As I understand it from what I read, after the design streams are done the designs will be posted to the website and we'll be able to vote on them at that time. So not being able to watch the stream live won't mean you can't vote. Participating during the stream would be another story. (Never used Twitch before so I don't know exactly how it works, yet.) I may not be able to watch the streams live either, due to cellular congestion. Though I'll have to give it a try.
  • A new ship with phaser arrays along the z,-z axis would be nice. The new phaser arrangement would provide normal phaser operations in a 180 degree arc from the top of the primary hull around the middle hull, the section that separates the upper and lower hulls of the primary hull, and then to the lower primary hull.

Phaser arrays would still be present on the upper and lower primary hull but would only have 25 emitters each. Each of the close in phaser arrays would have their own energy network that is tide in with the primary phaser arrays for energy transfer if needed. The TRIBBLE have 5x the phaser output of the normal arrays, but would have a reduced effective range of 75k kilometers.

The idea of using the Impulse Engines to power phaser systems is expecting the old Borg to play Old Maid with you while serving tea. That set up just doesn't work ant longer. As such the phaser arrays should have their own energy systems that are are based on the processes of the impulse engines and aux. fusion generators that provide energy for the phaser arrays, but without any bleed off due to use of the impulse engines. Keeping the energy systems that power the phaser the same while keeping them separate will create harder hitting phaser shots while not draining necessary impulse power as well as not losing phaser power due to a hit on the impulse drive or losing the impulse drive due to an overload in the phaser arrays.

If the Federation doesn't upgrade to use this new design first, another race that has been placated but seeks vengeance will definitely have its ego boosted with the new weapons technology.

This type of technology is actually in use aboard a starship that I am designing called the U.S.S. Solare.

Excellent point about the Lukari ships being very similar & I mostly liked how Cryptic handled that process.

I forget about those ships since I missed out on the event & don't have any of the 2 or 3 Lukari ships.

Which reminds me though, I'm not a fan of Cryptic connecting an event ship to a Store bought bundle.

Well over the last couple of months I think 2 out of 7 or 8 live streams went well & uninterrupted repeatedly then cancelled because of. Maybe Cryptic figured out the problem. The last live stream was just recorded prior & then made available for all to watch. I'm guessing that viewing any of the live streams won't be a prerequisite for voting so one can miss it all then vote if they want.

This is really awesome. Risian ship for the Risa event, science vessel to fill in the gap of Risian ships, and community selection of design.

Already looking forward to Risa this year assuming the non-stop baseball theme has been fully saturated to be replaced with really anything else. No denying there's more to Summer, Beaches, and vacations than non-stop baseball.

T6 Risian corvette was many years in the wishlist, and that really didn't disappoint with 2 variants, awesome design, and kitbash options with the classic.

Well first off, lets all note one thing here. They aren't starting exactly what the ship is. So for all those saying Luxury Liner, this could be that very thing. Or it could be a vorgon science ship. Or one of the older Loluhnat ships. Remember, they did say they wanted to do a T6 version of them all.

I just dislike the fact they are putting this into the livestreams. I work during every livestream, as I am sure many others do as well, so we get excluded. Give a second method for us to participate please.

You can watch the video afterwards when/if they post it to youtube, thus allowing those that can't make the live stream a chance to add their thoughts via the youtube comment section.

So let us just bring this to @ambassadorkael#6946 attention. So he can consider the idea and whether or not to pass it on up the line.

Thank you for flagging him, not sure the level of interaction during the livestreams (never been able to go to them due to work), but anything is better than nothing.

Honestly, I kinda wish they did this one similar to the way they handled the Jup and Lukari design a ship things. Just this time add a level of voting to determine which type of ship, and basic layout, then go into looks.

Wish I could participate at all. Every one of the streams is scheduled on a Wednesday and during business hours in my time zone. I'm not able to be online while at work... couldn't they at least have varied up the times and days of the week a bit more?

Just take your phone with you when you go take a "dump", which just so happens to coincide exactly with the streams.

    For over an hour...that's reasonable....

Not to mention that assumes I have a job where a) I'm allowed to have my phone on me and b) I can take a bathroom break whenever the hell I feel like it. Neither of which is true.

When I said "not able to be online", I did not just mean the computer. Idiot.

Hahahahahah! That response was well-deserved :smiley::smiley:

OK, so, to be a true Science Vessel, it must have -

    a) 5x Science modules
    b) Secondary Deflector
    c) Commander Science BOFF seat
    d) Turn rate of at least 10 and 12 is better

Beyond that, I'm rather unconcerned about appearance, as long as it is not too big. What vitally concerns me is the remainder of the BOFF seating. If we are going to have specialist BOFF seats, please let them be useful like Intelligence or Temporal, and not some silly nonsense like MW.

Science Vessel is good news. I still vote for Yellow Science Vessel Submarine. (Of course, it doesn't have to be only available in yellow).
I already found a TOS era design:
    ocean-research-submarine-draws-attention-from-tourists-on-dock-in-AX510R.jpg

I wouldn't insist on that one. Though if they go that route; I would want at least two or three different sets of nacelles, one Connie Style, one Galaxy Style, one Sovereign or DSC 25th centuy Style.

