I know this post is a year old, but I've had a similar issue. As I leveled up, I've been able to deal with enemy ships with a fair amount of difficulty. It's not on your end, darthwoo. I have the same issues. I also did a tracert, and it timed out after the 15th hop. I'm really hoping that Cryptic is trying hard to fix the problem. I just have to say that whatever problem the game is having seems to be smarter than their IT staff. =/
