Invisible torpedoes and death

atharun18999atharun18999 Member Posts: 66 Arc User
For many years, as I have payed this game off and on, one thing has consistently driven me crazy and it is dying to invisible enemy attacks. Mostly invisible torpedoes. i can be at 100% health and shields and engage and all of sudden a dead. Nothing will have seemingly hit me but when I look at the damage log it is almost always x torpedo hit you for x kinetic damage. In TFOs, in RAs, etc..

Can this please be fixed for once? I know I can;t be the only person who this happens to...

Not just you. I've been getting hit by salvo's of 50K+ many times, some doing even more than that. Not good.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

It has happened to me a lot too.

Lol ... Invisitorps have been a "thing" in STO for longer than most can remember. Some say it's an "urban legend" with no proof, yet pretty much everyone who's done a Borg RA or TFO "knows" that invisitorps are real.

Sadly they are just one of the "fun" WAI things in STO.
Oh, hoho hohhhhh, Oh,, hoho, hohhhhh

It is seriously frustrating to go into an engagement with that happening.as frequently as it happens it is a serious dampener on enjoyment.

There is a bug which happens more often in some content then others like ISA. This bug means every so often kinetic damage is doing triple and sometimes quad damage before crit hits and then the crit hit doubles it again for both player and NPC damage. That is what is killing people from 100% health in 1 shot.

There is proof. Invisible graphics are well known and the mega hits have been proven with repeatable steps. The hard parts is getting the devs to listen.

I don't know what is worse, invis torps one shotting me when I can't even defend myself or the OP NPC version of FBP where I one shot myself by attacking an enemy with a cannon run on my escort

Can you provide the name of the ship and/or torpedo that is causing this? Which mission/TFO? It might appear in the 'what hit me' window that pops up when you die.

Next run I do I will get that but TBH it happens in different RAs and TFOs. I will que for a few things now to see if it happens again.

It does not appear to be single ships or weapons. From what I can see the bug is hitting all kinetic damage both from players and NPC’s but not every hit.

The first time I noticed the bug I was shooting a High yield 1 gravimetric torpedo in ISA and 1 shot killed myself with the shot from full health while at over 106k hull with high resistance. According to the combat log I didn’t die. But I clearly blow up.

It was not a critical hit but my basic gravimetric torpedo hit did 258,428 damage in 1 shot. What’s even odder is I am an Engineer buffed into mines, not a torpedo boat and in a Dreadnought Cruiser. There is no way my mostly unbuffered torpedo that should hit for 39k damage is doing 258k damage none crit either to myself or the enemy. Wouldn't that require me to be on something like -250% resistance?

So I did more testing, I took around about a 30k damage Tricobalt mine and dropped it next to a cube with me next to the cube again in ISA. Not every time but damage from my own mine would at times hit myself for 102,668 without a critical. My normal hit should be around 30k. I did the same test in CE but the damage was correct at 30k each time.

It appears that something is massively magnifying kinetic damage both from players and from NPC’s. Somewhere around here I still have the screenshots and combat logs from the testing. There are also reports of swarmer's doing massive damage doing more damage then 4 players in ISA. But in other content they do normal damage. I assume the same bug is magnifying there kinetic damage.

EDIT: Not got time tonight as it means going searching though months of data. But if it’s helpful I can forward the combat log and screenshots tomorrow. If you could let me know the best way to pass this data on?

Tholian Thermionic Torpedo is an example

Same with Swarmers when they die, warp core breaches for nearly 250k dmg

Another example is the Hurq invasion final battle in gamma quadrant. The repulsor beam shows one on me bu the damage logs has over 20x damaging me. I see one distinctly but they melt me and the log shows multiples

Here, i'll repost my screenshot of a normal photon torp doing 80k from a romulan mogai.

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline/#/discussion/1243609/photon-30k-80k-torpedo-damage-bug

Heres a link to the thread I posted about 2 weeks ago about this.

    20180916170849_1.jpg

Thats a 30-40k normal hit from a normal torpedo.

    20180916170916-1.jpg

And that there is an over 80k damage shot.

These were mogai in a patrol mission done at level 65. I'll log into the game and edit this in a moment to check the system name, see if I can remember.

Thats not a critical hit at the bottom, it's a good thing that the shields absorbed it. The map was Beta Thoridor.

Making this post to give you guys a comparison.

    20181018003827-1.jpg

I 'think' this is closer to a realistic value for a torpedo. Actually looking at the logs it looks like the base damage for these guys is far far less compared to when I was fighting in the other map(where it seems to have been more than doubled!)

    20181018004232-1.jpg

Another example, this map in comparison to the post above, was Gamma Eridon. I think these values are FAR saner than the terror that Beta Thoridor was. For one, my ship was even hit directly by a torp and the armor managed to make a difference. While these are standard frigates, seems to me so was the hegh'ta in the previous map if I recall correctly. 10k damage seems just, more sensible compared to 25k base damage.

Surprisingly, klingons in beta thoridor again. This time on my fed, one of them tried to kill me with a salvo. By some miracle I didn't die to it. I kept Emergency power to shields up at all times this time to tank the hits, but anything heavier than what amounts to a frigate...I dunno.

If that was a crit i'm pretty sure the little adv escort i'm in would have been turned into slag.

I've run into this recently in the Delta Quadrant, in fact just this morning. Facing Vaadwaur Interdictor Cruisers and Assault Cruisers, their polaron barrages do 50000+ damage, and their quantum torpedoes do about the same, sometimes 80000+ when it is critical, and their cluster torpedoes are almost always instantly fatal. This is enough to often take shield facings down to zero and hull strength to 25% or less, or as some have noted, a one shot kill if it is all criticals, which sometimes it is. I was flying a Manticore with 51000 hull, during the mission to recruit allies I had to respawn no less than 30 times to complete the Turei portion as the Vaadwaur ships were killing me the instant I engaged.
