is not the case, i learned after i was done with the event, that its "luck" wich tells me nothing more, than never to put effort into anything again, im going to stick to doing the stuff i usually do, wich renders the event to an AD-grind.

There aren't any odds. Having chances means having a pattern, which RNG doesn't. And you can get leg mounts during summer event too. You can also grind all the current content and save AD to buy said mounts during summer event, where they go for as low as 8 mil. Yes, it's pricey, but it's a legendary HAMSTER mount, what did you expect?

If the pont of an event is to grind ad, its not much of an event is it? a game centered around doing meanial tasks for an currency instead of beeing rewarded for doing the dungeons and events, is not a player-experience based game.

this is not true in order to get the masterwork 2 profession done you must have a mythic forgehammer of gond to complete the last quest as i have epic on everything else i still have No chance with out that item so to get the hammer you someone must have open a lockbox somewhere

Does it have to be a mythic level Forgehammer of Gond to complete the masterwork 2nd level? Are you sure that is the only way? Seems like a heavy requirement for the middle level.

Re-read what I said. Grind CURRENT CONTENT to save AD to buy mount DURING the event because they're cheaper then.

Nope. I got my forgehammer from the Challenge of the Gods event, not from a lockbox. You can also get one from the Wonders of Gond event or the Winter Festival. If you are trying to get a forgehammer from a lockbox, you are doing something wrong.

That's not the point of the event. The point of the event is to try to get the mount during the event, but farm AD before the events on the off chance that you aren't lucky enough to get the mount.

Relying on events for mounts and rare drops is a gamble without odds, as stated with "randomly generated" or "luck" like the answer i got on the original post. If it drops so rarly, that i might risk doing all the events of the year and not get the top price, and the same next year, whats the incentive for me to partisipate? like in my case, if i sold the dohickeys i made, i could have bought out the forgehammer from AH, not knowing the odds and believing the payout had to be greater than selling the dohickeys, made me waste time, effort and AD. If i had know the odds, i would have an 100% chance of getting it during the event, by selling the ingredients instead. It stated nowhere that the drops are based on luck.
And when it comes to farming for AD, legendary mounts cost 11mill aprox, if you have two chars, and lets say you save all the AD you can refine every day, that 72k pr day. 11mill/72k=152 days farming, now you can say you will get other drops as well, but you also have to rank up you gear, so i used the only known factor, as all others are based on luck.

That is a nice list of what i should have done I just didnt know about the random drop chance, i thought it was like a 1/100 chance, im very much wiser for it, but i just wish ive known the slim odds before i started the grind. I do have vip, so its not about the AD or how to get the AD. Its about expectations of an event, the value of doing the event as its intended. And i truly feel that a game based on D&D should give you a decent chance at getting what you need in dungeons, from dragons and not from an auctionhouse ty for the winter-event tip!

For players with "unlucky" accounts, players that are still waiting for their first +5 ring for example, The purpose of the event is to wait for the undercutting to drop the price low enuff to make a purchase seem like a reasonable investment.

I mostly go after items i can get for sure from daily quests with my characters during events, or after some extra AD from selling event stuff, anything else is just a nice bonus.
And the Wonders of Gond event will return again at some point... consider the last event as a dry run for the next one.

If everyone had a legendary mount they wouldn't be all that rare, would they?
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

Nope, you can get a legendary mount without any lockboxes being opened. Just not very often - you can get the Beholder Tank from the Portobello's event.
Yea that is very much true - although they extremely rare but so are they in lockboxes. You can also possibly get a Epic mount from the Summer Event as our guild leader got one.
its about knowing the drop-rate, on boxes, dungeons and events, knowing what to expect.
Don't have expectations. You'll be much happier and surprised with what you do get.

