Hopes for a new class

akoran#4212 akoran Member Posts: 36 Arc User
Cryptic has been promising a new class for quite some time now. Yet still nothing, will it be mod 10? 11? 20? who knows for sure.

When (or if) they eventually do add one, any ideas/hopes for what it will be?
I read a bit on the DnD lore and classes, and Monk sounds like a good one to add no? A martial artist that specializes in unarmed combat (will probably be armed though unless they add mainhand and offhand gloves for the class). Maybe nun-chucks or a staff would be a cool weapon for the monk?
Feat wise, you could spec to the dps path of the martial artist or go support for boosting your team's stats (using your ki or whatever).

Armour wise, it seems that monks usually are inconvenienced by armour and lose AC, so i think a cool way around that would be armwraps (like bandages around their forearms), a headband and footwraps as well.

I am no expert in DnD, so there will be things that can be included that i have not mentioned, if you have any ideas about possible classes or anything about monks, be sure to let me know :)

Akoran.

Forgot to mention a robe as body armour :p something that doesn't cover the whole upper body, mostly the shoulders and sides

There will not be a new class for mod 10. There, most likely, will not be one for mod 11. And if we get a new class, eventually, I can promise you it will not be monk.

Please no new classes, all they will do is make it OP asf for few months and then boom nerf status.

There are polls from time to time where we could vote for the next class we want to have implemented (altough nothing is planned for the next mod(s) for sure).
I think druid and bard were more famous than the monk.

Beside that, a monk with its east-asian fight style destroys the lore - my opinion.

Yea, the OP lost me with nun-chucks and bandages for arm wraps. Lets please not turn this into Naruto online. I like that this is a western fantasy setting.

Believe it or not, D&D does have an Eastern-themed land in its lore. I just don't think WotC is going to let it fly in the Forgotten Realms setting.

3 other classes were the most voted the players wanted.
    druids, bards, and monks.

we are all aware of devs' post about new classes are on hold until they finished balanced all those existing classes we played.
the ideas are still open for suggessions in new class topic.

to play druids, you get one of 3 templates.
Guardian of Circles (weather maniplation), Shapeshifter, and Summoner

to play monks, one of 3 templates.
shaolin master (unarm combat), night warrior (ninja with cestus/katar/butterfly daggers, most of daul weild), and Monkey Lord (with bo stick/staffs).
they can get prestige skill, dragon disciple.

to play bards, one of 3 templates.
Sword Singer (buff group and agility), Shadow Watcher (thief ability, fear song vs enemies), and Harper/Lute Master (mini jack of trades, morale buff/debuff).

Kara-Tur is in the Forgotten Realms setting.

They still haven't given us back our lost dungeons yet. New classes is asking too much of the current skeleton crew.

Given that we now have multiples of every type except controller I'd bet the druid is the next class. They also said long ago that the ranger and druid were highly requested classes.

Cryptic has been promising a new class for quite some time now.

"Coming soon" is a permanent part of the character creation UI. It doesn't mean anything in terms of time frames.

Kara Tur IS in the FR lore setting. It's always been part of the forgotten realms even as far back as 2e when it was introduced.

Monk, eastern and western, has been a class in standard D&D since 2e at least as well (maybe even AD&D from a supplement). It's a standard class in 5e, allowing for both eastern and western monks.

My feeling is that the next class in NW will be a Druid, just based on the fact that a lot of the mechanics needed for that class already exist in game and Cryptic is a ninja master at recycling features.

The Bard is another class that is likely for much the same reason, but if I was betting, I'd bet Druid.

That said - I'd be more likely to enjoy a monk - but I imagine it would be fairly disappointing since in all likelihood it would be a recycle of TR just as OP was basically a recycle of GF at the core.

There is no business logic in introducing new class right now.
Next patch will fix 2 other classes in way to make them more desirable by players. Then we will have 3-6 months time when players will spend money to improve their chars. And only after that, it is possible to introduce new class.

Monks have always been in D&D since I can remember as have Druids. I think there is room for both classes in this game. I too would like to see the Monk class make an show in the game as I like their fighting style and looks/lore.

In 4thED they wore robes and gloves or used staffs, kama and many more. Would be great if they had the ability to skill up as either a staff, unarmed or using a Tia Sword or dual kama. They could also have talents that either heal as they do damage and take damage in a AOE around them or protect others with a chi aura.

Warlock and Monk are the two classes I like to play as in D&D games

I would like to see artificers in this game. They're basically magic users that bring out the innate magic in objects. They're usually a support class and do things like buff and ally's (or their own) weapon or armor. (Among other things.)

I was referring to D&D artificers. I don't know what these "animators" are that you speak of.

I should note that my first comment is an oversimplification.

Why have a new class, when there is no end game? We should have 10 or 15 Tier 3 dungeons by now. A little bird told me that dungeons will be a priority after Mod 10.

I hope they balance the current classes and content (and PVP) before thy give another class. New Classes ALWAYS screw up the balance. I think this group of Devs have enough intelligence to do that before they launch another one into the mix. And that makes me happy. :D.

I WOULD love to experience the new class and level and all that.. but I would prefer to have a balanced game instead.

as for class, monk, druid or bard are the most logical choices.
Last was a melee type I think so that would make me think
druid or bard >slightly< more likely.

    Yup!

Probably the main reason why I want artificers is because it was the class I used the one time I played D&D. I ended up being the mvp for the very short* game because all the other players chose non-ranged characters, and the DM was really brutal and made most of the encounters long range fights. (This basically turned the game into "the artificer and his meat shields".)

*Short for D&D games, only two sessions.

Honestly, I never really got to explore the whole class, but it did seem interesting. I think it would be a great addition to Neverwinter.

Artificers are particular to Stormreach, as are warforges.
    I don't see them in sword coast...ever.

There are particulars to the various game campaigns , Artificers and warforges
have not suffered the spell plague, in that world, the Gods have not died.
If the spell plague had happened, the war forges, by their nature would
all have died..spectacularly. and Artificers would have become nearly powerless.

Then there is Dragon Lance where everyone 'forgot' who the real Gods were.

Sometime it is best to keep Campaigns separate...but that is me.
