Nope. Thinking of trying with ARC but I don't think that's the problem.
Don't like the ARC launcher, just takes up room and buggy. With the ARC launcher my sound goes away, Steam Launcher everything works, play STO and Neverwinter on Steam only. ARC this the ONLY launcher that takes away my sound.
"Nuke the entire site from orbit--it's the only way to be sure"
same for me, since the patch... black screen, i ear the music and i have the mouse icon, but black screen. killed the process and restarted multiple time, but still black screen, i hope the patch of today will solve the problem
Same issue here, and I just got lifetime membership. Kind of regretting it right now
You run Windows 7 and you just bought a lifetime membership?
If so, you just wasted some money.
There is a patch this morning, it's not announced on the forum, but the Launcher shows maintenance this morning (the 12th.) so that might resolve this issue. Either way, it's a band aid to get you to February when Windows 7 systems will no longer work anymore.
The new explosion sfx might use a call to some of the newer features, which in turn might trick the compiler into compiling everything for the new standards and not include the legacy library stuff or something. Or they may have compiled the wrong branch and got next year's build instead of the one they were intending to. It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened on a large project like a game, especially one with a team working remotely.
I can get on today. All graphics settings were changed to 'off' or minimum. Had to bump things back up to see anything. Seems they're re-setting core graphics.
I can assure you it is not the new destruction fx's. I have seen it on my ship or ships so I know it is not an issue. Now I have a 1070TI FTW3 (whatever was the highest FTW #) and since the igpu is disabled in bios that means the gpu is primary only nor secondary. So if issue probably would be a cpu issue.
To the moderator, why was a message encouraging players to ask for 2 more days deleted. That leaves me deeply concerned about the fact you silenced the communities chance to simply request for 2 more days added. No excuse for deleting it.

It wasn't a simple message. You tried to make a petition, which are not allowed on these forums as are discussions about moderation. The post wasn't deleted as it's still showing not only on your profile, but as of this time, it's still on the first page of this forum. If you have an issue, privately message the moderator who closed it.

I play on linux + proton. It's working atm. I think it was mac support they stopped. Linux has always been unofficial. But there are some bugs involved you might need to get used to. Linux has it's own problems. But people on them have usually played with them so long they forget they are there Or have become used to dealing with them. Although they can be annoying.
It will not be hassle free. Although some stuff has gui instalation for video drivers and things to make it easier. I use Fedora 34 atm. It has most of the easy stuff. Not sure on other versions.
Proton has been stable since like march when the pandemic started(or that is when I started using it over regular wine solutions?!). And it may be for the foreseeable future. But always assume linux can break at any moment with any update. Just to be safe.
If it is going to break in the short term it might do so in January when they drop the Win7 support (though I hope not). I don't know if Proton uses the Win7 DX kludges level that Wine used a few years ago or whether it uses something like DXVK which is based on a later DX version.

I use the Window button to click on my Edge browser, then use the Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task Manager. When the browser window is up, the Task Manager isn't hidden behind the blank black loading screen of STO.
Then I just go and shut off STO and then use the Start button on the Arc launcher.
Occasionally there's a second Black Screen... but it usually starts up with now problem after the second Black Screen.
After today's patch with a fix for FL 11 I got BLACK SCREEN NOW.
I never had black screen before, but now I got it.
I am updating DIRECTxD to latest version so hopefully it will fix it.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium
How come your fix broke it?
I want an explanation please
I often don't see this after patches any more, however strangely enough it always ONLY appears after I freshly reboot or power off my system! Not quite sure why though, I wait for everything to get started up. Yet I have to always CTRL-Alt-Del then terminate it, then it launches FINE on the 2nd attempt!
Getting black screens on 3-Win 7 Pro machines,2 of mine plus my brothers.
I also run Windows 10 for the longest time, and in October upgraded to Windows 11. Still I see the Black Screen's, yet only after a reboot or fresh power on. *Puzzled Look*

Yeah, this has been the workaround since that dreaded black screen started showing up months ago.
I don't always get one, generally it happens after a maint or a computer reboot. Killing the client and restarting it always works, so far.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
Whatever fix they did for it a couple patches ago seems to have broken again, I am getting that black screen again and it sometimes takes using the Kill-restart workaround more than once to get into the game so it is worse than it was in the summer.

Dont think that either...they messed up in their end..

Getting greyed out Transwarp button on multiple characters but for a variety of different missions now.
Sorry, couldn't resist

Time to upgrade or switch to Linux + Proton.

Latest versions of proton uses DXVK, BTW
