  • @darthmeow504 Hell yes, I want to be the guy in the fancy suit, bossing people around. What's so wrong with that? Preferable to some of the content out there (say no to ground combat!) @markhawkman Definite improvement getting rid of them. Says a lot that by the 24th century nobody wants them. Even Naomi Wildman wanted to…
  • @somtaawkhar (I'd quote but I'm on mobile right now and "null" isn't good enough) Their development was altered sufficiently to expand their borders and result in the creation of the Sphere Builders. Even though they couldn't invade the Alpha Quadrant they certainly had enough to cause havoc in the Delta Quadrant.
  • It's mentioned in the Iconian arc that the Borg assimilated new technology that made them considerably more powerful in the "new" timeline (it's actually the Prime Universe or as close as CBS will let them) so we can consider them a threat once more... supposedly.
  • I don't want to be called a Captain because they can't implement being an Admiral properly, I want gameplay worthy of me being an Admiral.
  • I favour Gamma as part of a DS9 themed update. 2018 is the year Dax (the symbiote that is) was born, something needs to happen! Failing that I would accept an Alpha expansion based out of DS9.
  • Hold on, is this a necro thread or glitched?
  • If you are going to change time you really can't go back, change one thing, then return to your own time. You need to stick it out. Hopefully if we have the tech to travel in time we'd also have immortality figured out as well by then. Certainly if I was to do it, I'd be bringing some friends with me and doing some full…
  • I'm seeing clear evidence of American cultural domination, but nothing to suggest it is related to the military or politically motivated. That might just be American writers being lazy and assuming every child in the future has to go through the American education system because they don't know any better.
  • Before the Federation, but after Starfleet. That's the key point. They were a legitimate part of Earth's Starfleet and when United Earth joined the Federation of Planets and Starfleet became the primary force among them, Section 31 came along. The debate should be whether they remain legitimate, or if Starfleet simply…
  • It's been a while since I've seen the episodes so I'm really looking at Memory Alpha here, which is saying that it's Starfleet's charter Section 31 is covered in rather than the Founding Charter of the Federation. Does make sense though. The Federation exists with its own lovely, completely innocent view of the galaxy…
  • The whole thing seems suspicious. I do have to ask though, Star Trek is ultimately a franchise which exists solely to make money, why were no regulations put in place by the rights holders laying out what they considered acceptable. The BBC had one set out for Doctor Who 30 years ago and they're non-profit! I'm not saying…
  • Did we ever find out why the Xindi-Avians died out?
  • Perfect demonstration of that point, how many people brag about the first televised homosexual kiss happening on DS9? The UK bet them by TWENTY YEARS and to be honest with you, nobody made a big deal of it at the time and as a result it was pretty much forgotten unless you know your TV trivia. But then there is a…
  • I'm sure you can go even further back than that, to stories of possession or being corrupted by evil forces. It is curious to note how different the ideas behind the Cybermen and the Borg are, yet they seemed to reach a similar conclusion all the same.
  • It goes back further than that. We see a Dalek flying in Revelation of the Daleks three years earlier. With next to no extra budget they used a camera trick to achieve it, but as a result few people actually notice it unless pointed out to them (it is subtle), there was a more extravagant scene planned involving a dummy…
  • If you want to see corporate meddling and social engineering, look at the nonsense you are spouting. There had been executives at the BBC trying to get rid of the show for over a decade by this point. The show was a massive success, and they cancelled it because it was "inappropriate" for Saturday evening viewing with its…
  • The audio has been around for decades, it's not a recent recovery. The animation is new however. Vulcan is definitely independent, Trek wasn't on here for a good few years after. Planet Vulcan is actually a fairly old concept, it was part of a model of the solar system disproved by General Relativity which gives you an…
  • We are talking about one very specific genre here which does have certain rules imposed on it.
  • Star Trek has definitely taken Doctor Who ideas and run with them, the Voth for example are blatant rip-offs of the Silurians, back story and all. There's also a stolen Sontaran design, but the race is so different culturally I'll let that one slide. There may have been some tinkering with the Cybermen, but they ultimately…
  • It would, but having a one note society would lead to too many temptations to show off the Federation as "correct" when really you need to show it from both points of view. Of course you also get into the delicate situation of what happens when somebody wants to join the Rivals, but the Feds are opposed to their…
  • I think it would be interesting if it was a bit more than just the Prime Directive they disagreed on, there has to be something that they get "right" that makes them look better than the Federation. Trying to find that would be the key to getting them to work.
  • I think you will find the reason for that is because of capitalism rather than any genuine flaw with the technology. Why sell something that will last when you can resell them a replacement every few years? It is considered "poor business practice" to sell high quality products, because you can only sell them once. If you…
  • I would assume so long as the captain was fit for duty and the hormones were not affecting her judgement then there would be no issues. It's all down to her and her doctor. There's not exactly many cases to go by, is there? Certainly with lower ranking officers there appears to be no interference with their duties, but…
  • Uhura doesn't pretend not to be black, the difference is nobody really cares at that point, it's just a label. There are some rather curious divisions. Race is ignored, additionally gender identification is supposed to no longer be a concern (although the line outright confirming this was cut from the episode leaving us…
  • Sci-fi is a huge element of the success of Star Trek. It's a bit hard to judge as the science fiction is all encompassing so lets look at another science fiction show... Doctor Who (proudly blocking Star Trek from the record books since 1963). This started out with a mixture of science fiction and historical drama, within…
  • Diplomatic immunity... or something.
  • Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with fan fiction (even some of the... more unusual stuff). It is just this particular group tend to get a little too attached to "their" characters and don't like it when the original writer tells them they are wrong. Happens with other groups too, some of the Trek role players still…
  • By the looks of things they started it, then the LGBT extremists jumped in which didn't help any. If they are interested in two men being involved, leave them be, most people wouldn't even bat an eyelid if it was a man writing about two women. It's the "dirty fan fiction" people that really need a bit of scrutiny because…
  • Assuming no prior knowledge but that they had the rights, end of 2017 best case scenario. Most likely well into 2018.
  • I'm sure it will be brilliant, there is nothing wrong at all with this show. I can't wait to see it on Netflix! Now I wait and enjoy the jealousy...
