I'm strangely drawn to using Borg probes are hangar pets.
That said, it feels more like a ship with a Borg skin than a borg vessel.
It would feel more like a true Borg vessel if it had an innate adaptability allowing slow regeneration, weapons becoming more effective as the battle lasts longer etc.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Well... its not connected to the Collective, so its not going to have all the bells and whistles of the Collective. Bu hey now we have two legit Borg ships players can fly. The Type 3 Juggernaut and now this Dreadnought Carrier.
I remember an assimilated Klingon from unimatrix zero in a Borg Sphere.
Would love to mirror that.

Ok there are a few typos. I assume its 20 Inertia and not 200.
I also assume unlocking the trait doesn't unlock vanguard shield shaping from the previous lockbox ship. Copy paste error there guys.
Speaking of copy paste... is the new Targeted Excision really just a copy of Coordinated Assault from the Federation Heavy Escort Carrier, Klingon Qa'Tel Flight Deck Raptor, and Romulan Republic Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird? I mean really.... a new infinity box ship with an old trait with a new name? Or is that the mother of all copy paste errors... you really haven't been using the same copy since July 2015 have you?
It is still an interesting ship ◙◘◙, despite the C○py+P4st3 err0rz in the Bl0g•p0st.

I would like to second the fact that it would be remarkably unacceptable for this ship to have the same trait as the t6 Akira, just slightly better in that it provides BOTH beam overload and cannon rapid fire to pets when you use EITHER beam overload OR cannon rapid fire, rather than only providing overload or only cannon rapid fire depending on which one you used. Granting both regardless of which you used is a quality-of-life, value-added change that should be made to the Coordinated Assault trait, not implemented as a new trait.

Sounds more like a single target version of Superior Area Denial to me. The T6 Akira trait may do something similar, but its got a range stipulation as well as requiring you to use the same type of weapon and ability you want to bestow upon your hanger pets. So if you want to give them Beam Overload, they HAVE to have beams, YOU have to have beams to use the ability, and they have to be within 10k. You want to give them Cannon Rapid Fire, THEY have to have cannons, you have to have cannons to use that ability, and they need to be within 10k.
So instead of comparing it to Coordinated Assault, it should be compared to Superior Area Denial. Because I'll tell you right now short of Strike Wing Escorts most Carriers aren't going to be running cannons, and hanger pets can and will go beyond 10k and thus not benefit from Coordinated Assault.
When I first saw the assimilator show up in the Borg Red Alert and the other TFO missions, I was thinking "Can it be? Are they making more Borg models in preparation for making a new playable faction?" Nope. Lockbox ship...

"Original to Star Trek Online" huh? Yeah, I'm going to call bull on that. Star Trek Armada would like a word with you. The way you built it as a Dread Carrier? Fine I'll give you that. But don't tell me it's "original".

It's more Borg content. They now effectively have all the known Borg ship models as part of the game. To some of us it would make a whole lot more sense to have a playable Borg faction with Borg ships then have the rest of the galaxy flying Borg ships for yucks. Or maybe it's just me. I was hoping for it but it may never pan out.

There are a few problems with a new faction of any kind, that have already been covered in previous livestreams. A Borg faction has the added problem of stepping all over Lifers and their access to Liberated Borg characters. Also there is no narrative way to integrate a Borg faction anyways.
Not only that, the geometric nature of most Borg ships would make them a nightmare to fly as they have no defined sides, nor do they bank like all the other ships in the game, other than maybe the Probe. Meaning that players would get absolutely lost flying one as... which way are they even going? The Assimilator does have a defined front. (I speak from experience playing skirmish in Star Trek Legacy as a Borg Cube and had NO IDEA which way I was facing while in combat)
So literally the best case scenario really was just making the ships available in one form or another for players. We now have two Borg ships playable in game. You can easily space barbie RP that you're Borg if you want.

That wasn't a problem for Cryptic either when they released the Borg lockbox. Or for most of the playerbase, who could now relatively easy and cheaply get Borg stuff.
Some people (including myself) were complaining back then that the Liberated Borg species and lifers were losing some of their uniqueness. Those arguments were mostly ignored back then. And unless I'm mistaken, you were actually one of the people defending Cryptic with the 'Lib Borgs still are the only ones with access to the infected skin and actual species name'-argument.
I'm still of the opinion that lifers were screwed over with the release of the Borg Lockbox (and associated Lobi gear). They could have updated the lifer subscription benefits back then, but instead they added the new stuff to a lockbox, removing some of the uniqueness from lifers' benefits in the process.
And now they're once again choosing the easiest way to add stuff. Namely, through a lockbox, instead of an additional, long-requested faction.
All those years ago, it might have been valid to say 'well, we don't want lifers to feel that some of their unique rewards are being trivialised'. Nowadays, after having done precisely that, it's a poor excuse for not wanting to add a Lib-Borg faction and, once again, releasing stuff in the easiest way possible.

