First off love the game, been playing since launch off and on. Lifer status. I have many different sets fully upgraded across many toons. I figure out a build for whatever toon I'm playing and focus on leveling before jumping into the story, and then I usually play on advanced so that it is more challenging, but still satisfying when clobbering everyone. I think I'm okay at the game - definitely not a PvP player by any stretch but I know my way around the game and the different builds after experimenting for so long. I don't care about one-shotting enemies because it's just not fun when someone rolls in and just starts obliterating everything (wish Elite had a random), although I do have respect for those of you that wield such epic power. I think I enjoy the teamwork aspect of the game nowadays and have fallen in love with heals or off-heals, but going off in a tangent. . .
I said all that to say this: I really do not like the missions where you force me to play some other character or ship because usually that character/ship is substandard to what I went in with. This can lead to headaches and frustration at higher difficulties when I just have two or three skills and a weapon attack. It's just not fun. You even force me to play the mirror version of myself, but I don't have any of my skills. Weird. Why not just put a costume over my toon/ship so I still look like whatever it is you want me to be but I retain my skills and equipment. Or do something with these characters you force us into. Make them better or flashier. Having to play through a long mission as J'Ula makes me hesitant but now with Ascension. . .the level is cool but it's so frustrating having to go through it without my abilities. (If you like it that's totally cool, just dropping in my two cents.)
So that's it. I still love jumping in on randoms when I get on, so more options there would be nice if I had another suggestion. And maybe make respeccing free to experiment with impunity (at least in the end-game?).
Thank you for a great game. And thank you for the fun, RTFO players!
I enjoy the 'creature' play, and in no way should you have the same equipment and skills when this happens. I do not find it 'fun' spending all of 1 sec defeating critters. I want a real battle these days, and the 'creature' play is perfect to do this aside from playing on Elite.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I enjoy it too. However, the one thing I really don't like is that I can't rearrange my skills trays. If this were fixed, it would be a massively valued QOL improvement for me.
The worst part of being stuck in the inquisitor's body is that you lose auto attack and any semblance of a proper ground build.
Just terrible design in the first place, not sure who on the dev team keeps pushing these missions but take a hint man, we put a lot of effort and money into our characters and builds and it's not enjoyable when that is stripped away.
it's funny, I think it was Star trek fleet command 2 that has an episode where you run into your mirror self, and that ship is identical to yours. that was fun, would have been better if there was a way to have the game use your "tricks" against you
I understand and am not against the creature play, just jazz it up a bit. Something about it is just underwhelming to me. And as I said, I do not like storming in and obliterating everything in a second either. And, as telbasta mentioned, some of us spend time designing a build around a theme or some weapon mechanic or some-such, and to be yanked out of that is jarring. At least to me. Needs to be grander.
That said, I'm happy you and I'm sure many others enjoy those instances. I love the game, and if creature play brings more people in to it, then I'll gladly drop the difficulty and find enjoyment in it!

Actually it was Starfleet Command 1. SFC 2 was centered around the ISC Invasion.

I play another game that does the whole play as another character aspect & that is Final Fantasy XIV. However, when they do it, they usually tell you in advance that you will be playing as another character. They also don't water down the difficulty when they do it, but there are points that it might be a little difficult since they tend to throw in stuff that you may not be used to doing. Since the game relies on the trinity Tank, DPS, healer roles, people may find that they have difficulty if they are put into a role that they do not usually have much practice with. For me, my bane is being put into a healer situation.
Actually, what makes me laugh is that not only are we forced to play another character entirely, but when it is a mirror version of ourselves, it is a extremely weaker version of us. And to my mind it's no wonder the mirror universe is always gonna fail in the end at everything it does. I mean seriously, if it came to a one on one fight between two versions of ourselves, who in the world would even think for a second that our mirror universe self would win. The comparison is so stark that I almost feel bad for my "other self". What would be better, and far more interesting and immersive, is if our mirror universe selves were stronger, and had more abilities to use. I mean really, it's not rocket science...
i hate the missions where i`m forced to use other ships, not because they are bad but because of the effect they have when it`s over. every time and i mean EVERY time, my traits are all messed up for ALL my ships on that toon. i have to re-add all the traits that are suddenly missing for every ship and no, i can`t use my loadouts because it overwrites them. needless to say, i avoid these missions like the plague they are.
I haven't had any loadout problems in the current one or in the old Renegade's Regret, I just am not fond of the swap most of the time (though the ones in this arc are not so bad, the mirror thing is an interesting technique as long as they don't overuse it).
I think I see where they are going with it this time and am curious to see if I am right, so I am willing to wait and see how it plays out before deciding if I like it or not. On the other hand, the sparse power tray is irritating at times already.
First, that damm bloody Colosseum mission, I don't play this game to go trapsing half-way across the map up a hill to get a few bits of trees, then back down the hill and up another one on the other side, it's annoying and I wish every recruitment campaign didn't force you to play this particular mission, it takes ages to complete, it's boring and it's a running simulator, all you do is run here, now run there and now back to here.
Missing uniform pieces: As in ones where logically you would think they would have the uniform options but they don't, for example, Fed off-duty has the shorts from the terrans, but for some reason the off-duty bare-chest options don't include the matching top parts like their uniforms do. There's also the fact that both Catians and Ferasians have a bare-foot/paw option in their off-duty outfits, but unlike the Gorn, this option is missing from their regular uniforms.
For the Inquisitor, at minimum he should have weapons similar if not better than ours. The entire point of the Terrans are they were pirates, they stole weapons and ships and took the best technology for themselves (making sure Starfleet Command and the Emperor got their cut of course).
First Appearance Kirk had the Tantalus Field, Archer had the location of the Defiant, Empress Hoshi had the Defiant copied and produced, Picard stole the Dreadnaught Enterprise and made incursions into the prime universe to steal tech, Marshall Janeway ripped Borg Tech out of the borg and implanted it in herself...
If anything the Inquisitor version of our characters should have the best of our equipment/kits/modules...and even a surprise or two. Hes supposed to be the Terran Empires Inquisitor, the whole Empires, he shouldnt have junk that our prime universe captain wouldnt even give a BoFF
