I'm not happy about the change to the Terran Sword, it's not like boffs are that important on the ground anyway, why not let us have some fun? But whatever, I'm not gonna go on a rant about it. Can we at least have a way to return multiples of them or let them be account bound instead of character bound? There's literally nothing I can do with five of them on one toon.

I believe the OP just highlighted the very reason for the change with the sword. Buying multiple copies to have a full away team's worth... then having your own personal army with the BOffs summoning minions.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I don't understand WHY it's a problem though. You can ALREADY summon an army of pets, why does the sword need to be the one thing boffs can't use?
I already run around with a pet swarm summoned by my Boffs.
but, realistically, it's more a fun thing and not that effective since boffs use the powers as soon as combat starts and don't use them when needed.
Exactly, when I tested it, it actually took my boff a good 5 min to use the power, and only then it was after everything was already dead. So if it's broken anyway, why does it matter if they can use it every now and again?

Probably because of the fact you actually CAN get multiple copies.
Unless you got hit with some kind of dupliation thing, you're only gonna have 1 Shard of Possibilities. Unless you're running a full team of Engineers with Drone summoning abilities, you're limited to what your Captain can bring in. But that sword? It is NOT a unique weapon, allowing you to outfit an entire team with it. And each one can summon 2 minions, which effectively triples your manpower. AND THEN you consider captain abilities/kit modules and BOff abilities and devices.
Now I know about having my own personal army. My Romulan Engie is set up as a Drone Master. Its fun. But throwing my Drone Master Build WITH a Shard on top of a full set of Terran Sword minions?
Players who know how to get the maximum bang for their minion buck would just have a field day with that. Not only that... imagine a full instance of a zone like Nimbus with all that going on. No one's gonna be able to get any kills because there's just too many minions. And that's just gameplay. How will all that affect the game itself in an instance like that? Might bog down until that instances dies.

If the change was made after you bought them, have you tried putting in a ticket to support to get your lobi back for the extras?
Adding a "max 1 per character" limitation AFTER letting a character buy and use 5 of them seems like a valid complaint since they are character-bound.

Ok, that's a good point. The others you can't have an endless number of. But a full team of melee boffs seems unwise.
They wont give you one, but Cryptic SHOULD refund you your Lobi since they changed it after you bought it... Rather shady business practice...

Its not shady with an MMO. Its a balance pass. "Stats subject to change."
If changing something in an MMO was "shady business practice"... then MMOs would be stagnant and never have expansions that change how things work.
Is it a "shady business practice" to stat squish when the numbers start inflating through the roof to a point you literally cap it out? Is it a "shady business practice" to change how an ability works if it is revealed to not be working as intended or is overly powerful for its level?
Because if it is... then I guess every MMO in existance should just shut down right now and refund everything to every player that ever played an MMO.
Fact of the matter is... if at the end of the day Cryptic decides some aspect of some ability or weapon is not working as it should or is overperforming... they are within their rights to actually do something about it.
Why do you think the DPS meta changes every few years? Because Cryptic changes things to try and balance the game.
Cannon Escorts used to be the big dogs of DPS, then something changed.
Beam: Fire at Will used to be the big gun for DPS, then something changed.
Physical Damage in space used to be dang near unstoppable, then they added Physical Damage Resistance.
Tricobalt Mines used to be able to kill the gate in Infected without taking out the Generators. Then they stat squished it because it was overperforming.
If all that is "shady business practice"... then what's the point of even working on an active MMO in the first place?

I don't have a stake in this fight, but your argument feels inappropriate in this circumstance. This was not a simple stat adjustment, this was a functional change. It feels more akin to selling a multiplayer game and then they change it to hotseat only. They didn't change the rate of fire or the duration, they changed the way it worked period.
Now, I'm perfectly willing to assume that this was just bad QA and it was never meant to work that way, but they released it like that and people bought it for the way it was presented. Changing it after the fact with no recourse is a bit shady
Regardless, it seems typical of them. Have something work or do something one way and then change it afterwards. This especially after a Lobi 50% off sale where ground weapons were 'dirt cheap' at 25 each.
The trouble is this 'for sale' (Lockbox, Lobi) stuff is never tested by the player base on Tribble because they they don't want to show their cards until they are ready to go.
I bought two, one for each of two Characters; my Discovery Character and my current maxed out everything 'Main'. Never even thought about or knew about this so-called 'exploit' or any other ever for that matter.
I would never equip my Away Team with all Melee weapons anyway. In fact hardly ever with a Melee weapon at all. I am remiss on summoning Away Teams with my Tactical Captains under normal circumstances.

