I wouldn't say complete removal of restrictions, but robotic legs only have seven hip options despite everything (except the harnesses, and that's more a floating issue than clipping) being completely compatible with it.
So lacking any other options, count me in as well.

I was hit by the oddball restrictions "Mack Truck" this weekend when I tried to create a variant of one my heroines' costumes that would have short skirt and sai. Except for completely unknowable reasons you can't have a sai with a short skirt.
If I remember correctly, a few weeks or months ago I read somewhere in the forums (can't remember coz I rarely ever delve into the forums) that supposedly the only reason they don't just let us do a mish-mash of choices was coz their rendering tech wouldn't be able to handle it. Regardless, I sign up coz I would very much love so to be able to do my very own mish-mashed costume extraordinaires, hehehe.
I'm sure a lot of glaring issues will be resolved when they do a costume editor pass. As long as they make the physical shape editor less restrictive if they touch that part at all.
i'd love a button something like: [] show all items that may have significant clipping issues with present items.
And let me decide whether to use them or not if i have clicked the button, and not annoy me with major clipping problems all over the place if i dont click the button.
So when i really want to try that head or those side-antennae in a bubble-dome helmet or that hair with that head etc i can choose to without being constantly beset with breaking builds at every stage especially when first getting used to making characters.
Seriously... i can't be an undead necromancer because somehow having a skeleton head with a collar is considered to be a clipping issue?
if by that logic, normal heads need to be banned from use with collars because it has skin on it and juts out more than a boney head does, yet it's allowed? why? because there is no clipping issue at ALL.
I want my ability to make an undead necromancer with a collar and skull head it's crucial for one of my concepts, all my costumes are a part of a set
I don't even understand how such an obvious thing got disabled
Can't remember if I signed this yet... In any case, /signed.
I keep coming up with costume piece combinations that would by all means work with no clipping, but can't do them. That and stuff that would clip, but would look awesome doing so.
I mean, it's not like I couldn't go into the costume editor and make a costume RIGHT NOW with tons of clipping on every part of the body, not the good type of clipping either but the horrible looking type that breaks badly on movement. Restricting this stuff really doesn't solve anything.
So uh... A friend of mine, Zerethon, has been doing awesome stuff with clipping.
You know those Roin'Esh sword hands? Well, he discovered, that if you use them with bladed weapons and the right attacks, it gives you the appearance of having scissor hands. Even more awesome, was when he stuck them on an archery character, and it looked like he had some kind of bio-tech crossbow attached to his arm.
Yeah, uh... Why is this bad again? For every one person who might make a clippy horrible looking abomination with the character creator, there's at least one person out there doing something awesome and creative with it and showing everyone the true power of it.

Thats why i think it should be a button-option. So those who wouldn't want it can have minimal-clipping and the rest can be creative!

This is basically what's been suggested time and time again.
In fact, if you go on the PTS right now, you can check out the bugged tailor and get a peek at what that would be like if they did that. Right now, if you hit ESC while you're in the tailor and then reopen the costume editor you can see tons of costume pieces you're normally not able to use together, or in many cases at all.
This also applies to weapon skins as well. Why can't I use the large standard "Axe" or "Alien Organic Axe Style 1" from blades and dual blades with Heavy Weapons? Why can't I use numerous energy pistols and rifles like the "VL-S1 Redeye" or the "A1A 'Eagle' Blaster Rifle" with gadgeteering pistols and rifles?
I can't remember if I ever signed this (or indeed commented at all on this)... We do need the costume bits to be able to be worked together. There's a great deal of customisation in Champs, and it's one of its main draws of the game over other MMOs out there (for example, the main leader of the market as far as I know, World of Warcraft? Based on what I've seen in the early freely accessible parts of the game, EVERYONE LOOKS THE SAME. And the few other customiseable character MMOs, like DC Universe, are pretty buggy and very very laggy to use to the point where many just use the presets.). By having a toggleable "show all items even if they clip" underneath, say, the "show all unlockable items" toggle, we could then create the full range of characters we want.
As it's been said, for every clippy monstrosity (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, one could create a character whose bodly parts are partially out of phase with reality and thus shifts through their other bodily parts in a messy way, or simply a creature of chaos being all chaotic in a predictable way and junk.), there's someone who can make a awesome character out of parts that, yes, might clip a bit, but nowhere near enough to be noticeable unless really closely examined.
So, I'm not really saying anything new with this post.

I'm surprised. Still going to sign again, though. As it is, not everything looks good together. Removing the restrictions won't change that much. I imagine most people would care too much about their characters looking stylish to put on a buggy mess.
100% signed. I really have nothing to add that you haven't already said. If the entire CC was opened up, and all items usable with each other there would be some truly awesome costumes around.
The costume creator in CO is by far the best there is in any game (imo), make it better!
I think it would make a neat piece of stand alone software.
The Sci fi shoulder pads clip slightly through the larger bubble helmets as do some of the retro/sci fi jet packs and they are from the SAME flippin set. If I can pay good money for a set that clips from the devs then what is the issue?
Oh and totally agree with the OP about the SHOCKING amount of sheer ugly. lazy and retina burning costumes I see in game. *shudders* Still IRL you often see people out and about and think to yourself `sheesh , did you even LOOK in the mirror on the way out?` so I guess an MMO is no different. Talk about art imitating life...
I didn't read through the whole thread, the idea became clear enough from the OP already. As a result, this may have been already pointed out somewhere on earlier pages but:
I agree complitely with the idea - there are many combinations that would look good, that the current restrictions will not allow. I think it's ok to keep the restrictions - as a default. But allow us an 'opt out' for the restrictions, a checkbox you can set, in similar way you can check to 'hide unowned pieces'. Make it so it displays a clear warning about the issue, and maybe make it so it has to be checked separately each time you start editing the costume... but do give us the OPTION to use combinations that are normally restricted.
Pretty sure I signed this already, but just in case:

Similarly, I'd like to see more glow options... maybe not unrestricted (good gravy trolls would take that way too far XD), but if nothing else, then female heroes getting the males' oiled face/glow "bug" or whatever it is. Glowy tiger stripes, for instance, are friggin' awesome, but it's sad the ladies lack that option. (Not to mention all the other little things that they can't get...)

I counldnt agree more

Freedom of choice, because Ugly Happens!
More options = more better. Sides, clipping can create some very interesting and great costumes.

Obvious, yes (sadly), but we can still show our discontent by having this thread continue to grow larger.
Yes. The larger it gets, the harder it will be for them to ignore.

I also would like layers as the petition mentions

This has 11 pages of signs, can we please get this already?
Only eleven? What about the other 28-29 pages in this thread? If you actually counted how many pages actually include "/signed"... whoa.

Can be annoying, especially on missing combos that do not clip in the slightest.
Edit: I'm actually fairly sure I signed this before, but meh.