If particular/applicable RNG is giving you a hard time or you would simply want to achieve things in a different manner, "Let others brave RNG and pay them for their efforts and investments".
"Bottlenecks" help preserve the game (some more/less than others). Neverwinter is an MMO, "Campaigns" (adventures) are not supposed completed in very little time (outside of campaign tokens which have a "cost" attached to them).
If a player runs more than one character they dawn the responsibility of managing that character(s), in other words it comes with the territory. Players that run multiple characters were given quite the blessings with account wide dungeon unlocks, campaign tokens, signets of patronage as well as being able to run daily quests repeatedly up to a weekly cap for currency instead of daily to progress (where if you skipped a day or two your progress would suffer), all of which significantly reduces the effort of progressing multiple characters.
"Let us not forget the past for it shapes the future". In earlier times of Neverwinter there weren't the various account/character bound items players see today and there was this wonderful thing called the "Neverwinter Gateway". During that "golden age" a number of players took excessive advantage of the freedoms they had:
- Botting/scripting enchant farming >>> Bound enchantments - Botting/scripting the Neverwinter Gateway (where players could invoke (RAD), manage professions (RAD), etc. >>> Shutdown of the Neverwinter Gateway - Stuffing the mailbox full of items >>> Limited mail space, release of bigger bags that cost Zen. - Specifically running the easiest content for bonus RAD + completion bonus >>> RQ system
(the above is just a partial and "condensed" list of player behavior that helped shape the future of the game)
All professions don't require a FoG and or Legendary tools yet are STILL lucrative.
Are players simply concerned about drop rates or concerned about trying to calculate how much effort they can circumvent and or provide for a desired result?
A lot of players are seemingly more concerned about the rewards rather than the experience of this MMO as a whole (can't see the forest for the trees)(not that it is wrong to do/not do either).
Players themselves can shape how they progress, limiting your own opportunities does NOT negate the various options available. Sticking with 1-2 characters, going ham with lockboxes trying to strike it rich vs saving AD to purchase items directly (applies to UES's as well), bypassing professions, etc. are all conscious decisions and effect progression though often enough some players blame the game for the lack of effort they put into it.

I agree that adult ppl, planning well and being patient, can progress quite ok, but as they stated themselves, you might risk never getting an item, no matter your effort. Now, this game is open for children, they might not have the patience to wait 6 months for an event and most likely not get an legendary mount any way. So they buy keys to open boxes.Right now they are working towards classify this way of getting income gambling in Europe, Neverwinter could have circumvented this by making money off items/packs/skins, where ppl know what they get for their dollar, rather than gambling for "luck" .
Comments
In case of the Forgehammer of Gond, best time to buy one would be right in the middle of the Winterfestival event, when a lot of players try to sell one... and the same goes for anything else with a random drop chance.
Besides, it's way better to go ViP, then to buy those lockbox key packages. Increase your ViP rank and enjoy the benefits of it, while also getting a daily lockbox key.
About zone chat, one or two real GMs keeping an eye on it during "primetime" for a few hours per week, and silencing trolls directly for a few days, might do the trick.
Also don't slot machines in the USA have to give the odds of winning per spin?

So in the end, someone is forced to open them if there is to be one in the AH. Solution could be to allow them in the zen-market as epics, but then they would loose out on the gambling side of it. Bottom line is: players should be allowed to know the value of the product they buy, and not have to gamble.

And when it comes to farming for AD, legendary mounts cost 11mill aprox, if you have two chars, and lets say you save all the AD you can refine every day, that 72k pr day. 11mill/72k=152 days farming, now you can say you will get other drops as well, but you also have to rank up you gear, so i used the only known factor, as all others are based on luck.
feel that a game based on D&D should give you a decent chance at getting what you need in dungeons, from dragons and not from an auctionhouse ty for the winter-event tip!
For players with "unlucky" accounts, players that are still waiting for their first +5 ring for example, The purpose of the event is to wait for the undercutting to drop the price low enuff to make a purchase seem like a reasonable investment.
And the Wonders of Gond event will return again at some point... consider the last event as a dry run for the next one.
"Bottlenecks" help preserve the game (some more/less than others). Neverwinter is an MMO, "Campaigns" (adventures) are not supposed completed in very little time (outside of campaign tokens which have a "cost" attached to them).
