So if you buy a fleet corvette and upgrade it, then switch characters and buy a second, it will automatically be upgraded.
The token applies all three upgrades, no need to make a choice.
Does this include LOBI and Lockbox ships like the Kelvin D7 and Disco Flight Deck Connie? ... Use on one toon and any other copies of that ship class on other toons will unlock as well?

That one is asked and answered by Kael in this thread: yes, it works on any ship.

The extra trait is per ship, unlike the fleet Research Lab upgrade that is for the captain.
If you have a Gagarin with 5 Traits and you use an Experimental Upgrade, you now have 6 traits.. on the Gagarin. If you swap ships to a non X ship you will still have 5 traits on that ship. The extra trait slot is on a per ship basis, upgrading a ship upgrades it account wide.
So... its just another layer of passive?
Because saying Starship Trait in my mind associates with things like Reciprocity and Emergency Weapon Cycle. If its another passive, that would be more another level of Mastery.
So you buy a T5 so you can buy a T5F so you can buy a T5F-U so you can buy a T6 so you can buy & gamble for a T6 promo so you can buy a T6F so you can buy a T6 legendary bundle so you can buy a T6F-U so tomorrow you can buy a T7 so you can buy & gamble......
Maybe they can do something like this for T7. Instead of selling us new scaling ships. Just let us add the next tier of scaling to what we have. Throw in some new ship model variants and I'd be willing to throw $10 a ship for a T7 upgrade with some new ship costume unlocks.

Um..
What?
It adds an extra starship trait slot.. so you can slot an extra starship trait.
My initial reaction, I'll go back & read others' posts for thoughts I missed, is I really like this idea & am looking forward to it immensely!
I like that Cryptic is making use of the deserted offering of the Ultra Rare Phoenix tier & I like Cryptic adding the zen option too & imo not at a price-gouging cost. What am I missing lol?
I'd think this is great for anyone that pilots a T5U &/or T6 ship that is their "favorite" but doesn't quite match the upper echelon of pew pew or tankiness.
Also, pre-thanks to Cryptic for the free "X" token to boot too!
Could this be regarded as a "creeping" towards a T7 absent the title? Sure it is possible, but if it allows me to pilot an older favorite ship of mine, or a couple/few, at yet a better proficiency I don't mind at all since it is mostly PvE anyways.
This is somewhat the better most exciting news for STO in awhile imo.
Now to read the comments to dash my dreams about how this might be good lol.
oh, you get 2 for an UR. Rock on. I think I have 6UR and only 9 ships I care about.

I am not sure what's confusing you here, sorry.
Pretty simple actually. Because Starship Traits are generally a CAPTAIN thing. Not something you slot onto starships like gear. All I want to know is if this is another mastery level or if it is somehow the ability to slot something like Reciprocity on a ship. The Blog doesn't exactly explain what it means. Just what we get. Device slot, self explanitory. Universal Console Slot, self explanitory. Starship Trait slot... uh isn't that a Captain thing?
Unlike going up to T7, there is no addition to bridge officer or specialist powers.
Unlike going up to T7 you don't have to buy new ships.
These function similar to what would be T7, but don't come with the huge drawback of making your current ships obsolete. This is a much better approach then going T7.
You said it yourself: "With these tokens, you can add a Device, Console and Trait slot to a T6 ship effectively making them a T7 in all but name."
As for the rest, I'm sorry you interpreted my question as "rude" and "snarky". It wasn't.
But I guess I should just be grateful that this time he remembered that this, and not the subReddit, is the official forum.
Not agreeing with someone doesn't give you the right to be an TRIBBLE.
Ci sono tre tipi di giocatori:
- quelli a cui non va mai bene niente... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che sono talmente imbesuiti da credere a qualunque cosa i dev dicano, perfino che la luna è fatta di formaggio... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che credono a quello a cui è giusto credere, sono d'accordo con quello con cui è giusto essere d'accordo e sono critici con quello che non va;

