It's not the planned maintenance from this morning. Got kicked out to the loading screen a few minutes ago, and trying to log back in gave a login server error. Now the server light went red. So either it's a short issue and it'll be back up quickly, or something bigger and we'll hear something from the team.
I tried a couple other things. Changing my captain’s costume to another tailor save half works. My captain in the new costume is now wearing the Inquisitor uniform… but is still meshed with another default Inquisitor frame. I left the map, dropped the mission, and went back to ESD. My captain is back to normal, so nothing…
I also want to point out that ships are also content. If someone's gonna say "content" in the broadest form, then ships are included. It's probably fair to even say that, for some players, ships are the most important content to them. Also, this update came with a bunch of content. A ship, a mission with lots of key voice…
Yup. And in fairness like you said, a big criticism I have right now is the team's communication has been real bad. When you don't communicate with your players on game-breaking issues, you're asking for a forum fire.
They stopped the roadmaps with the pandemic. I think the last roadmap went into spring 2020, at which point the world shut down and there was no point in making a formal roadmap. But I do think more communication is needed in general, especially on game-breaking bugs.
This came in as I was typing my other reply. I'll say things are Cryptic's fault. The Foundry should still exist. It was a major feature of the game, that was mismanaged to the point where they actually admitted the expertise on maintaining the Foundry was gone. In that, yeah they absolutely tribbled up (pre-empting the…
I guess I feel a lot like Rattler here. I just can't find a reason to be upset or start accusing people I don't know of incompetence. It's just a game. I have a blast in the game and really love it, but very few things really affect my enjoyment of it. Glitches, most changes, doesn't bother me. I've been playing since…
Yeah Disco Klingon ships are an entirely different beast than TNG-onwards. I do agree though, slapping one of the 'current' paint jobs on say a Disco BoP makes a big difference.
Players noticed it right when they logged on. From what I've seen on Twitter, Reddit, here, it was noticed as soon as you logged in - the characters wouldn't be there. The STO twitter did say they should all be back with fixes though.
I'm not defending it. I'm saying that's just how the game industry does things. Like I said before, WoW accidentally rolled back years of character progression on a server. It sucks, but this is an industry-wide problem. And I'm just kinda used to it by now, and I don't get angry over it.
A couple of us have asked for more info and such on Twitter. I'd really like a fuller explanation, if not just to put to rest all the theories players are making up.
I didn't think it would come with those in the first place. Those were specific to the Disco Connie. I don't think it said in the blog anywhere that this would have any of the same stuff.
In this case, I draw the line as making personal accusations (against the devs and management), and a player coming in and claiming they have irrefutable knowledge of something none of us actually can verify.
Design the Next Enterprise is an FCT topic, saying that exactly. EDIT: I should add they've since done the Jupiter design process again, with the Summer ship. So that's clearly where they want to go.
Oh for sure, especially with characters disappearing. You wanna make sure that's fixed before going live again, and good lord that could be caused by anything. Programming is hell lol
I mean, you literally quoted the part where I mentioned that WoW released an update that accidentally rolled back years' worth of character progression. It happens, especially during a pandemic like this. This is not a Cryptic-specific issue. What matters is that they see they made a mistake, and took the game offline to…
I tend to agree. STO's mechanics, some of them at least, are pretty basic compared to other bigger MMOs. But I also don't enjoy those MMOs near as much as I enjoy STO, because they aren't Trek. And in a way I like that STO is a little simpler, that it offers lots of freebies, etc because I come here mainly for the Trek…
That's a whole lot of pointless assumptions and accusations. WoW had a bug that literally rolled back every character's progression on an entire server. It happens. The issue is when they do nothing about it, which in this case Cryptic is clearly doing something about it asap.
And that's the key, criticism. Criticism is fine. You can't get feedback without a dose of criticism. The issue is that many players take it too far, and start swinging with accusations or theories on behind-the-scenes stuff. That's when it gets pointless.
It's emergency maintenance. The server went offline for a bit earlier today, then they took it down for maintenance. The STO twitter confirmed it's down until at least 12pm pacific. They also confirmed they're working on issues caused by the patch, mainly characters disappearing.
I'll admit that I do generally fall into the defending category. But I also genuinely love this game, and the changes to a video game don't affect my world beyond a minor annoyance. So I tend to "defend" in the sense I get frustrated when players take shots at the devs and folks personally, because that's on a whole other…
The Georgiou's multiple torpedo tubes would like to have a word with you :sunglasses: But yeah, different styles are gonna appear to different folks. I love the Georgiou, but there are more than enough ships for everyone to find something they like. And I like how many options we have, from different eras.
So should we harp on the catch-all as you say, or maybe point the light on actual issues? Yeah, it's all on management. But if there's another issue that's actually the problem, shouldn't that be the focus? But again, I'm not saying it is or isn't management. I'm calling foul on someone who came in from an admittedly…
