I've been playing with my Discoprise for well over two years now. I've dabbled but always have to go back to her because, well she's just so darned good. 5/3, two hanger bays, 8 engineering slots.
Anyway, I just picked up the Monitor as I had a few zen to burn and... I absolutely fell in love with her. Gorgeous ship, good stats. So I built her up to be a decent carrier and enjoyed playing the ship but then the hard truth hit me. It just has no advantages over the Discoprise, only significant disadvantages. If only they had made this ship an FDC (Fed only has one AFAIK) I could have put up with them. I've tried to justify it but just can't.
So I am on my knees here. Please give us a legendary Nebula Miracle Worker FDC. Please, I'll pay triple. In fact, any current era FDC Miracle worker FDC would be most appreciated.
There's 4 Federation-only (ignoring cross-faction flying) FDC's. There's a few more if we count non-faction ships too.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me the 32c detached floating bits and the Tellarite ship are not at all. The leaves only a Connie or another Connie for fed ships.
It's too bad "real" carriers have never been buffed to compete with FDCs. I like my Fleet Hiawatha with disco skin that my Disco captain flies but I have to accept that I'm giving up some power to use it.

Real Carriers do compete. The strongest Carriers in game for pet builds are generally not FDC's. Take the new T6 Obelisk fit the strongest Fed Pets in game on it and you will get more damage out of them then on a Connine FDC.
FDC's are better when you want a hybrid of main weapons and pets. Go full pet build and FDC's are not automatically better.
I do agree Carriers could perhaps do with something like a Coms Array slot that goes next to the Defector and boosts pets.
The Hiawatha class is missing that 1 engineer slot but its got everything else a full carrier build needs so that I would take it over a Connie. We can get stronger fed pets with more torpedo pet spam on a Hiawatha then a Connie. Making the Hiawatha a stronger Fed themed Carrier pet build then any Fed FDC.

I meant standard fed design, not specific race based. The Tellarite ship doesn't have a FED aesthetic. I won't ever fly c32 Disco ships ever regardless of stats (just personal taste) and the other two are variants of the Connie (a variant of which I currently fly). What we need is a TNG/STO timeline FDC. The Akira or Nebula being perfect or even the Typhon which due to it's relatively small size is crying out to be a FDC.

I'm only really interested in flying Valks. In which case no Carrier offers any advantage over the Donnie. In fact, regardless of the 5/3 the 8 engineering consoles nothing in fact, comes close. And I wish it did. I want to fly that Monitor sooooo much. I know I can, but it's annoying knowing that I can port the build to the Donnie and have exactly the same traits with a few extra engineering slots and an extra couple of forward facing weapons thrown in for free.
They clearly aren't going to make carriers competitive with FDCs or they would have done so by now. The solution is to just make less carriers and more FDCs. The Monitor gets huge amounts of love, and I think, judging by most people's comments I've read, is people's favourite Nebula variant.
We still need a Legendary Nebula. Imagine if it was a Legendary Miracle Worker FDC...
I meant standard fed design, not specific race based.
Taking that into consideration, we'll count the two Constitution variants as 1, ignore the Tellarite vessel, but we do still need to count the 32c FDC as it is still a Starfleet Design. (If we use the term 'Fed-design', this must include the Tellarite ship.)
Ignoring the non-faction ships and look at the number of FDC's available for the four factions, we get the following numbers for the total amount of T6 Flight Deck Carriers per faction:
Starfleet = 2 (Constitution MW & Friendship)
Klingon = 2 (Orion Blackguard & D7 MW)
Romulan = 1 (Silik)
Dominion = 0
Thus, the Starfleet faction isn't underrepresented in FDC's. If anything, the Dominion are the clear underdogs.
If we also include the T5 ships, this list changes only by one ship:

I much prefer larger carriers too. But FDCs tend to be smaller than standard carriers (I think it's to justify carriers being able to launch frigates). The Monitor is a big ship designed to carry fighters though.
Of course, just because a small ship can't launch frigates doesn't mean a large ship can't launch fighters.
Still have much love for the Jupiter, first ship I ever bought with my hard earned cash!
I think my best hope lies with the Typhon. But again, unfortunately it's not a large ship. About the length of an Intrepid so not going to fulfill my Battlestar Galactica urges.

I have it on my Cardassian toon! Yeah, great ship (the Frigates, not so much). I think its more of a flavour thing to be honest. I like to imagine red alert going off and 144 pilots (72 two seater Valkyries) scrambling to their fighters.
4 Frigates launching just doesn't do it for me.
Red alert and crew scrambling to their monitors to play with their joysticks (droneships) even less so.

The problem with the Yukawa is they are doubled bugged. They have a bug that lets them work in carrier bays they should not fit into. But they also have a major AI bug that makes them the worst pets in game and near useless with the bug being worse in the Elite version. I would recommend avoiding all use of Yukawa pets. Any pet is better then a Yukawa.

Why only Valks? Why not Command Kodai which are Valks only better? Command Kodai are a copy and paste of Valks and then given an extra 300% torpedo output when used on ships like the Hiawatha. Command Kodai on a Hiawatha is a major advantage over Valks or Command Kodai on a Donnie.
Doing quick paper math so I might be off a little. Hiawatha will output 300% more pet torps compared to a Donnie.

The downside to the Kodais is that they're locked behind getting the Legendary Akira, so not quite as available as the Valks. They're still good though, and I kinda wish they were using Pulse Phasers so that they weren't just a Valk Reskin.

