Misleading console description but they wont give your money back

I am currently working on a science drain build and came across the Voth Bastille Temporal Science Vessel.
Reading the description i was intrigued by the console which you get with the ship... Enhanced Aceton Field Generator. drains power from near by ships cores. Would fit perfectly with my build.
The description for this console reads "it may be equipped in any console slot on any ship"
being short of the required credits to buy the ship i have charged cash, bought and sold keys to get the credits necessary.
Now having bought the ship i go to put the console on my ship of choice only to read the separate description directly from the console "This console can be equipped in any console slot. It may only be equipped on any Voth Ship"

So having spent actual money to buy this i have been totally mislead by you cryptic. the description of the ship in the exchange clearly misrepresents the true versatility of the console.

Arc support have responded to my e-mail and even tho the console description is clearly wrong until you unpack the ship there is somehow nothing they can do regarding this.

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS.

Please all take note of this and their response. Clearly we consumers are of no importance to them and it's not there fault if something is wrongly described.

I have provided proof to them via images of the misleading description of the console. However I am apparently not entitled to anything at all.

So even tho it's their mistake not mine I can kiss my money goodbye and have a ship and console which doesn't work with this build.

Personally I think this is an absolute disgrace and highly unprofessional.

Be lucky if I touch their games again now after this.

Please everyone be very careful when purchasing anything through these jokers. Check wiki first as they are more accurate even tho it's not their game.

Past that statement is there anything else that would suggest it is able to be equipped on any ship.

The statement at the bottom of the first image which says "Equipping two consoles of this Set..." ought to have encouraged further research by you prior to spending the cash. There is ample evidence a mouse click or two away which would have prevented this issue.

I've done this exact same thing in this game because I saw what I hoped to see. Instead of what the game actually presents. It was a lesson. Expensive, but still just a lesson. As to attempts to mislead you? There are spelling and grammar errors past numbering all throughout this game. What makes you think Cryptic was out to rob you blind personally?

Does it matter beyond that point? After that, point, you can't sell it back on the exchange...so whatever it says after that doesn't matter.

As checking before purchasing it would have mattered when read "When equipping two piece consoles gain Voth cloak." Just as with other sets up until recently where you could virtually put any consoles for example: the Mogai/Valdore/Morrigu warbirds console Ionized particle beam that was limited only to those warbird types are now able to be put on any Romulan ship or the Assault cruiser consoles that allow the assault cruisers to battle cloak are still somewhat limited to what they can be equipped on.

I've flagged Kael about this problem. Based on your screenshots, the tooltip does indeed appear to be misleading.

There is a gamepedia site for star trek online and it typically does have most consoles available with full details for those who wish to check ahead of time what you are interested in purchasing.

Well Cryptic, no one can say I didn't give you a chance to resolve this matter.
I have now submitted a complaint to the ASA regarding false advertising.
I still live in the hope that you will reach out apologise and resolve this matter.

It's not false advertising, you got what you paid for, a Voth Bastille Temporal Science Vessel.

    Of cause its false advertising.
Its advertising that the console is a lot more versatile than it actually is and so no, I didn't get what I paid for.
If the description was accurate then I wouldnt have bought it

This does point out an obvious and ongoing problem with any text written, whether blogs, announcements, or in-game stuff, that proof-reading by multiple people would go a long way.

Something I always do before buying something pricey off of the Exchange is, look up the consoles and anything it might come with before buying. It only would have taken a few seconds to look up the console, which probably would have got you this page.

I know what your saying, it would solve the problem, but why should you have to check an external website before making purchases.
Any professional company should make sure descriptions are accurate.

Well... Technically they bought keys to sell for EC and then used that EC to buy what they didn't research enough. What is there to refund? Zen was sold and used to buy keys. Transaction complete! What is done with those keys and things purchased in EC are not actually items sold by any purchasable currency from the C-Store.

I am in no way defending Cryptic/PWE, but it is up to the buyer to do their research and understand how the system works. Stats and nerfs happen regularly in STO. Making sure they aren't buying something obsolete and or comparing it to similar consoles is not a bad thing.

  • croupboicroupboi Member Posts: 76 Arc User
Stat changes and nerfs are one thing. But the item not being what is described is misrepresentation, and so false advertising.
I think they should re box the ship, delete the ship if they want, would just like my ec back so could actually get something useful that actually performs as advertised.
And just as one small point. One of the moderators has agreed its misleading and has been flagged for kael.
  • jcswwjcsww Member Posts: 6,831 Arc User
On that principle, then everyone who bought one of those C-Store BO's, like myself, that were advertised through a blog, that they would be made account wide and then PWE changed their minds, should all be entitled to the cost of those BO's so we could repurchase them. I am not against that but that is a direct purchase from the C-Store and we all know that isn't going to happen.

I agree with @westmetals . I know the internet is a vile place and people are quick to - for whatever reason - scold the person seeking advice. But it is ridiculous to claim that, because a inofficial third party site would have helped, Cryptic is not to blame here. The description is plain wrong. There's is no malevolence here, it's not a 'rip-off' but a oversight, but Cryptic still is at fault and should at least repack the ship.

Repacking the ship would be great if they did that. At least then I could sell it to get some of my ec back.
Unfortunately I still have not heard anything.
  • angrytargangrytarg Member Posts: 11,009 Arc User
Since your EC went to another player it'd be wrong for them to undo the trade itself, the player you 'bought' from did nothing wrong. Repacking the ship sounds easy enough methinks.

    Update.

The ASA in uk cant pursue this because in US so have directed me to Advertising Self-Regulation Council (ASRC), a division of the Better Business Bureau.
