I personally am not using this to say kill Disco....I just wanna see justice served, and big corporations finally get put on a LEASH.....for they NEED to be put on a leash, and a short one at that.

There's a term for what Smoky's doing here, Val, and it's not "SJW socialist". Try, oh say, "thoughtless neo-anarchist" - Smoke's reaction is that of someone who's just finished reading V For Vendetta and failed to think about any of it. (Hint for those playing along at home: V didn't think he was a hero, he thought he was a necessary reaction to the fascist Norsefire government. It's why he trained Evey to think things through before the end, and to always remember her essential humanity.)
It's not "socialist" at all, as a socialist would not be cheering for a big win for anyone here, but rather for simply dismantling any large corporation (a socialist would also want any monetary settlement to go not to Abdin, but to charity). And "SJW"? Really? Think for a moment about what the terms "social justice" and "warrior" mean. The way you've been throwing that around in these forums lately merely applies the label to people with whom you disagree, but whose disagreement with you doesn't seem to be something you can articulate clearly. The disagreement rarely, if ever, has anything to do with social justice - in fact, from some of your other postings, I get the feeling that if social justice were indeed threatened, you'd be right out there in the front lines with whatever weapons you could bring to bear, whether those be force or sarcasm. (I'm more the sarcasm type myself - at my age, there's only so much physical force I can apply to anything.)

Can we please stop taking potshots at each other in public before a Mod swoops in? Not only are we getting derailed, its derailing into a subject that causes flame wars.

That. I've actually floated the idea before of banning Midnight's Edge videos from discussion entirely.
Go back and actually read the post from @duncanidaho11 that I conveniently quoted for you. There's even a button you can click to read the original post to verify that I didn't mess with it at all.

Abdin started in 2014, VERY similar....even Stevie Wonder could see the blatant stealing.
The problem is that Abdin didn't have Tardigrades in his original game concept at all. The game was originally named Epoch. He didn't even release concept art of what the Tardigrades in his game looked like until Discovery was already in production.

Honestly I'd support that. Problem is it wouldn't stop people from citing them.
Not only that, it would effectively ban most of the stuff people talk about in the forum since Midnight's Edge and the others cover just about everything in Trek that has public interest.

The name change was likely because of a naming conflict with the iOS game Epoch from Uppercut Games that came out in 2011. While it seems popular on that platform it is not exactly a household name either so Abdin might not have known about it when naming his game the first time. In fact it is possible that he added tardigrades from the original science stuff in order to have something to hang a unique sounding name on.
Also, it does not matter if CBS was developing the idea of tardigrades, or even filming at the same time Abdin published his version of the things, since it was one of the few things CBS managed to not leak until the shows were aired. And yes, it is possible that somehow Abdin got word of DSC using the things before anyone else did, but unless some solid proof exists that he did precedent is on his side.
That is why cases like that are so tangled up, it is nearly impossible to track down all possible links using paper trails and parallel ideas are nowhere near as rare as many seem to think they are. It is also why most cases are set up on points of similarity, which can be quantified, and why most settle out of court before the judge makes a decision.
If so I feel bad for him. Give credit where credit is due.
This is the same group that claimed Alec Kurtzman was fired, but somehow was allowed to remain on the studio in his office, etc.
As usual I take anything they claim as utter BS.

If you listened to them, they what they meant by that was more sidelined then actually fired.

Mmmm CBS didn't counter-sue though, so there's no reason to discuss whether Abdin may have copied CBS. I mean, we can see from his publicity materials he published that he didn't hesitate to "borrow" from previously published works. But that's not part of the lawsuit.
It doesn't actually matter who used it first. Tardigrades aren't an original creation. It doesn't matter who used them first. This is why it matters whether CBS knew about Abdin's work, and they apparently didn't. The latest actual news in that case is that the judge told Abdin to prove CBS even knew his game existed.

Hell... before the lawsuit I never even heard of the guy or his game.
And it is likely that 99.99% of gamers never heard of the guy or his game before his lawsuit. He has certainly receive a lot of PR due to his David vs. Goliath lawsuit.

Only if David was shooting spitballs instead of a sling and stones.
Still, no such thing as bad publicity, as they say.

Yeah, yeah, everything is "stolen" from someone else. Like, HG Wells' War of the Worlds had aliens landing on Earth and coming out of their spaceship to meet humans, just like in First Contact, so First Contact is a Wells ripoff, right?
<rolleyes.gif>
The only part of Star Trek: First Contact that I remember 'aliens landing on Earth and coming out of their spaceship to meet humans' were the Vulcans. And they came in peace

Yeah, he was so 'sidelined (with a 5 year $5 million dollar deal) that he's workiong on 3 live action Trek series directly still, two animated series - and they are having him develop a non-Trek science fiction series for CBSAA based of the 1970ies film "The Man Who Fell To Earth".
^^^
So yeah, excuse me if I call "BS" to Nerdidiotic and Co. claiming he's 'sidelined'.
