Seriously.
I got a friend who is raging at the sheer ignorance displayed by whoever is in charge of CO nowadays. He used to be a subscriber and took a break, only to come back and find out he bloody well can't subscribe.
And, being a veteran, is of course unwilling to make a new account to play gimped silver chars when he has a roster of gold chars he can't access.
And he can't access because ever since CO switched websites time and time again, this time being on ARC for the time being, he can't pay since he doesn't own a credit card.
I will give you all two simple truths:
ONE - Europe is the biggest market for gaming, money-wise.
TWO - Apparently it is not common knowledge that, unlike americans, most europeans don't own and don't WANT to own a credit card.
So why is it that you thought it was a good idea to cut out payment options to let us pay with something that isn't a credit card?
I can remember buying ****tons of Cryptic-Points and my Lifetime Sub over Sofort-Banking a few years back. But I guess you don't need money, right?
That's why you are shoving lockbox after lockbox down our throat... you know, the ones we need to pay you to open to recieve random stuff. Right...
As for subscriptions...I've just checked and I can't log into manage my subscriptions for some reason...but based on what you've said, your friend can but the debit card option isn't available?
I've just checked on the subs page and it's only offering Credit Card or Paypal as an option. A debit card might work - it could be ambiguously worded - but I'm not trying! Not sure about the stuff about credit cards in Europe - in the UK we're issued with one at birth - but signing up to this game and making purchases is a mightily tedious process compared to other games, especially mobile ones.

As I recall this is the problem. It says credit card but accepted my Visa debit card and I have had no problem with it.
i'm in germany, my PayPal wallet doesn't work (referring to PP, Cryptic wants a certain amount in this wallet to be accepted, but i cannot afford this amout atm), contact to Cryptic was like "we'll take a look at your problem" and not much of a response since.
I still wish i could sub, but to me it seems as if Cryptic doesn't want people to subscribe ... they can make more money by selling FF-slots, char-slots, ... oh ... and KEYS! of course. Else you can't open the precious *cough* lockboxes.

As long as your wallet has the right amount with currency exchange rate considered then you should be able to make the transaction.
Also it helps if you didn't resort to libel and slander just because you're having difficulties with your PayPal account.
My point was that unless you have a CC you can get ready to jump through some hoops to get a subscription. Which is a terrible way to conduct business if you want to make money. The point is to make it EASY to the customer to pay you, not harder.
Back when the old Cryptic CO page was up it was reliable and easy enough.
Then came the PWE where it went a bit, tiny bit, downhill.
And now we have ARC. Try googling subscription/gold membership/lifetime for Champions. Half the pages get redirected to the ARC page, but not the one you want, just the CO home one.
My friend dislikes Paypal for his own reasons, and that basically leaves him out without a credit card.
I dunno if you -can- even go GOLD with the STEAM wallet. I'll point it out to him.
Anyways, it is just a suggestion to give us more option to pay.
After all, it's clear they want our money, they just are quite ham-handed in trying to get it.
Addendum:
To be clear on the "jumping through hoops" part...
If you don't have a CC you can try to get a gametime card (good luck finding an online store that sells digital GTCs for a niche game like CO, AND hasn't pulled them from their list of products they sell... like Amazon did), hope it is a trustworthy site and possibly wait hours-days-weeks for that sweet juicy email with the key. And even then the page is NOT CLEAR on the fact that the PWE cards give you gold status game time, or just ZEN, which can be farmed anyways.
If you go over to paypal, you need to send your money to paypal in a more complex way that you would with Direct Debit Pay. And then you have to wait 3-5 work days until the money is on your paypal account to be used. Which is a somewhat roundabout way of doing things.
Then there is the STEAM wallet, which should in theory be easy-peasy, but I've yet to get confirmation that you can actually activate GOLD Status with it, and not just buy ZEN.
Sorry Cryptic, PWE and ARC. We live in 2015 and not 1999. Direct Debit is a standard that is used worldwide and quite frankly it should be in ANY company's repertoire when it comes to dealing with digital content.
And the really sad part is, you had it, and just dumped it for whatever reasons.
My guess is either laziness or the sheer chaos of changing publisher over and over again. My money is on the latter.

Btw, that link is for charging Zen. Not for Gold or Lifetime. Which is weird since Skrill is a Direct Debit service, so why in heavens name do we get to use it for ZEN purchases but not subscriptions. I'm scratching my head.

One off sale vs a recurring sale (subs). Some payment providers view recurring sales as risky business; you know some people can call up their banks and dispute the charge to the account/no money in account at time of billing - payment providers pay a fee to the companies that facilitate direct debit. It took a while before even Paypal started support recurring sales.
I don't like Sigs, but I'll leave this here anyway. At least I'm not to trying to hypnotise you with moving things!

Credit Card is usually a term that covers any sort of bank card, whether it's credit or debit or a prepaid card. If your friend has any kind of bank-issued card, it most likely falls under this umbrella term, and he should be able to use it to subscribe.

Quoted for truth. I clicked on Credit Card and entered my Visa Debit Card details. It worked no problem.

But Credit/Debit Cards issued by some EU banks are not being picked up under the credit card option - known issue with some EU Credit/Debit cards... french cards for example.

if You Have Trouble You Might Try Contacting Pwe Support, Or Maaaybe Cryptic Support. I Am Not Sure How Helpful They Could Be But It'd Be A Place To Start. I Know You Can Use The Steam Wallet Though, It's How I Used Pay For Everything In Co. But I Don't Know If Thats Usable For Subscribing To Gold In Co(unless Something Changed Very Recently That I Somehow Missed).
I'd Suggest Time Cards Or Something But That'd Only Give You Game Time, And I Am Not So Sure If That Works.

Sorry, but the only cards we get from our bank on default are cards for ATMs. And a card with the IBAN.
And he, as well as myself, dislike Credit Cards simply because they are a surefire way to get into debts. I myself used to have a CC, "only for WoW" I've told myself. Yeah, took some time to iron out that minus on my bank account.
Our point is just that we HAD payment options for CO that are simply not there anymore, and this is just plain silly.

So how is that proof of Cryptic deliberately screwing with you and not wanting subscription money?
