21 days is normal for the event campaign events. You only need 14 days of progress not 20 and there are 7 spare days.
Agreed. Remember the days when events only ran for the intended number of days, then the servers couldn't handle things so events were increased by an extra week to allow for issues. Three weeks is more than enough time to complete a two week event.
I kinda wish it would have a bit long, I've been feeling like garbage for weeks and was in the hospital for a while so I need to spend zen to finish it

Eh, when was that?
I've been playing STO since the invention of the wheel and Events have always had days spare for completion.
There was a time where the server was messing up and they had keep to extending events by 24 hours, this happened quite a few times. We are going back a while here when Brandon was CM and even Trevor (Smirk). If I remember correctly it was Al Riviera that made the announcement that they would extend events to cover incase things went awry. This was 10 or 12 years ago.
I remember that period well.
Events ran as they currently do with three weeks for 14 days of progress.
Back then, Events were rare as Featured Episode runs were the main thing.

right. and there was no grind. you ran the episode/tfo you got the ship/toy. but then you had to do it for every alt.. there were a lot of people who blew sighs of relief when they changed to the grind we have now, because they STILL are saving time because they have so many alts

I remember the days of character unlock only.
Having to do the event multiple times a day, once per character...
The second Account Unlock came out was a massive relief.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Back when we did Featured Episodes, I had about half the amount of characters I have now, but they were all played a lot more regularly. The FE had 3, sometimes 4, rewards and unlocked each reward once per week. You didn't miss anything by not participating as the rewards weren't removed, but you got a Featured Episode Reward Box (Spec Point or Upgrade) the first time you played the Episode that week, once per account.
The Featured Episode method only kept players logging in once per week, so I can understand the change to the Events we currently have.
There is a bigger grind nowadays, leading to STO-burnout - in other words, I often do the Event for the 14 days, and then take a week off & even skip a Red Alert just so I can get a break from the grind.
Anyone remember when we just actually played the game?

I have been doing mainly events for the last few years since the map change bug has gotten so bad that missions seem to take twice as long with all the dumps-to-login-screen nonsense. It is bad enough that mission map changes dump like that about nine out of ten times.
The OP is right. The Good Time to Die event overlaps the Risa event.
If you miss the announcement and complete the Risa event, then there are only 14 days left for the Good Time to Die event.
In my opinion unnecessary because now we are in a Red alert event of a week that could have been skipped. This would have prevented an overlap.
How can you miss it?? It is literally shown in the same Event UI as the Summer event, the same UI you need to go into to check on your progress, and not to mention the 'Welcome' UI every time you log in to the game. The overlap is no issue, because it's just an extra 5-10 minutes to add on to the 5 minutes of whichever Risa activity you do.

I could understand event fatigue, but it was very clear from the beginning how many days you'd have to complete this event.
And, indeed, missions like To hell with honour can be completed real fast, just like the Risa stuff. The fact that there was overlap between the summer and GTtD events, is no good reason why any event should be prolonged.
In fact, I'd argue that it's great that there was overlap, as it means you could work on two events at the same time (or rather, on the same day).
I'd actually welcome more overlap between events, as it means there would be more missions that many people queue up for (i.e., there's more content that will launch quickly and thus a greater variety of content that can be played fast) and it also could allow for longer breaks between them.

I'm glad it's not just me. It seems to happen really frequently with instanced maps, or ones where I'm the first one in (like a fleet holding for example).

It was probably back when we still had monthly subs. I've been playing events only for the past ten years.