I understand your confusion. Will this extra starship trait slot show up under Captain Traits, or will it show up in the Ship menu for your ship?
If it shows up under the Captain Traits, that ALL your T6X ships will use the same extra trait.
If it shows up in the ship menu (you can slot a trait directly to the ship), then EACH T6X ship can have a DIFFERENT extra trait.
Of course the discussion is academic. We will find out when it releases.
Those Ships are no T7 as a Tier upgrade would include another BOff power so yes those Ships are T6-U or T5-U+.
Also Ship trait slots that are available on a Ship to Ship basis are a pita without the option to save trait layouts with the Ship
a feature that should have been in the game since the addition of ship layouts.
On the flip side why even bother buffing player space power if the release cadence for new content is so slow for years?
To throw out a mission or two every year is not a incentive for existing players to again and again rebuy what they all ready have imho to replay the same content over and over that has no challenge attached and is nothing more then horde mode all the time.

The slot itself isn't a Captain thing, you're right. It's a trait slot that you will only have access to while flying an upgraded ship. HOWEVER, you can slot any space trait, like Reciprocity, into it like normal.
Yeah it's easy to get confused about the trait slot as we're used to that being a captain thing.
But it's pretty simple once you forget about that. The trait slot that comes with the upgrade token, can be used whenever you fly the ship that you used that token on.
If I apply a token to a T6 Alita, I'll be able to use 6 starship traits while flying a Alita on any character.
If I switch to a Vesta, I can only use 5 traits. Until I also apply a token to the Vesta.
(I'm afraid it's not the case, but I do hope variants of the same ship - like the Brigid and Esquiline - are all included when applying a token.)

Odds are it will function just like the old T5U upgrade tokens. It applies to the particular variant you use it on. So using the Sovereign family as an example, applying it to the Vizir Command Assault Cruiser would not apply it to the Archon Intel Assault Cruiser.
Ok.. If I say, bought a t5 nova and upgraded it to T-5U and then applied this upgrade... it is supposed to apply to all fleet t5 novas to the account? Even without buying the t-5U again? If so the T5 Nova crowd might have some kind of joy in this.
Makes me hope they later on implement upgrade tokens for T4 ships and below that do not have T5/T5-U/T6 refits. Such as the NX (not the refit with the tos-esque lump on the bottom).
I sincerely hope they do one of their quality passes on the Nova and update it's textures to make it look like it should. That plus being able to upgrade it to an experimental might give it enough to take some of the sting out of the fact that they adamantly refuse to give it a T6 Variant.
Just wait, next year they'll let the upgrade tokens add a weapon slot, extra hanger or an Experimental Weapon!
And that would be fine, if they feel there is a need to keep upgrading ships, I prefer they do it this way where you incrementally upgrade your current ship instead of what they did with T6 where you had to buy all new ships. That was not appreciated.. this is much better IMO.
Are the faction-specific copies of a ship considered the same class? Eg, are all three "Temporal Science Vessels" the same class, or are the Verne, Qul'poH, and Sui'Mor three different classes? It'll make cross-faction ships a far more economical option if the faction-specific ships are NOT considered the same class.

As I currently understand it, it will show up in both, but will only be accessible when you are flying a ship you have upgraded.
The slot, as I understand it, will remember the trait you used last time in that specific ship, and apply it.

Was coming back to edit after re-reading & remembering that lol dang it dashed dreams once again
My Romulan is still waiting for the Scimitar to have fifty-two disruptor banks and twenty-seven photon torpedo launchers.
You're right I did. And then I thought about it a little more and changed my mind. I should have been more clear on that, my apologies.
I sincerely hope they do one of their quality passes on the Nova and update it's textures to make it look like it should. That plus being able to upgrade it to an experimental might give it enough to take some of the sting out of the fact that they adamantly refuse to give it a T6 Variant.

Thanks for the clarifications, Kael, they definitely help.
I'm not keen on yet more limited-time-offer phoenix nonsense or tier 7 ships, but there are worse ways to have handled this.
