Used to have no problems with ARC....but it started glitching out on me and not start. Switched to using the .EXE file....never looked back. Playing the game is more important to me than what launcher I use, anyways.

Originally bought the game on steam but use the standalone because you still have to manually update the game via the launcher anyway, quirk with steam and most mmo's that use a launcher.
Only time I've used arc was to input those rare email freebie codes, other than that I don't see a point in having it.
Arc. I used to use the standalone on my old system, but it didn't work on my new WIN10 system so I went to ARC. I'd like to go back to standalone.
ARC and Steam actually use the Standalone launcher, which means they are both superfluous to requirements. There shouldn't be a reason why the Standalone doesn't work on your system. Try it in Safe Mode.

I have ARC installed on my Win10 laptop as despite having collected some legacy files it appears it's now the only way to install the game. Usually use a shortcut to the .exe
Nothing against ARC though as it seems to work just fine.
My tower Mac-Win7 still runs a legacy install without ARC whereas the Win10 drive on it again has ARC installed on it for the reason above.
Only reason I have ARC really is for Promo codes. Otherwise I run through Steam.
I don't think the ARC is actually needed for Promo codes, you can put the Promo codes directly in ARCgames web page accessible through any browser (but you will need to log to the site using your account). The adress is: https://www.arcgames.com/en/redeem/
I still use the Steam launcher, but only because I used Steam to install STO back in 2012 and when I move to a new gaming PC I just copy my existing Steam setup over to it.

Maybe not, but its more convenient as I don't have to fight with the Arc Defender sending me e-mail confirmation codes because "I'm logging in from a new computer" when its the same computer I've been using.
I invoke the Launcher directly from the folder that Steam had installed STO in. I only use Arc for a new Character to get the Khan Outfit.

Bought the Collector's Edition years ago, and never had a good reason to use Arc. I have only 1 game on Steam, and I loathe it...even though I had hoped it would become my favorite.

Sorry should have been more specific, and I posted in the tech thread anyway. When I run standalone, it works but it creates crash files on the desktop (even though it doesn't crash) not a problem. Arc works so its not really a problem.
i have both i just started playing 3 months ago the arch is good for giveaway codes plus it can tell me in code redemption code history if used one in case i have multi wins from game sites the stand alone i use because like most of use we have multi screens windows pc will crash if your watching a movie and have arc on cause of outdated flash micro media player which will crash the pc cause arc uses a outdated flash movie player for fire fox and google crome never gets updated

Awesome... I did not know about that page. I thought there should be one but I never found it. I used to log into my Cryptic account page but it is nothing now. Thanks for the link. I'll remove ARC today.
Both Arc and Steam, depending on what other game I'm playing that day. Since STO is getting to the point of login, do endeavors, maybe do the alt and doff routine, and log out to seek better things to do.

You load STO from the command console??, that's bold!

I think he means the platform not the Windows functionality. That would be bold and impressive on Windows.
