My proxy was set to none. I tried EU but still got account server timed out, waiting for the launcher to load to try US now.

You said it worked, so I'm looking into doing that now.

Virgin Media here too. Tried loading the game client directly but it just tells me connection to the account server timed out.

Same here, me and my friend cannot get past the launcher.
