Now that so many non-carriers have 2 hangers, I wonder if 'true' carriers will get something to make them worthwhile? Supposedly they gave up 2 weapon slots for hangers, now that's just a pointless thing. I'd just slap 2 more hangers on for a simple fix, but got no clue if that's technologically possible for the game.
Maybe they'll...
just give the T6 carriers 2 more weapons slots or maybe the experimental weapon slot like escorts? That'd be cool.
make a bunch of new powerful hanger pets that only work on carriers?
let carrier hangers launch 2x the number of ships vs non-carriers?
There's plenty of things that could make 'true' carriers get a much needed buff. I just hope Cryptic thinks they need it too.
But aren't these carriers going to be sci based anyway? Sci ships generally have 3/3 weapon slots so it doesn't make a difference really.
Sci-based carriers also lack the 5 sci console slots and the ship mastery of science ships that amplify exotic damage. The only role for them that I see is drain and debuff to allow pets to do slightly more damage.
I've yet to battle-test and polish a sci based carrier solo in difficult elite patrols but I already do have concerns about whether it can handle it in its support-debuff tank role while lacking mobility and weapons in exchange for one extra hangar bay and ship-unique pets that aren't significantly better than generic pets.

I hope these carrier ships add something new to the table for carriers & these aren't just prettier pixels, if the 4 ships are just the latter then I'll pass.
It'd still be good for the Romulans, at least. I think the only dedicated carrier they have right now is the T'Laru, which is rare as hen's teeth.
I for one am not a fan of the T'laru for a few of reasons: (1) it is a lockbox ship that is hard to find on the exchange, (2) the seating is not ideal for me (I hate ships with only one LtCmd seat), and (3) I am not a fan of intel ships.
Since these new ships are C-store, I am already happy, and I can hope the seating will be better on these ships.
What? Thrai doesn't count because it only has one hangar?
Thrai is not a true carrier, and it is the ugliest ship the Republic has.
And today we see a post about the Jem'Hadar Vanguard Support Carrier. Again, it looks like there are swarms as well as regular fighters. Only the Rom carrier has not appeared yet.
Hopefully this is a sign that these new carriers will have something special. Built-in swarms of a particular type of fighter?

Hard to tell from those videos, due to the camera angles & darkness, but I wonder if "support carrier" will launch groups of 5 fighters instead of 3. (hmm, but that would take new fighter UI boxes)
Tier 6 Fek'ihri carrier for this coming winter? Maybe? I figure if they're gonna do the work to revamp the very concept of carriers in STO, only makes sense to take advantage of it...

What on earth are you talking about? There has been a T6 Fek'iri Carrier since Winter of 2019 and it's already one of the games better carriers. It was the Winter Event for last year.

Interesting. Another frigate-sized ship seemingly in addition to the hangar bays, though it seems only one for the non-Jem'Hadar vessels. Jem'Hadar are only ones shown with markers as to which frigate-like pet is which (Alpha and Beta), two have clearly shown one frigate, and the Klingon Carrier might have one on the other side that you can just see a tiny bit of (Twitter was so low quality I thought it was a compression error, but Facebook is clearer, and the green line past the far nacelle might be another ship.)
The fighters not animating as coming out of the hangars on the bottom is a bit annoying, so hopefully that's just an early version that'll be fixed.

The video shows two groups of 6 fighters... which is the number that every carrier can field.
But they don't launch all bunched up like that and all at one time...it's a swarm
It goes fighter...fighter...fighter and they all act individually not in a group

We could be looking at the first widely available squadron pets. Until the stats come out though... its just speculation. But I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to have Squadron pets be more accessable considering how many Disco Connies and D7s exist with their squadron pets.
I admit I don't use mine on my Connie. Having more fun with Elite Class Cs and the 12 Aceton 3s they come with.

Fighters launch out the front of a carrier... Frigates out the side... so what you may be looking at is a frigate-equivalent squadron of normal-sized fighters, rather than a fighter-equivalent squadron of extra-tiny drones.

But there are plenty of ships that launch fighters from the side or frigates front or rear...there is no specific programming that says one or the other, it's a ship by ship basis

Yea. The Atlas launches her pets out the back. Doesn't matter what they are. And yes she can launch frigates if you have access to the Cardi Yukawa frigates. They aren't bound to the Cardi ships.

Ok, I can buy that, but there are several reasons to suspect we're looking at frigate pets rather than fighter pets, but done as a "squadron" the way that the tactical flyer squadrons were done on the Donnie.
First of all, in each of the four promo animations, we're seeing the pets using the identical models of the basic fighter pets for that faction/species: Caitian Stalkers, Jem'Hadar Fighters, Romulan Scorpions, and Klingon To'Duj.. for them to make a squadron pet of those fighters they either need to shrink them down to about 1/4 size, or make the pet take up proportionally more space to contain six of them. The romulan promo animation is a close-up of the ship as the pets launch, and they don't seem to be smaller than the normal scorpions.
When the Donnie and D7 promo ships came out they talked about how they worried about fielding so many models at once might lead to performance loss (which many complained it did anyway), and that to combat that they had made the individual models considerably more simple than usual hangar pets. If these were fighter-equivalents they'd be fielding 72 copies of their normal, full-complexity models rather than the 24 models that would be used if they are frigate-equivalents.
I'm certainly not invested in either option being the case... I'm down for fighters or frigates, though I hope they end up being something you can use on other ships. I am, however, surprised the "wing of fighters" as a frigate pet hasn't been done until now - it's not like people pick different targets for their individual fighters.
We'll actually find out probably tomorrow when the stats Blog should drop.

Imagine T'varo hangar pets equiped with hyper plasma torpedos and destabilized plasma torpedos!! Anything less would be a shame.
Matter of opinion. Also the Nijil MW Cruiser says hello.
No idea how to link it properly.

That is a FINE looking ship!

I agree. That front section makes it look very mighty. A bit similar to the Klingon Cleave dreads.

That Romulan Carrier looks SICK!!

Nevermind me.

True, let's see what's new with them.. i'm going to get them anyway.. but i want to see what's new..

Yeah. Do you think the fighters will be called Stalker Swarms, Scorpion Swarms, etc?

Hard to say...if they follow what the Discovery ones they may be called Tactical something or other? Maybe Swarm or Squadron?

Reminds me of an Erebus(EVE) with wings.
