Alpha testing something new

jfrostnwjfrostnw Member Posts: 13 Arc User
A friend of mine got an email inviting him to participate in Alpha testing for the next expansion. No info about said expansion, just an invitation to participate. Anyone else, or perhaps an idea in what it will be?

I think they select randomly. I found the email hiding in gmail's promotions folder.

Anyway, an expansion is due per their usual publishing schedule. Anyone opting to participate in alpha testing will be bound by NDA to not tell people about the new content.

a secret alpha testing a new module? I have never heard about something like this before, has it happened before for past modules?
Well at least we know there is a new module coming, although the alpha testing hasn't even begun yet... I wonder how long will it take for them to release some info about it.
didn't the emil mention when would that alpha test begin?

They did testing that was by invitation for some PvP stuff like SH Siege. Like Fight Club, so you can't talk about it. :p

    (I wasn't even in that.)

The email only talked about information sharing so far. They'll be turning on a special forum for discussing the testing.

If I had to guess, there'll be a few weeks of closed testing to allow time to collect information, followed by an official module announcement and public preview build, and if running true to form, those go up about a month or so before they're supposed to launch. So... my money is on a late March release.

    That's all just edumacated guesswork.

late march is a lot if we consider last module was mid november though.

I'm being generous with the timelines because I'm hoping they won't rush something out the door. We've had a few modules that were on a dictated tie-in timeline, and it would be nice if they were able to slow down a bit in order to put out something better.

maybe Wotc decided that it would be better for them to give Cryptic some more time to deliver a better module? we can always hope so, but I've learned to avoid optimism in here...

As long as they actually fix the bugs found prior to releasing; this is a good thing. Hopefully the past doesnt repeat itself here.

I heard there was something like this before SH Siege. (or other module?)
They ignored most feedback, and also preview open testing feedback later, so I wouldn't be really excited about this.
My story is truly a grand tale! Of course, any story about me is going to be grand simply by virtue of the main character.

I was invited to the siege testing.. but never got in do to thier bugs.. I think I gave up but they did get it going on a later date.

I wasnt invited to this one.. I think its just random users, or maybe certain random users that fit certain keys of playing time or something.

Yes, they have tested module(s) in the past (besides the PvP SH one). I am speculating it must be one with substance since it is requiring testing.

Yes, I got one of those nondescript e-mails myself two days ago. No info about getting in though which is confusing. Supposed to be a special forum set up for Alpha Testers today so I'll be checking later.

They might have sent the details regarding what's being tested but I can neither confirm nor deny any details without the permission of the Moderators. But... It's about PvE and not PvP.

If there was an Alpha test it would certainly have an NDA.

I have NEVER received an email from Cryptic, about ANYTHING.. not promos, not secret invites, not even spam.

The only thing I ever get is the every-other-day "Browser code" thing.

I was invited to the PVP stronghold testing alpha last time, one of the rules of participation was to stay quiet or they'd remove you.

I'm curious, but if it's the same rule in place, can't blame people for not sharing :P
