Dates are wrong...unless we are travelling back into our temporal ships...
This weekend, we’ll start with a social triple Red Alert bonus event. The Borg, Elachi, and Na’kuhl red alerts will all be running from 8am PT Thursday, September 27th to 10am PT Monday, October 1st
So we'll only be able to do these during a 'Red Alert Weekend', instead of anytime now?
This an attempt to force people into the queues for a mark type to get their marks? As someone noted to me once, they're only in for the elite mark, for regular marks 'just do a borg alert'.
*grabs popcorn* This could be a very interesting flame war. And possible litany of 'I quit' types.
And if folks are wondering how to fast level their ships....Undine Assault is your friend.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Yeah, sounds like this is a 'nobody plays other queues' move to remove RAs from normal access.
It's what you do when you DON'T have a good idea to improve things.
So SOP for Cryptic.... "How do we make other TFO compete with RAs? We remove RAs!"
#gTFO...of RAs!
I can't wait to see what the next 'too good' queue is that Cryptic will remove after RAs are gone!
Glad I gave up on my alts, cause I used to run the Borg RA for my daily bonus of X marks for reps on each one. Took awhile to do on multiple toons, but now they'd want me to run a normal (aka 'long') queue to do it. Nope.
A 20hr CD would have been a better first step. Most players probably only hop in once a day per toon for some easy marks and mastery.
And I work every weekend. So thanks for making another weekend event.

Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Got my popcorn.
Back on topic...
Gonna be interesting how this works out. Good to see Elachi and Na'Kuhl listed as well. But the question now is how often will we get these weekend events? Weekend Events in general have been somewhat sparse the last few months. Granted it was the Summer of Events, but still...
Another issue I see coming up is accessability to certain mark types. Competative might start getting harder unless people queue up for more than just Core Assault. And Lukari marks are going to be a bit rough too, especially since Gon'cra is still borked all to hell.
Seriously Cryptic... I love a good battlezone, and Gon'cra has potential... but its pretty much unplayable in its current state.
Omega Marks are never going to be a problem.
Romulan Marks are never going to be a problem.
Nukara Marks are never going to be a problem.
Dyson is doable thanks to the Dyson Battlezone, although I believe that battlezone needs a bug pass.
Undine Marks are doable thanks to the Undine Battlezone.
Delta Marks are never going to be a problem.
Iconian Marks are doable, but running Gateway to Gre'thor can get a bit dull.
Terran is doable thanks to the Badlands.
Temporal is doable thanks to the Badlands.
Lukari is going to struggle. Gon'cra is broken, and the STFs for it actually require some teamwork.
Competative is going to struggle. The STFs requires more than just shooting things, And I don't like the forced PvP element in Core Assault because the teams can be so unbalanced in skill that you get spawn camped FOR TEH LULZ at the final room, preventing your team from even getting out to do ANYTHING.
Gamma Marks is doable thanks to the Gamma Quadrant and Swarm STF.
So, yet again, Cryptic takes popular content run daily by many players and makes it a limited Weekend Event going forward.
can somebody tell Al Rivera to get it through his head that gating/removing popular player content does not entice players to play other content that is poorly designed in the first place; it just makes them want to stop playing this MMO altogether because lead Devs like him continue to make utterly stupid decisions.

Nope... sorry, that's a bad change...
I would definitely end up with less marks and will be stopped dead in my tracks for any reputation because I will NOT spend 5-6 Hours on a Saturday and/or Sunday grinding something.
The Red Alerts were the perfect opportunity to just jump into the game for 20-30 Minutes a day and still feel like you accomplished something, feel like you still progressed.
With this? Yeah... let me guess, there will be buyable Mark Packages in the Store soon?
About time they did this.
Now to balance out the other ques, make endevour weeklies that consist of a space and ground or something, keep working away and maybe one day the end game will be back.
You should get the daily bonus amount from first mission in the daily cycle then the regular pittance for the others on KP.
Can't help but think this RA tweak should have come sooner to give some time to eval it's worth and impact properly instead of being clumped in with the extension to rep grind on the assumption of "she'll be reet" as the saying goes.
The apparent refusal to fix problems (namely gon'cra) should have been addressed as well.
Players need content to justify spending money on ships and for cryptic to rely heavily on the queue system is just asking for trouble when their revenue stream basically relies on churning out ship after ship. Ships are NOT content, they are a tool, a means to participate, nothing more!

The efforts of the Alliance have made a difference in the galaxy. The constant incursions by the Borg and others have been beaten back, thanks to a herculean effort of thousands of Starfleet, KDF, Romulan Republic and Jem’Hadar Captains working in concert. We can’t guarantee that these forces will never return, but all four quadrants are a little safer today. Excellent work, Captains.
Starting this weekend, Red Alerts are moving from being always available to being special weekend events, with improved rewards! When these Red Alerts are live, you’ll be able to earn 35 Marks of your choice every time you play, with no cooldowns to prevent you from getting back into the action. These Task Force Operations will return to the galaxy regularly, as the groups of invaders do their best to take control of the four quadrants of the galaxy.
This weekend, we’ll start with a social triple Red Alert bonus event. The Borg, Elachi, and Na’kuhl red alerts will all be running from 8am PT Thursday, October 4th to 10am PT Monday, October 7th. You can run these events as many times as you like over the weekend, and build up some Marks in that reputation you’re working on, or save up to get ready for Tier 6 Reputations!
OTOH I can finally do 100 queues on a Gamma recruit...
On yet third hand, yeah, getting Lukari and CW marks would be a... challenge now, and not a good kind either. Kobali BZ isn't particularly fun either, umpteenth time around.
And on the fourth hand, I'm kinda glad they're doing it. I got sort of burned out on RAs, and having them as weekend event can make them if not exactly better, then at least a non-issue most of the time.
As long as there is at least one (former) red alert active at all times, I'm okay with this. Otherwise, yeah, you just murdered mortally wounded some reps and the ability to progress them.
Competitive especially will be extremely problematic since it seems no one queues for them anymore and they will not be covered under the new random queue system you're putting in. Everything else I can just queue up normally and pick up victims other players who decided to take a chance with the random junk.
Don't like this idea at all and I will complain about it a lot. But I also realize that you are not going to change your minds about this idiotic bad decision so I will "get used to it". I will not like it though.

There, I declared that, and I feel better for that!

The ELITE marks you can get 2 a day from the last two missions on Kobalistan. Not sure on the normal marks. Its been a while.
Now to balance out the other ques, make endevour weeklies that consist of a space and ground or something, keep working away and maybe one day the end game will be back.

yea it should be random ques every weekend
Or you can just do the story arc and get good loot and gear instead of skipping.
Competitive especially will be extremely problematic since it seems no one queues for them anymore and they will not be covered under the new random queue system you're putting in. Kobali ground does reward marks, but they are pitifully small, I believe 7 for each of those final 2 missions.
Losing faith in humanity, one person at a time.
Most arcs are horrible for levelling ships...