No one is mad my man. Just calling it out. *wink nudge* And as far as missing the Armada call out in the blog, that's on me. I usually don't bother reading and just go right to the ship stats. So when do we get cubes next?

Coordinated Assault should be compared to Superior Area Denial, and yes, SAD is better because it has more bonuses it provides and has better quality of life because you don't have to match weapons with ship and pets. I didn't even realize that Coordinated Assault had a 10km range limit, nor would I ever suspect as much because that is indeed ridiculous, as if the trait was made by someone who doesn't know pets can go outside 10km from their mothership. This "upgraded" version of Coordinated Assault is a slap in the face to the existing trait. Coordinated Assault should get upgraded to match the standards listed in this trait and give the borg ship something else. I certainly hope we are not in for the era of "We ran out of ideas, so now premium ships are getting better versions of old traits."
Efficient Reclamation: While under the effects of beam overload or cannon rapid fire, your hangar pets heal themselves and their mothership for x% of damage delt to enemy hulls.
Reclaiming matter from enemy vessels is often more efficient than replication.
Adaptive analysis network: While under the effects of beam overload or cannon rapid fire, gain shield penetration (or bonus shield damage or damage resistance debuff to target) per hangar pet attacking your target.
(alternate:) While under the effects of beam overload or cannon rapid fire, gain damage resistance rating per pet targeting the enemy vessel and reduce enemy damage resistance per pet targeting enemy vessel.
Using multi-vector analysis of enemy units allows for rapid adaptation to their offensive and defensive capabilities.
Collective Synergy: While under the effects of beam overload or cannon rapid fire, gain x% bonus damage (or crit severity) per friendly hangar pet on the field.
The data gathered by support craft enables more efficient targeting of enemy critical systems.
Just to name a few more Borg-themed traits that wouldn't supplant existing ones.

also, just a bit OP IMHO. a tractor that does kinetic damage and a 30 second cooldown in a console? add the omega set and you will have 100% tractor uptime. Will polarize hull neutralize the console?
From testing, it also seems the pets are extremely bad at what they're supposed to do (assimilate other ships), since not only do they appear to need to deliver the killing blow (already a massive problem), but they also need to be close (as in, VERY close) to the target to even deign assimilate it.
In practice, in a normal situation, they're likely to never do they job. Also, they have very poor damage output.
Something may need to be done to make them viable.
Also, since you don't get assimilated pets, the console loses what would make it good.

If I had one I'd probably stick to my preferred hanger pets, either Valkyries or Kodais. Never really used Frigates outside of the Yukawas as they had mostly always been bound to one particular ship.

yep I slot valkyries, and in inventory I keep scorpions and alliance fighters if I need disruptor and or plasma and AP damage. easier to swap out hangars than to slot different beams and consoles

Never thought about that. Might think about it. I got access to Scorpions, Alliance, and Stalkers. Should be able to also access either Klingon fighters or Orion Slavers as well so... that would be Plasma, AP, Tet, and Disruptor. My Valkyries are Phaser, which leaves... Polaron. I think that would be Dominion fighters.

Love those, just wish the Command Kodais would be fixed. The none Command versions are so much fun to use.

Your not missing anything on frigates. The only frigates in the game that don't suck are the Romulan drone ships. Those are insanely good pets. Which makes these borg pets even more painfully bad. All they had to do was copy the Romulan drone ships and give them an assimilate mechanic. The Romulan drones have zero issues getting kills. Instead of mimicing the borg ones would "assimilate" appearance.
This one should have been an easy win. Copy paste change special mechanic.
It doesn't seem its in the cards to get any real pet overhaul. But really all the frigate pets should be unlocks instead of being locked to a ship... they should simply be restricted to full carrier for slotting. No frigates on little sci multi missions or something. But every full carrier should be able to slot any frigate they have unlocked imo. Sure everyone would just run drone ships... but the current system isn't very intuitive or very good.