There are cooler designs. I think a real traditional military submarine design adopted for space could be interesting.
    maxresdefault.jpg

I think I would add some section to the hull with some form of nacelles to get a more space-worthy look, though. Maybe attached at the ventral front area as some kind of extended fin turning into a compact nacelle. Maybe making it a bit more shark-like overall.

But also some other research submarines could be interesting.

Even fictional ones, like from Subnautica:

You might want to reevaluate your opinion:
Miracle Worker is by many considered the best available Spec for a ship.
    1. It gives your ship an extra universal console slot. That means you could have 6 tactical consoles or 6 science consoles (depending on the primary focus of your ship)
    2. 2) It grants you access to at least two damage buff powers that grant bonus (also called "Cat2") damage, Narrow Sensor Band and Mixed Armaments Synergy.
Undoubtedly, Temporal and Intelligence aren't that bad either. Temporal grants you more access to exotic damage powers, which is nice for a Science Ship, and that includes some Spatial Anomalies, which is nice for Spore-Infused Anomalies. Intelligence gives you Override Subsystems and also a Spatial Anomaly with Ionic Turbulence and is a Spore-Infused Anomaly boost.

Of course, talking about the innate ship abilities is probably worthless since event ships usually are not full spec ships, but in bridge officer potency, Mircale Worker cannot be discounted. Mixed Armament Synergy has good benefits for any science torpedo build, since you probably are goin to slot an omni or turret in the rear arcs to get some set bonuses and you won't use rear-mounted guns much - and a turret or omni is one of the easiest ways to trigger the Mixed Armament benefits since they're basically always firing.

I know what I would love to see- A sleek, asymmetrical ship design based upon a Pacific islands proa, but keeping with the design aesthetics hitherto established by the other vorgon ships.

It would have a larger main hull/body and a smaller outrigger to one side or another - perhaps attached to the main hull via two booms but hinged in such a way at the connection to allow it to shift from starboard to port during manoeuvres. The main body would be part nacel and so would the outrigger with the outrigger also sporting a secondary deflector to keep it in line with it's being a science vessel.

    Please consider this?

Given the new Picard Show and the heavy focus on Romulans. I hope they do a romulan based design for it this year, but it could be interesting to see what they do with the ship designs.

I'm hoping at least one of the constructions goes with a more vertical than the typical horizontal construction just for distinction. I think two of the Herald ships & maybe one of the Elachi went that more vertical route but cannot think of any others.

There are a lot of vertical design ships in the KDF actually, most of the Nausicaan ships are vertically oriented and the Fek'iri ship from the winter event is almost a vertical design with its long whiskers and "masts" hanging off the bottom and that big tower in the back.

They are not very efficient in an in-setting sense since it cuts the ship up into a lot of small, narrow decks with a lot of load on the turbolifts or whatever, but they are rather distinctive looking. The Vandal (it is the sort of sunfish-looking Nausicaan ship) is one of the few low level ships I use anymore when leveling in fact.

I want the Luxury Cruiser updated. :)

For those who haven't watched the stream (live or otherwise) they did mention that the Luxury Cruiser T6 got bumped, so that'll probably be next year's summer ship.

Was interesting to see the design process, and the ship design is interesting. Before he deleted and filled in the upper hull, I was thinking a flying bridge toward the rear (corvette style) would work.

Didn't expect anyone would be concept designing using 3DS Max, but it made me think that if they do another of these in the future, maybe they could have people download Wings 3D, play around with it for a while, and optionally use that for basic concept ship designing. Wings 3D is a rather simplistic program compared to 3DS Max, but in my experience is easy to play around with and capable of exporting into formats you can import in other programs. And it's designed around solid object modeling, so rather then start with a plane you can start with a solid object and do other stuff like extruding without having to make holes in the object first. On the other hand, I don't think it's virtual mirror works with multiple separate objects, but when used it's automatic and instantanious. It's also free. I've spent many hours experimenting with ship designs in Wings 3D and even tried importing some into games.

This is Tacofangs making concept art. I don't know what they use for the finished ship designs.

At any rate we're not seeing the actual ship model being built, this is just the concept art stage.

I watched the recording o this on youtube. I have to say, I kind of do, kind of don't like the direction Taco went with it. IT left me with an overwhelming maybe overall.

However when @ambassadorkael#6946 mentioned an actual Science Carrier... I'll admit, I about started drooling.

Wonder what that would even be if it's Risian. All I've seen is the luxury liner and the racer. There's not much tying them together for the skin patterns. Otherwise -again just going by what we have to date- there's not a whole lot to go on as far as a unifying Risian mesh aesthetic. Loved the Vorgon though, particularly the carrier as it just screams, 'surf board.'

I hope for a 4/2 science ship; 3/3 is almost useless like most of the sci skills or torps have small firing angle (most skills have a 180°). + As we have a 360° "omni beam restriction" is not easy to create a variety of builds (most of the time, I use always the same gears).

A sci ship with the pilot abilities (not the boffs skills), would be totally awesome. temporal + pilot, I don't even know if something like that exists currently. :p

Since the Risan style so far seems to be starships that look like they can land in water (which makes sense for Risa) something loosely based on Planet Solar might be good, and the pontoons actually suggest Fed style nacelles:
