Hey gang,
As some of you have noticed, last night we took our first step towards integrating the PWE and Cryptic websites and account servers.
What this means to you:
1) If you have a PWE, you can now log in to the website, forums, or game, using that account.
2) If you choose to do this, you may merge your PWE and Cryptic Accounts into one account.
- When you log into a Cryptic Product with a PWE Account, you will be prompted to either create a new Cryptic Hanlde, or to link your PWE account with an existing Cryptic Account/Handle.
- You will not be able to link multiple Cryptic accounts to your PWE account.
- If you do not already have a Cryptic Account, all you will need to do is select a handle, and we'll take care of the rest.
3) If you DO NOT have a PWE account at this time, and do not want to merge the accounts, you do not have to, at this time.
4) Getting Support:
If you have a Cryptic Account, which is not linked to a PWE Account, you will continue to use Cryptic's Support portal at
http://support.crypticstudios.com/champions_online, or
http://www.champions-online.com/support.
However, if you have a PWE Account, or you have linked your PWE Account to your Cryptic Account, you will use the PWE Support Site at
http://support.perfectworld.com/.
Regardless of which site you use, your support tickets regarding Champions Online will still be answered by the Cryptic Studios Support Team.
If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know.
Thanks,
Stormshade

Its sounds like stuff is changing - yet staying the same.... so yeah, kinda hard to judge if this is desirable not knowing PWE's plans for future website, game and account functionality going forwards.
That's the part that worries me about this change. My handle is already taken in the PWE site and I don't remember my account details from the one time I (briefly) tried PWI years ago, before CO (and might not want to use that account anyways). So I wonder what will happen if/when the time comes when the account merge is no longer optional.
I am glad we have some connection from CO website to PWI website. However, I have to wonder why PWI does not have some link about Cryptic games. I think it would be helpful, it shouldn't be a bit of costs adding a few image/pictures.
Thanks,
Stormshade
"What we've been told is that you don't have to have a PWE account if you don't want one. That being said, Perfect World might change their minds one day, and if they do, I don't want to have to wade through seventeen thousand threads screaming, 'YOU SAID THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!', so here's a couple of conditional phrases just in case."
*falls laughing*
Perfect picture, I think.
Ok .. this makes me nervous :
Attachment not found.
What does that really mean for my LTA or for using the C-Store ? Will that all now work via PWE ?
Logged in... toons are ok ..friend list fine.... mail still there..used the C-store.... all good.
First, the Cryptic system has never let me down. Why switch?
Second, I don't currently play any PWE games so I have no need for an account.
Finally, it's new. There's a high possibility of bugs, glitches, errors, whatever. I'm gonna let some other poor soul help them iron out the system before I even think of giving it a shot.
Now, when bribes become involved, all bets are off. CO is the ONLY reason I have a Steam account...
I'm a sucker for that crap...
Thanks, I'll look into this.
Yes. I actually merged my own account earlier today with no issues. I still have access to the game, and forums, and my Cryptic Point balance remained the same.
Thanks,
Stormshade
P.S. Yes, I have a Cryptic Point Balance, just like you guys do.
Hmmm .. ok. I still think i better wait since CO is also really integrated into the PWE website
Did you use the same @handle you use here, or a different one? Mine's already taken (since waaay before PWE's purchase of Crytpic) so I'm kinda wondering what happens when you have different handles.
Same @handle :P why u think i use nepht no one thinks of that if its nepht its me
Great, I didn't notice it at first. Great move. Hopefully, it will help to promote the game
Ah .. so they also changed that in the last hours, since it wasn't there when i had a look yesterday
where i also thought : its really time they do that
I guess it makes me a racist of some sort, but I have zero trust in PWE, and will be discontinuing my subscription at the moment we're forced to transition to only using PWE accounts.
How out of place do the cryptic games look on that webpage.
Many of PWE's games seems to take place in a fantasy setting. With the exception of Neverwinter, I'd say that Champions Online and Star Trek Online seems very out of place in comparison.
Regardless, I hope that we will see more players now!
Glad they're finally linked.
Always wondered what you Devs were paid in :P
I'm going to give merging a go over my weekend. Post here for how it turns out. Looking forward to checking out some other PW games.
I noticed I can no longer use my account to log to Pidgin. It was the Cryptic one and the new PWE ID doesn't let me connect...
Note: I have no problem accessing the game / PTS. I already filed a ticket which was nicely and promptly dismissed as "We do not support 3rd party software"... Nice, still that XMPP access to the chat IS a feature from the game, soooooo...
Any help you can provide?
Like a new domain name or something? (To replace Crypticspace.com, if need be)
So a couple of quick things:
1) The following Regions will not be able to access Champions once the account merger is fully completed:
So, I'm sorry Aunel, but that region block is permanent. These regions are blocked by PWE due to a large amount of fraud attempts that we see from these areas. That said, we're going to be looking into this a little more, so don't give up all hope.
2)
XMPP access is not supported by Cryptic Studios as it remains in its Beta state.
That said, I've been assured that access to this service will be restored to individuals who have merged their accounts sometime very soon. The guys in charge of it tell me we should see an update within the next couple of weeks. I've asked them to keep me updated, so I'll let you know once functionality has been restored for you.
Thanks,
Stormshade
Will XMPP ever come out of beta? It is a vital tool for a lot of folks as most can connect from work. I know I don't have to justify, you guys know more than we do how much it is used. Would just like to see it out of beta is all.
Also, when I am logged in through the site, and I go to the cryptic store, all of the things I've purchased in the past are purchasable for me again. Example, I bought the geo armor costume set a very long time ago, but it is purchasable for me again on the CO website. So, I could easily duplicate a purchase.
just thought I would mention these two things.
Thanks.
This happens when you haven't logged into the game for awhile. Once you do enter the game and your characters are retrieved the website and website-based c-store should work properly again.
Yes, thanks.
In STO they are character unlocks and are always available. I would assume they are the same in CO. Once STO went F2P any new items purchased were character based and not account.
It depends upon the item. Things that are account-based like travel powers and costumes you can only purchase once. Things that are character-based like consumables and devices can be purchased repeatedly as desired.
I hope so.
What will happen with players from those areas that already have a LTS or have otherwise spent a significant amount on the game prior to this change?
Also, I think there should be a disclaimer somewhere if there is a chance that people from those areas may have their purchases locked out if/when merging Cryptic accounts with PWE is no longer merely optional (don't know if there is one already).
Emm... wonder how many lifers are going to be upset, and if there is any legal recourse for them. (I'm not saying that they should, but I just wonder.)
I also wonder how many instances of "worlds" we'll be losing. 1 or 2.
I don"t think there'll be much they can do: it's a pretty standard clause in MMO EULAs that the service can be stopped at any time, without previous mention and with no prejudice to the provider.
I'm not. While I can't attest for the fraud factor, many of these countries have very strict laws regarding video games and most times it's simply easier to block access than it is to try and work within their rules and regulations.
PWE is the N.A. branch. So it a U.S. company blocking IPs from China.
Forced is a big word.
This account merge makes sense since PWE bought Cryptic Studios, i.e. since May 2011.
But a sticky note announcing more clearly this upcoming account merge would be good.
Could it be the case they are thinking in other publisher(same comglomerate) for Asia.
Anyway, I feel bad for people who got caught into these ip blocks.
Not the first time I've seen such oddities. Megaupload is a Hong Kong-based company... and they block Hong Kong IPs from using their service.
That being said, I'm damn glad I chose not to integrate my account, being in Hong Kong and all that. I just hit 200 days on my lifetime account, so I'm pretty far from getting my money's worth and it would be unpleasant to be banned from the game for no good reason.
This would be my guess.
From what I've seen just passively observing the gaming industry over the past decade, a fair amount of the time what happens is this:
Company A has rights to Game B in Region C. However in Region D Company E has rights, not Company A, so Company A has to block access from Region D so that Company E can force people onto their servers. They do this because Company F has the overall rights to say who gets distribution rights where, and has made an agreement with Company A and Company E that stipulates as much.
Thaaaaaaat said that doesn't in and of itself mean the fraud thing isn't a factor either - it's possible/probable that it's also a consideration and that another company that's more local will be better equipped to deal with that problem.
---
All that said, I'm hardly an expert, this is just what I've gleaned sitting by the wayside < . .> I could be completely off base, and if I am, I am sorry.
At some point, yes, you will need to merge accounts.
You should not be surprised at all that Perfect World Entertainment blocks China as a Region. Especially when Perfect World is owned by a company, with the same name, which happens to provide the precise services we provide, to China. Essentially, Chinese players can still play most of PWE's offerings, as they all are ran by the parent company is China as well.
The US based company is who owns Cryptic, and it's entirely possible that the parent company based in China may at some point pick up Champs to serve it's customers in China.
Thanks,
Stormshade
OK .... Champions? The website or whole game? If the game is blocked, then what will be your plan to return paid fees which include Gold-Sub and C-store points)? If no money is going to be returned, then may I consider the block action as a crime? 'Cause money is paid and uses cannot enjoy the services. You need to announce the new much earilier (6 months eariler....ex: if I just paid 6 months yesterday, and I know I'm going to be block very soon) and let players from those regions have chance to manage money and stop paying.
