Same problem here. I tried rebooting, launching directly from star trek online.exe (I have steam), I even re-installed the game. Nothing so far has worked. Other people are saying they are not having this problem. I also checked with them, and the file date on the launcher is the same as I have. This was working fine for me yesterday.

Same here. Tried several times in the last hour or so, all attempting launcher update 5 times and failed. Arc launcher comes up ok, but STO launcher is a no-go.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I am also experiencing this problem, unfortunately. The game's been working fine for the last week that I've been playing, but suddenly I cannot log in. Same symptoms as the others listed above.

That's the problem. Before the launcher comes up (via Steam), the game appears to reach out to the update server. It appears to be unable to reach that server at the moment, thereby denying the ability to patch the game.

Same. Tried three times, rebooted PC and checked Internet connection, then tried to login three more times. STO doesn't want me to play I guess.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

Same thing. Most likely a router in the area has gone down. Give it a few hours and it should be fixed happened to me before as well.

Having this same issue. Played all the way into the early afternoon of the 21st, Got back around 1930 EST to play again and have been unable to connect since. And it appears that Champions Online is also not accessible. I heard something about all their games sharing the same server for updates or logins or some such but can't remember the exact statement in regards to that. Just glad to know that this isn't only happening to me. Will try again later to see if the issue is resolved.

Have already attempted login through multiple accounts, different game (CO), uninstalling/reinstalling through Steam and Arc (hoping for an older launcher that might still make connection), the power of prayer (as an atheist it came off sounding insincere - maybe others will have more luck). My next angle of attack is blasse indifference and reverse psychology. Other tips or solutions are welcome.

I have the same issue, but possibly worse. Not only does it not log in and update, but I can't even get to www.startrekonline.com. it times out and acts like I have no internet, yet I can go to any other page. I had to disable the wifi on my phone so that it used my cell data to even get to this page!

I was playing the game all morning yesterday then left it logged in as I went to get lunch and came back to the game timing out for afk too long. I expected that to happen. But the I could not get back on. Closed it and reopened, Timeout. Rebooted, same. Reinstalled, same. Tried my daughter's computer, same. Cleared my browser Data, and DNS cache, same. Even changed my DNS servers, same.

I called my ISP (spectrum) and they say my IP address it blacklisted but I think that is wrong. I did my own testing and found that I can remote ping the site for an IP address, then I took that IP and ran a trace route on it and it dies after:

    12 47 ms 39 ms 49 ms a72-52-63-39.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com [72.52.63.39]

If you guys want to see if you get the same, this is how you trace:

Do a windows search for dos prompt, run it.

    Type tracert 208.95.184.222

This is assuming you can't get onto the page www.startrekonline.com

Hope this info helps the guys trying to fix this!

Folks, they know about it, and it looks like a geographical issue, particularly in Ohio.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I opened a ticket yesterday, and they are trying to blame Spectrum/Charter for blocking the server. I don't know why Spectrum would have a reason to do that, but in talking with others, I at least believe the problem is limited to those of us on Spectrum. Since tracert hits an initial CDN server before timing out, I tend to believe that their CDN is messed up. Those are geographically distributed.

So, either a very specific server at the CDN that we'd all get routed to is dead, or the CDN is blocking Spectrum, or they're right, and Spectrum is blocking that server. Hooray, we all get screwed either way.

Comment above states Spectrum said their IP address is blacklisted. To be clear, are they implying that STO's (or more specifically akamai, the CDN's) server is blacklisting their IP? If so, it would seem it's more of a gateway address for all of Spectrum, though I guess if it blacklisted a lot of individual Spectrum IPs, that's not impossible, but still very unlikely.

Use a VPN tell they get it fixed, I use PIA and had to change my location to Washington D.C. One I did, I was able to log in.

I used a free VPN and this absolutely worked for me.
  • gandr42gandr42 Member Posts: 3 Arc User
The blacklisting turned out to be some company that other companies use to block email servers of spam. So it would only affect me if I was running my own email server. Lol

So either the spectrum tech didn't know this or he was using it to get me off the phone. Once I found and read the blacklist page I realized it was a waste of time.

Now I'm off to find a VPN. 5 stars to jbessinger0000 for that gem!!

Just to let you guys know, at one point the VPN I was using didn't like me using it for the purpose I was and cut me off. However, after it did so, on a lark I tried reconnecting and discovered that they seem to have fixed the issue for me.
  • gandr42gandr42 Member Posts: 3 Arc User
yeah, I got an email from ARC asking how they did on my issue. That's usually sent after the fix, so I checked, yup it working again.

Glad I was able to help suggest an alternative until they get it fixed.
