Those are two things I'd love to have as options. Especially the later may be easier than the first and it would be very much in line with the Trek idea. In the series ships are usually not destroyed but disabled whenever possible. Even Janeway preferred that way if it wasn't the Borg.

Willingly or not the Dev blog itself is just full of Starship Trooper quotes. Words like "war effort", "do your bit", "do their part" etc. are very similar to the movies propaganda. Now I just wonder whether it's a good thing that you just turned Starfleet into a military propaganda…

Updated with Assimilation nerf and the sack of 18 employees since it's never been communicated to us. Also added the bug fiasco with its news post edit since that's only been communicated very dimly and buried and a very long thread.
