If done right, multiversing in general can be a very good thing, adding more variety in stories and potential captain-backgrounds. It would make it easier to support temporal characters too, so the recruits would actually have new stuff to do by providing avenues to do missions based on TOS, DSC, SNW, etc. without twisting the current STO lore inside out to try and accommodate it.
On the other hand, as I said in a different thread, I am not sure how useful that change token would be since so much can be changed and tweaked for free already, though I suppose if someone bought a cstore race it could be used as a sort of upgrade, like changing an unjoined Trill into a joined one.

"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.

Ye, software folks said they figured it out a while back per Ten Forward. Remaining hurdle was the systems team then (IIRC) citing "business reasons" for not wanting to implement. With some major changes happening with the systems team, the argument has apparently come down on the "let us give them money so we can have nice things! side. :P

This is going to make a lot of people happy since the odds of getting one from a Phoenix box are roughly one in eleventy billion.
That actually makes me wonder.. If you created a 'restricted' character (IE: Romulan, Gem'Hadar, etc... ) how does flipping the race work? Those stories, etc.. were tailor made for that specific race. When the character change token mentions 'faction', does it mean Fed/KDF, or does it distinguish between things like Romulans and Gem'Hadar as well? It's going to look somewhat stupid to have a Gem'Hadar "First" as a Bolian, for example.

See "within your chosen faction". You cannot change faction alignment with these tokens. In the process of character creation: faction informs what species you have available, species does not decide faction. Ergo, species options being kept within the limits you were presented with at the start of the game They did not rewrite how characters are generated (from an end-user perspective) with this update.
For Jem'Hadar, the only utility here will be to upgrade a vanilla character to vanguard Jem'Hadar if you didn't have that unlocked when you first made them. We should not expect (unless told otherwise) that this will open up new combinations (as the process of adding new species to the game isn't likely linked 1:1 with allowing players to change a certain class of their character's metadata without catastrophic issue).

As its within the character's faction... there will be no issues regarding story. For Romulans, it means choosing between the available races for the Romulans. For Jem'Hadar... normal and Vanguard.
You'll get the most bang for 2409 Fed and KDF. TOS Fed has 4 options, and DSC Fed has a couple options as well. But again... its within the chosen faction.
So if you have an alien gen pho Cardassian, and have Cardassians unlocked... now you can make them a legit Cardassian.
Odds are though you may have to recreate any outfits you have saved as those are saved for species. So for example if you saved a Sierra 1 uniform on a Human, you wouldn't have access to that Sierra 1 outfit on a Trill.
So it says you will be able to change your captains gender and species “within your faction” of I used it in a character from a subfaction such as the TOS starfleet does that mean I will only be able to the character into one of the four species specifically linked to that alternate start or will I be able to turn it into a species from the full starfleet faction?

Same for the Lobi I guess. While it's relatively easy to get with certainty, 500 crystals on top of the event-specific piece of equipment is really nice. This event is remarkably generous.
I mean, that's 3 free Boimler effect's or bioneural infusion circuit's when there's a sale.

Yea... odds are subfactions are also limited to what's available to said subfaction as technically it is a faction code wise, thus has a different species pool from the others. If its a TOS, you got TOS options. If its DSC you got DSC options. If its Romulan you got Romulan options.
I will admit that the Captain Alteration Token sounds very interesting.
Hopefully it will a slot to all non alien races.
That said, it is tempting to change old characters into Cardassian, Romulan or Liberated Borg.
I wonder what the cost in the C-store will be for this new Captain Alteration Token.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Romulan was always obvious as they are fully their own faction witha unique hub and everything. I was just wishful thinking that the alternate starts for Federation that once you reach the Federation get essentailly fully rolled into the 25th century federation faction would have the 25th century options available.

Until we actually get our hands on these tokens we don't know. However consider the differences between the three Fedsm the animations and effects are different, along with different missions. Hell TOS Feds have a whole story arc unique to them, and DSC Feds start with an arc other factions go through later as "simulations". So, to me anyways, that is a LOT that can potentially be messed up by being able to switch from TOS to 2409 or DSC. Makes more sense just to basically reactivate the Character Creator for the chosen character's faction.
The TOS faction is another one that could really use the 'Alien' option in the character generator. There are a lot of races in TOS and ENT that could be done which would be era-appropriate. Just widening out the color palettes would at least be a help if the devs cannot add the tab, since a lot of the aliens were done with odd color makeups and wigs.

I proposed this way back and got a firm no from Geko, as he was *really* invested in making TOS FED as literal an interpretation as possible of limited aesthetics. Eg. humans are humans, maximum bumpers applied.
With the team turnover though...this is an area that's very likely up for reconsideration. Though I'd take the option being considered (just give TOS FED access to all 2409 FED species options) over narrowly defined options that omit STO's most unique feature (alien-gen, I've yet to find another game to include something like it and as well fleshed out with options besides Spore and modding Stellaris.) It's worth going the extra mile to at least give everyone an alien-gen option.

I'd give TOS the species that are not known to be later additions to UFP, so if we don't know when they joined they'd be up for consideration for the TOS faction though some like the Ferengi or Bajorans who we do know had their first contact after the time the TOS storyline is set should be out.

I'd love to do that!
Looks pretty cool, though...