That is a valid downside. I often find Kodai Command Fighters are misunderstood. They are not just a Valk Reskin they are a Valk Reksin with a large torpedo buff making them the strongest Federation pet in game even stronger then Valks.

They look interesting. Not as sexy as Valks but more appropriate for the Connie. No pulse cannons though so that will effect SAD in a pretty severe way.

Shouldn't be any different than the Valks honestly. Standard Kodais are basically just a Valkyrie Reskin. The only ones that have something different is the Command variant. So SAD should function exactly the same with Kodais as it does Valks. Only reason I'd like Pulse Phasers on the Kodais is to give them at least a little flavor compared to the Valks. And give Terran Valks Agony Phasers.

They have pulse cannons. They are a copy and paste of the Valks with an added Command boost that works on the Hiawatha and doesn't work on the Donnie.
That's why I was saying the real Carriers are better then FDC's. Put a Valk or Command Kodai on a Donnie and they will shoot something like 400 pet torpedoes over 30 seconds. Put the Command Kodai on the Hiawatha and they will shoot something like 1500 torpedoes in the same 30 seconds.
> @pottsey5g said: > They have pulse cannons. Ahhh, that's a shame. I looked into the Kodai and it says they do around -6% DPS unless they are using the command ability. I dislike torpedoes and usually run FAW builds.
I'm just not sure that pets firing 1500 torps in 30 seconds is better than the extra console slot from MW (plus the awesome MW BOFF abilities) and extra two forward weapons.
However I do like them. If I use them on the Connie do they naturally put out less DPS or are they literally just the same as Valkyries? If so, I might pick them up for flavour.

Not sure what you mean by you dislike torpedo and prefer FAW. That has no impact on the pets?
Command Kodai are Naturally less DPS from a damage point of view so I would stick to the Valks on a Connie and only drop Valks for Command Kodai on full Command Carriers.
Normal Kodai and Valkyries are 100% the same its just a cosmetic change. Command Kodai do something like 10% less DPS unless on a full Command Carrier then do 10% more DPS around abouts.
> @pottsey5g said: > Not sure what you mean by you dislike torpedo and prefer FAW. Could you please clarify? You said Kobai do less dps so would stick to Valkyries on the Connie.
You then said they are exactly the same. Then said Kodai do 10% less again (unless on a Command carrier).
So are Kodai on the Connie worse than Valkyries or exactly the same?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me the 32c detached floating bits and the Tellarite ship are not at all. The leaves only a Connie or another Connie for fed ships.

No idea where you got that from, they don't compete
They fall behind the raw firepower of tactical carriers and just don't have the weapon slots and eng consoles of a FDC...all carriers have the quick deployment
Especially confusing on the Vovin, you have to either sacrifice tac or science to make the ship work, which give the FDC a even bigger advantage. The only thing that carriers can do better is science, but that's only works out on the carriers with a cmdr sci...which the Vovin doesn't even have...the Vovin is like a FDC but with less bite, and sci carriers don't have the sheer number of eng console slots...
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

There are two types of Kodai. The first version are caleld Kodai and are 100% the same as Valks. The 2nd version are called Command Kodai which are weaker unless a ship has Inspiration then they get a major buff.

Only that as I run FAW, there is no way I would ever pick command over MW. And you need command to trigger Kodai abilities as I understand it.
Inspiration triggers on every bridge officer power with Command giving double points. You can run a MW with FAW build ands till trigger Inspiration if its a Carreir that has Inspiration.

I play full pet builds with the focus on maxing out pet damage over ship weapons. That's why I don't tend to use FDCs as they tend to be weaker for pet builds. I never had any problems with raw firepower. The Vovin pretty much has a perfect layout and is better for boosting pet damage then most FDC's. If one is playing with Fed only pets then a Vovin is ahead of the same pet build on most FDCs.
For exmple 400 pet torpedoes on a 5/3 FDC or 1400 pet torpedoes in the same timeframe on a Vovin. Give me the Vovin which will also most likely have more pet haste and more pet damage and healing from its 135 Aux. Or just go full on Droneships on a Romulan carrier which make FDC's look weak. (in terms of pet builds).
In short for full pet builds there is little to no reason to go for a FDC.

So, Starfleet has the most Flight Deck Carriers! The cross-faction ships shouldn't be included either as they're specific race-based:

They look interesting. Not as sexy as Valks but more appropriate for the Connie. No pulse cannons though so that will effect SAD in a pretty severe way.
Shouldn't be any different than the Valks honestly. Standard Kodais are basically just a Valkyrie Reskin. The only ones that have something different is the Command variant. So SAD should function exactly the same with Kodais as it does Valks. Only reason I'd like Pulse Phasers on the Kodais is to give them at least a little flavor compared to the Valks. And give Terran Valks Agony Phasers.
> They have pulse cannons. They are a copy and paste of the Valks with an added Command boost that works on the Hiawatha and doesn't work on the Donnie.

Could you please clarify? You said Kobai do less dps so would stick to Valkyries on the Connie.
You then said they are exactly the same. Then said Kodai do 10% less again (unless on a Command carrier).
So are Kodai on the Connie worse than Valkyries or exactly the same?

Only that as I run FAW, there is no way I would ever pick command over MW. And you need command to trigger Kodai abilities as I understand it.

Should help clarify a bit more too.

Brilliant. That makes sense. Still didn't see mention of pulse phasers on the standard Kodai though.
> Because there aren't any. Its something I WISH they had.
So they AREN'T the same as Valkyries then, because Valkyries do have pulse cannons... I'm confused...
Edit: if you click on elite it DOES say they have phaser pulse cannons.
