If you want to save weapon drain on a beam boat you might want to have a look a the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array from the Romulan reputation tier iv, it costs zero energy to fire...but it's fairly worthless if you aren't using plasma beam/console build

I found crafting pointless since most of the crafting produced the EXACT same items found in other parts of the game. After crafting the Aegis set for my alts I haven't touched crafting since.
