  • Yesterday I was able to log in the first time I after starting or restarting the client, but then when I changed characters I got an error and couldn't log in the second character. Exiting the game and restarting the launcher, so I just suffered without complaint. Today I'm unable to connect at all; I'm getting the the…
  • PW does an extended maintenance on the network and servers for all their games (including STO and NW) every month or two, usually on Wednesdays. They probably install any necessary OS and security updates on the servers and network hardware, do database compaction, managing the transaction logs and performing integrity…
  • HUGE characters to cosmic fights make it harder for other players to see what's going on. For example, in the dino fight I want certain of my ranged characters to be at maximum range, and there's basically just one place to stand. If someone parks a HUGE character in the way it's hard to see past them to the dino to catch…
  • A freeform slot should be priced to encourage impulse purchases. My threshold for impulse purchases is about $15, which you can easily justify to yourself by noting that it's the cost of a month's subscription. I would never have bought a $50 freeform slot, and won't spend $60 on three slots. That's because, realistically…
  • When I try to resolve the new alert with the Alerts Coordinator after completion I get the following messages: Unable to resolve mission "Alerts: Save the Earth!". Inventory full. My inventory is not full, so I assume that I somehow have an item that I can only have one of, but I have no extra items that would appear to…
  • I run CO on two computers: a Windows 7 machine with an nVidia card and a Windows 10 machine with the stock (dumb) Intel graphics. The game works fine on the nVidia/Windows 7 machine, but GameClient.exe hangs on the Windows 10/Intel machine. According to Windows, I'm running the most current Intel graphics driver. There is…
  • I would guess that skipping cutscenes in alerts is problematic because they're being displayed to four other players. The action couldn't start until everyone had escaped the cutscene, and there might not be code in the server to ensure that everything syncs up in this case. I found that turning the voice volume down to…
  • This is appreciated, but would be much nicer if the UI remembered the size and position when you close and reopen the team-up window. A semi-transparent background would also be good.
  • There are four basic kinds of diseases: acute infections, chronic infections, acute systemic diseases that kill you quickly, and chronic systemic diseases that degrade your health over a long period of time. Cancer is often an acute disease that will you kill you (relatively) quickly if untreated, while diabetes and…
  • A very significant problem is the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria, due in large part to farmers feeding animals antibiotics to make them fatten faster, and doctors prescribing antibiotics to people with colds that are actually viral infections. Drug companies aren't investing any serious money in new…
  • Yes, at level 34 I was able to speak directly to Juryrig in the Mods & Fusion building in Millennium City and get the Tourists of ... Doom mission.
  • Have you tried going to Juryrig directly? Many of the contacts have an an introductory mission from another contact will speak to you directly. I'm one level short of being able to do the mission, so I'll check that as soon as I get there.
  • You essentially want to exercise complete control over the team in the alert, and there's already a way to accomplish every single thing you want to do: form your own team of five and queue for the alert. Given this eminently simple work-around, these suggestions should not warrant the attention of the devs. Because no…
  • Like costume pieces and travel powers you buy with questionite, my expectation was that if you buy an aura it would be available to all characters on the account. I bought an aura with questionite and it is available only on the character that bought it. Is this intended, or is something not working quite right yet?
  • You are completely correct -- Dodge in CO is simply randomly firing damage reduction. The reason for this design decision, I believe, is that the original devs felt that they were "fixing" one of the biggest complaints players had about City of Heroes: missing. Players thought that superheroes should never miss. In CoH,…
  • I was in a an Ao'qephoth Grab playing a character with Skarn's Bane, and it was hard because his target wasn't blocking. That's really the key. We'd get him down to a quarter of hit points and then he'd heal all the way up again. Eventually we got him, but it took three times longer than it should have. Remember, kids:…
  • I agree: it doesn't make sense to segregate alerts by level, that's the point of sidekicking, and now that level gating is in effect characters should have enough powers to be effective when sidekicked. Also, what's the status of sidekicking everyone to level 40 in alerts instead of 30? Whenever I've tried to check this…
  • I don't really mind that they're changing up the way alerts work. I play alerts ostensibly to earn questionite, but it's actually to play with other people. I particularly like playing the more involved alerts, like Red Winter or the Pyramid Burst alerts. I would like to run regular missions on teams, but unfortunately…
  • I'm just guessing here, but I think the guy thought the OP was ripping off the sheriff in Walking Dead, whose name is Rick Grimes. This is the problem with calling out people for making character clones. Yeah, it's obvious when someone makes a green hulk clone, or a spider man or a bat man. But when you start ripping a…
  • Family heirlooms are handed down from one generation to the next. The name itself implies that it's a special case with the bind to account property. Very few items are bound to the account. From Cryptic's point of view, I would imagine it's a bad deal because it reduces the amount of effort required to level characters…

  • There's a problem with the Nemesis bank Grab alert: most of the time I've tried do it, it fails because you're required to defeat X bad guys in the street, but there aren't that many bad guys around.
  • The debuffs in CoH wound up being overpowered because they were pretty common, debuffed by significant amounts (20-40 percent was not uncommon) and they stacked. If you had the right powersets on the team (rad, dark, time, etc.), the mobs were so slowed that they couldn't get off more than two attacks before they were…
  • I finished the race with a rank 1 jetpack. I had absolutely no time to spare, but I finished it.
  • This is not true in all cases. There are some villains in the alerts that have little to no KB resistance, and it's sheer hell when you come across them when someone who doesn't know how to play KB is on the alert. It only gets worse when they insist on using their KB attacks over and over again, making it impossible for…
  • The basic conceit of the game is that your attacks cannot hurt you or your allies, so there's no logical reason why there should be a minimum range for any attack. After all, AoE melee attacks don't hurt your buddy fighting next to you, so why should a grenade? And with the OP's suggestion an RPG fired from 50 feet would…
  • The Nemesis Smash Alerts are probably the most popular ones. There are usually 20 to 40 people in the queue and they stick around for hours on weekends. The player-made Nemeses are far better and more varied than the default ones that are used for players that don't have a Nemesis defined.