I disagree. This is more like if they took away the Romulan captains' ability to fly T6 faction ships next week, after you'd bought one of them in the C-Store.
Except there the ship would still be usable if you created a Fed / KDF captain to fly the ship instead. Here the lobi is gone, but the character-bound swords are 100% useless.
*IF* they don't refund the lobi then it's shady indeed. If they do, no problem.
Please see the game's terms of service, anything can be changed at any time.
So you'd smile and say "no biggie" if they decided to "retire" your favorite T6 ship and remove it from the game completely? Or set your refined dil balance to 0?
Just because they're legally allowed to do something doesn't make it right.
As I said above, as long as they refund the lobi for the extra character-locked swords then I have no problem with them making a game balance or server load change.
So all of the collectable card games, miniatures games, golf clubs, and other gear and supplies for hobbies, they never become obsolete or ruled to be out of whack with the implemented playing field either huh?
Sometimes, you jump on a bandwagon and you get ride to the concert, sometimes you get a ride off the cliff.
In this case, players even got an ephemeral joy that others never will, which to some people is far more valuable that the pittance of Lobi involved.
I have no issue with Cryptic throwing a bone to people that bought multipes of this item, but to think it's some kind 'big deal' over such a small amount of real money and so few players is just another flismy excuse for a few people to rant about things they don't really understand, like how large code bases actually function.
This game is not a regulated utility that has direct influence over any sort life-threatening real-world issues.
All of the money and time spent here is for entertainment, it is not an investment that is guaranteed to hold any long term cash value.
If your time and money spent do not bring you the entertainment you desire, then move on, it really is not that hard.
So all of the collectable card games, miniatures games, golf clubs, and other gear and supplies for hobbies, they never become obsolete or ruled to be out of whack with the implemented playing field either huh?
Gear eventually becoming obsolete over time is a bit different from selling you something then a week later telling you it can no longer be used at all.
Also, it takes 10-12 lock box keys to get the lobi for one sword, so 40-48 keys for 4. $48 is more than pocket change.

$48 dollars is pocket change, I spend more one one meal of good sushi and you use the most expesive option, assuming someone acquired the Lobi for that purpose, etc.
See, it's all about different outlooks.
I have dropped over $1400 on this game and will drop more.
People got thier entertainment dollar out of the exchange or they did not, it is for each person to decide.
None of that means that Cryptic has done anything wrong or shady, they made a mistake that they fixed pretty quick.
If the individuals who feel they did not get the entertainment value they should have, they have recourse to contact support.
It really is that simple.
This idea that the game company is actively trying to TRIBBLE is customers is truly the most laughable thing I see on MMO forums.

Is why I'm upset. Ya the Swords can be still used as a melee weapon, but without the ability I basically spent about $20 for a shiny weapon skin since they're no better than a bat'leth.
Probably because of the fact you actually CAN get multiple copies.

Sure, those things are limited. But I can still give my away team 8 drones, 8 turrets, a Horta, 2 Tholian drones, an Elachi drone, and a dinosaur. Then *I* can can call down 2 clones of myself, a Romulan Security team, an Echo Papa drone, a Holo Decoy, an Iconian Turret and (if I'm lucky) 5 Security Escorts. Why would the occasional 2 extra Terran NPCs make that much of a difference?

They should have converted the Tholian Drone into a Kit Module rather than keep it as an expensive as hell consumable.
That I can agree with 100%. I have an alien Fed SCIENCE! captain using the Tholian / Nukara space set and (once I get around to it) flying a Tholian ship, and it would be nice to continue the theme on ground maps.
