The Foundry: THIS JUST IN!

"Hmmm. Let me ponder that."

This was Jack Emmert's (Cryptic's CEO) answer when asked whether Cryptic would consider opening a Kickstarter to give us The Foundry as long as we can show him there are at least fifty people interested.

WHAT WE NEED:
-A minimum of 50 replies saying nothing but "YES, PLEASE" in this thread.

What we DON'T need
-Naysaying: If you don't care about this initiative or think that anyone contributing is dumb, please refrain from replying at all.
-Resentment and entitlement feelings: This is about negotiation, not about the way you think things should be. No one is asking whether you're already a Gold subscriber or buy from the C-Store.
-Rudeness: This thread is meant to be shown to the CEO. If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say anything.

We're addressing the CEO, and we're addressing executives. The bottom line is money, so let's show them we're willing to put our money where out mouths are.

So...

YES, PLEASE!

I'd be interested, if I wasn't broke as crap.

Either way, I support the idea anyway, because Kickstarter is a brilliant innovation.

...I just recently realized something really disturbing. We're all eating Sodapop3's "humble pie."

The foundry would be nice. I'm certainly not opposed to it having it added. That said, I don't feel it should be a priority over a new zone or content.

The foundry didn't save STO. It has never been a game changer there. You cant use it to level, you cant use it to gain. And while the reasons for this are completely understandable and reasonable. Put simply, that will limit its use.

Folks don't bother with the APs and CS missions simply because the payout isn't worth the time involved. So other then for story sake, or as a one off diversion. There will be little reason or motivation to run foundry missions.

I'm a frustrated GM, because I haven't been able to gather a group of Champions tabletop players since the early '90s, and I've got so many ideas...

    YES , PLEEZ!

What a way to start my posting history on this forum. ^_^ I am a CoH refugee, and I want the Foundry. I have stories to tell, and I miss the AE (with the big ugly warts and problems it had, I STILL miss the AE - and it's not Dec 1st yet).

I haven't played STO, so I don't know how much reward their foundry missions give, but from what I'm getting I'm guessing you mean there's no reward at all for playing foundry missions. That's wrong in so many levels. If anything, the Foundry missions should grant around the same EXP offered by an AP or CS, scaling up or down depending on how many plays there are of the mission, and how difficult or long the mission is. Give players rewards for both making involved missions, and playing through challeninging ones.

Getting on to the reasoning at the bottom of the statement there, the main reason we don't bother with the AP's or CS missions is because they're old. Yeah, they don't give as much reward in experience, but the main reason that's the case is that they're overall much slower, with involved cutscenes and miniature tasks (simon, tower defense) that are boring, because they're never meaningfully different on a second playthrough.

In a sense, you're right that Foundry missions are in fact a one-off diversion. But when there's a ton of different players each making 1 or more missions, then that's a whole lot of one-off diversions that can be played sequentially. Because the player base is (hopefully and theoretically) constantly offering up new missions to play, it shouldn't fall into the same slump that the developer made AP's/CS' did.

    All that said,

Not to take this off topic. But yes, in STO there is no reward at all for foundry missions. The mobs will still give XP for defeating them, but that is it. No xp, no cash, no prize at the end. I'm certain this was done as a way to prevent player abuse.

As a token offer to this problem. STO offers a daily reward similar to alerts where you can do 3 foundry missions to get a fixed daily reward. But all this has done is to create a ton of missions where the goal is to click on a terminal or two to get your daily done as fast as possible.

It is for this reason I have mixed feelings about the foundry. As a player the idea of a whole community being able to tell stories and express themselves with a new set of story telling tools is awesome. As a gamer, I know most of this will simply be ignored as it offers little gains. One only needs to look at White out for proof. Awesome story, mood, and setting....but so woefully underused.

Foundry would fix our overall lack of content by letting players contribute to it.