  • I did that mission with a friend. I got disgusted with the incessant mob spawning and gave up, exited and abandoned the mission in a huff. Meanwhile, my friend stayed in, stopped fighting and just blocked. And succeeded. I haven't tried it again, but apparently all you really need to do is waste time until the demon gets…
  • Trailturtle, could you publish the odds for each of the possible rewards? Thanks.
  • They just released the Lemurian invasion arc, which included a couple of trivial outdoor missions, a medium-sized indoor mission and a big alert-style mission. Putting that together required a couple of artists, a couple of writers, 2-4 programmers for the server and client end of things, a sound guy, some voice actors, a…
  • I have a bestial regen character, and it tanks Smash and Grab alerts without difficulty. I have 121 defense, 39 Dodge and 58 avoidance. I have Devour Essence and Resurgence for heals, and use DE frequently but Resurgence very rarely. I got the Purple UNITY defense upgrade that gives base Avoidance and slotted a Dodge mod.…
  • This is perhaps the most confusing and confused aspect of this game. Having three, four or five different versions of the same zone makes a complete hash of teaming. I did level 22 VB solo, and when a friend got the mission he shared it with me, it appeared in my mission list but when I actually tried to go there via the…
  • There are several dark areas, and areas with weather. Canada, in particular, has snow and mist, and several areas have a very dark atmosphere. Monster Island has a similar range of lighting and it rains occasionally. Millennium City appears to be in California, so it's not surprising it doesn't rain a whole lot there.…
  • The first time I did this alert with my heavy weapon character I stood still the entire time, moving only to stay close the Hi Pan. It just happened that I never got hit by the bad dot or the breath (I stayed away from the dots even though I didn't know they actually did anything, I figured they must be bad because I come…
  • I basically never enter alerts before my character is 17, and only then if I provide enough DPS and have enough tools to survive for a decent amount of time if I get aggro. While it's true you can complete the Smash if you've got 7s on the team, that's only so if you've got one or two players who can both dish out DPS and…
  • Now that I try to launch Star Trek I see that it has the same problem. What's worse is that the STO website appears to be hosed; at least we can still get on the CO forums and whine :).
  • Yep, I'm also stuck at the tiny dialog "Trying to update the launcher" dialog instead of getting the normal updater window.
  • Databases require regular maintenance to make sure they run efficiently. Everything about our characters is stored in a database, and as we do things database objects are constantly being added and deleted. I don't know the details of the CO database, but in general database indexes need to be rebuilt regularly to make…
  • What are the probabilities for each of the drops when you open a lockbox? This is something that should be explicitly indicated up front, just like the odds of winning when you buy a lottery ticket.
  • The problem is that people expect content to be free, and won't pay for it. It's sort of like content on the Internet -- sites that charge for content (like news) are having a very rough go of it. For example, people will pay for newspapers and magazines, but they won't pay for that same information on a website. But…
  • If the Christmas event is anything like Halloween, drops will include limited-use become devices. Permanent versions of those were on sale for real money. If so, Cryptic will want to limit the duration of the event. The event and its drops are basically advertising for stuff you pay for. I agree that it stinks for…
  • I've been trying for months to get onto PTS, but whenever I try I just get a window that says "Connecting to account server..." It eventually gives up, saying "Connection to the account server timed out," and displays the login dialog. Is PTS down a most of the time, or is there something else I need to do other than…
  • As I understand it they're using the same engine for CO, STO and NWO. That means they can't afford to let it get into disrepair, otherwise it'll jeopardize their profit centers as well as CO. Is it still true that all three games' engine are still on the same code base, or have they split off?
  • Yes, I'd be willing pay money up front to get the Foundry for CoH. Given my experience with how a similar feature worked in CoH, it should work the way the video for Neverwinter described the Foundry working there: to run them you talk to special contacts in the real world, you build the lair out of building blocks, you…
  • I come from City of Heroes, where tanks are historically expected to do exactly what you're doing: attracting aggro, and once you've done that, a blaster comes along and nukes them. Any mobs the tank defeats are just gravy. Since this game is essentially CoH v. 2, it sounds like it's working as intended. The designers have…
  • I steadfastly refuse to gamble, so I won't be buying any keys to open lockboxes. If I'm going to spend the equivalent of real money I want to get exactly what I want, and not get suckered into spending three times what something is worth to me. It's reasonable to gate things like vehicles behind a paywall, since so much of…
  • Thanks for your response. I realized I could find that information through looking at the stats window, equipment popups and experimentation, but I was wondering if there was a writeup that explained how everything works because of the tabular format you displayed those numbers in. I take it that you arrived at that…
  • Could you tell me where the calculations for stats like Dodge and Avoidance are documented? Also, is there some way to display actual values of stats like Crowd Control Resistance and Strength in game? City of Heroes has a window that displays nearly all the active values in the game, and I was wondering if there was…
  • As a recent transfer from CoH who's been watching CO from a distance, it was obvious that CO would become a content orphan when Cryptic got the Star Trek license. I don't know the subscriber numbers, but on the face of it you'd think that STO would have far more subscribers than CO does, and would therefore get more…
  • Am I missing something? This app is great for selecting powers, but it doesn't seem to calculate any of the stats. Is there some reason why this is omitted? I'd like to know how many hit points my character has, for example, but I don't know what the calculation is. I know that super stats contribute more than regular…
