The monthly rewards for gold members and lifetime subs are less than stellar and should be much more appealing items to help encourage people to subscribe.
Every item has been disappointing (in my opinion) so far, with the stovepipe hat being the worst yet.
Make items that people really, really, want and that are awesome and more people will want to subscribe.
If I wasn't already a lifetime subscriber there is NOTHING on the monthly styles that would make me want to sub, and that is should be the point: create GREAT items that entice people to subscribe and stay subscribed, not give basic, easily rendered, monthly items that some people think are ok.
Addendum: Having been informed that the goggles speedster goggles lesnes can be made glass makes them a really good monthly item and the raw muscle was pretty good but would have been better much better as a skin option imo.
I've heard a lot of positive feedback from the pieces....
I have not heard any positive feedback and they could give MUCH better items than that for monthly subs. The better the item the more people will want to sub. A stovepipe hat and antlers are sub-par imo.
Give members something AWESOME each month and watch the subs go up.

I agree. The first month - the speedster goggles were fantastic and I use them a lot. One of the best in the game.
Then the Liberty Crown thingy...ok. Then a Pilgrim hat, Hockey Stick both rather meh.
This latest thought, the Stovepipe hat and beard, I was like "don't we already have those?"
I thought the Speedster goggles were good (Great would be if there were an option to make the lenses either glass, opaque, or solid) but I thought the monthly items were going to get better and not worse.
I completely agree with your assessments of the consequent monthly items .
I cannot see a multitude of people saying "YES! I HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO GET THAT STOVETOP PIPE HAT!!!"
It is like they are choosing some of the most lame items when they should be creating "must have" awesome styles for the monthly rewards.
No, we didn't already have those. The "beard" options we had were Machiavellian Goatee or Hobo. And we didn't have a stovepipe hat; we did have a tall bowler, of a design I've never actually seen in the real world, and there's that slouchy top hat associated with the Sovereign Sons, but no stovepipes.
And I plan on using the beard, hat, and Zombie parts to make Undead Abe Lincoln, so there.

As a non subscriber, I have to say that I only found the speedster glasses and antler horns the ones that made me go "Oh my god! I need one of those!". However, I found the stovepipe a great touch.
The headphones were my favorite though. I could imagine a million themes with them.

Yeah those headphone! I saw a guy with different rune auras for the head and it made it look like music was coming from them.
As a Non-Subscriber(which may or not change) I have to say that the costumes are not really that Interesting! I would say that most of them are really "Bald" and Forgettable
I get that most of them are Seasonals and related to America National Holidays
June 2014 - Speedster Goggles I can take use of them actually!
July 2014 - Liberty Crown Meh... it looks kind of Silly
August 2014 - Ninja Mask It's just a Strap of cloth
September 2014 - Emblem HeadphonesI WANT THIS! I NEED THIS! THIS IS SOMETHING NEW WHICH I WANTED! I have 3-4 Music-Themed character and 1 of them is a DJ
October 2014 - Raw Muscles Tights Attack of... Titans?
Novermber 2014 - Pilgrim Hat It's a Hat, it kind looks like one of the hats we currently have
December 2014 - Reindeer Antlers Only if you have a Reindeer character or some kind of monster
January 2015 - Hockey Stick Mighty Ducks?
February 2015 - Abe Lincoln Beard and Stovepipe hat well... not Impressed
So far only 2 Costumes Pieces makes me Eager to go Lifetime

You can. When you select the goggles you get another option to change the material of the lenses.
Ah, i see, thanks. I didn't realize there was a "custom eye accessory" option. Ok, the Speedster Goggles are great now not just good. The rest is bleh.
Oh and you're right then Jon, I thought we had those somewhere or they are unlocks I have that are very similar, but who knows...I'll probably need to make a Diesel Punk character to go with the nice vehicles.
June 2014 - Speedster Goggles - I use them a lot and great with the lens options. July 2014 - Liberty Crown - was a nice touch for the fourth but meh for me...didn't mind though August 2014 - Ninja Mask - I found this one rather useful as masks go September 2014 - Emblem Headphones - forgot these...they are great and I use them October 2014 - Raw Muscles Tights - make for great "Colossus" type characters in metal. I still want to make "The Mighty Meat Shield" as a tank character Novermber 2014 - Pilgrim Hat - I was good with this in case I want a Van Helsing type December 2014 - Reindeer Antlers - limited use so I felt meh January 2015 - Hockey Stick - like the idea...wanted to make a Mighty Duck or Casey Jones type character February 2015 - Abe Lincoln Beard and Stovepipe hat - not super excited, but I'm sure color options and seeing the whole thing (the pics I've seen are cropped) might change my mind
Ah, i see, thanks. I didn't realize there was a "cutom eye accessory" option. Ok, the Speedster Goggles are great now not just good. The rest is bleh.
.
Yeah the option (I missed it too at first) shows up ABOVE the eyewear/goggles option instead of below so its easy to miss on the left "ladder" navigation in the tailor.
Combined with various heads, helms, and face/mouth/side pieces you can have some great effects.

Yes i noticed that it showed above the options after you informed me that you could indeed change the lense material which makes the speedster goggles a great monthly item imo (fantastic would have been all the lemsee options of , say, the holoforce layers).
Also i altered my OP to also include the raw mucsce tights as good monthly items (great would have been to make then an actual new skin option imo since they are hard to match with the head because of the "incongruent" skin/item colors)
There are plenty of reasons other than the monthly gold member rewards to be gold.
And yet the population is very, very, low and many of the remaining populace are not gold subscribers so obviously all of these 'reasons" are not translating into "effective incentives".
Better gold rewards would make subscribing more enticing, especially if these were super-awesome styles that people really, really, wanted.

Cryptic/PWE doesn't care about number of Gold subs, they care about $$$. Super-awesome styles that everyone wants are perfect lockbox bait. Other than that, I strongly doubt that people who don't currently have Gold subscriptions would be much tempted by more costume parts.
As I understand it from staff posts when the gold member bonus items were added - these were costume parts created or suggested by devs for which there was not time or desire to create a full costume set to match the piece in question. And as such they decided that rather than let such pieces go to waste they would tidy them up and release them as bonus items.
The fact that a lot of items seem to be seasonally themed is possibly as much to do with what is on the dev's mind at the time.
These items were never intended to be the draw for subscribing. It was only after player suggestions that they made it so lifetimers could grab the items at any time. Before that it was intended that the items would be available purely for the month they were released and then would no longer be available. This is why they are a BONUS and not a subscriber BENEFIT (until such time as they rewrite the subs reward matrix)
Search back around June last year, I am sure you will find various posts about it.

Then they should actually make items that entice players to subscribe instead of just giving leftover items only. Bonus, benefit. Semantics really, irregardless of what is stated on the subscription perks list.
If you want access to the ones that have gone, go LTS - you get to access the back catalog.

I automatically expected trash costume pieces to make it to the gold vendor. I rather the gems and the really useful pieces become available at any given time that a player wants to get them without going lifetime. Either piece meal in a store or droppable in the game.
If they start making really badass costume pieces for the gold vendor, it needs to be upgraded. Gold members can get them free for the month they subscribed, lifetime can get them any time they want, and a new addition where anyone can pay Zen for any piece no longer available.
