And yet another hour and a half ?? What the heck!?!?! I play numerous games including Star Wars The Old republic, World of Tanks, Dungeons and Dragons Online, steam games and console games. Never in all my years of gaming have I seen a game require numerous days each and every week for "maintanence" nor have I ever seen it take more than a few hours. Never this 5 hours. Nope make that 7. oops again now its 10 hours bs. And thursday yet again we wont be able to play for even longer ? This is really getting frustrating. My game time is already limited and now looks like now for the 3rd week straight I dont get to play. Guess I'll go spend my money on a game that actually is up more often then down unlike STO. Sad too. This is my favorite game.
I'm having unexpected game time because of sick-leave... so yes, downtime is annoying, but if they're still doing server upgrades, I won't complain about that. And, by the way, tomorrow is the next maintenance, and no maintenance on thursday.
To improve your online game experience, we will be performing a number of upgrades to our network servers throughout the month of September 2018. Our goal is to provide quality services and stable servers for you to enjoy Arc games. Upgrading the hardware of our servers will help create a better experience for your favorite games, and allows us to make additional improvements in the future!
Folks, maintenance was extended for a bit. I'll keep you updated as I know more, but we're looking at closer to 11:30 PT at this point.
It's past time you explain to us why there has been so much maintenance in the last week.
It's been explained numerous times on all forums and social media that all these maintenance are HARDWARE updates by PWE. They are doing work on Servers.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Every week after server updates i have what looks like driver issues , stuttering , rebounding , severe FPS drop when i enter combat , by severe i mean my FPS goes from 30-45 fps to 2 fps. The crimson edition drivers look great when i first log in then i crash to desktop as soon as i enter combat.
Sounds like you're playing the game through Steam AND Arc, which is a surefire way to break the game. Download the standalone launcher and use that to play. It actually works, unlike Arc and Steam.
I hope after all this maintenance is done the rubber banding, etc, decreases, cause I have friends who experience this type of disruptions nightly for like 4 hours but during the afternoon theres none of this, the times in question are 7pm est. thru 11pm est. if anyone is interested. I for one do not experience that much in the way of rubber banding but it has happened.
I have had a little of this in Breach runs for the event. It's not too bad, at least from what I have noticed, but I have seen plenty of players complain in chat about the lag and rubberbanding lately.
However, this is more likely an ISP issue or an IP conflict or any other number of issues, not a server issue. I'm in the UK and I get no observable lag or rubberbanding and that's despite not using a proxy.
I have a 1000/1000 Mbit connection with virtually no latency to any of the major datacenters in Europe, and yet still get some rubberbanding during STO's busiest hours. Even when it's not busy it still has periods of being rather unresponsive. The server hardware and/or their connection simply isn't fast enough to send data at a consistent rate.

What is going on on the 27th?
From what I saw in another thread somewhere, there is NO maintenance on Thursday 27th September.

Bummer about the extension but it's about time Cryptic switched the STO servers, it's a shame STO doesn't have its own server(s), from Direct Current (DC) to Alternate Current (AC) ... Tesla was always smarter & better anyways than Edison.
What is going on is the Infinity Lockbox is being released. I was being a bit coy.

Well hopefully the positive trend continues. I was having weird jitteryness in sector space (+some other areas) and after last weeks maintenance it magically vanished.
Any details on the extended maintenance? What's keeping the techs so busy these days? Would be nice to know the reason... and don't be shy on the technobabble, we're trekkies after all
Also, Spear... regardless of the time you choose, someone will be impacted. Schedule it earlier, and the eastcoast folks have their evening ruined. Schedule it later, and the west coast has their evening ruined, along with euro morning. My guess is that the maintenance is scheduled during office hours at the server location so the techs can work on it during their regular office hours. This way, the folks who usually pay their way (IE people with jobs who play in the evening hours) are least impacted. It's a reason I can get behind. Since you do not know the reason for the extended downtime, your assumption that testing stuff on Tribble may reduce it is... questionable at best. I bet the user database of Tribble is a few orders of magnitude smaller then that of the live server.
After having worked at a real job and now have been retired for close to 4 years, the time they chose to do server work, is nothing more than an inconvenience for me, and I am a east coast person so sometimes I have to wait until later in the day, or just wait until the next day if I chose. A while back bought a life time membership for STO, the other Cryptic game I play at times is COL, I guess I should have done the same thing there, but being retired I have to watch my $$ a little closer and plan for stuff like that.

I run it from Steam regularly, and don't have any issues. But then, I'm on a GTX 1080, so won't have issues so much anyway.
On a separate note: Worrying that they had to suddenly extend it again. Someone didn't fail to use static protection and burn out a component with a spark from a rug, did they? Shocking if so. ^_^ Hope the extension isn't too long, anyway.

I'm using ARC for STO , i have Steam for many games but it is not running when i log into STO , i shut it down with task manager before i log on to STO .
i was having issues with my vid card to, 2 different computer same issue, as a PC tech, if you haveing issues, it was seem to be the upgrade but it can also be your gpu failing, as long as you have a e-pci or agp slot you can run any vid card that will fit those slots, got a 710 1 gig for $35 on amazon, works great and better then the 210 I had in it
As usual, two hours extra and then probably another two hours (nine hours total). Glad I did my let's play video before noon and won't be doing any tomorrow.

Right. Several days, half the day each time and well beyond how long they said it would take. Sounds very professional to me.
And that's why I said it with a smiley face. It is not written in stone that a new Lockbox will be forthcoming with the 'Expansion' so there is still time for an Infinity. That is why I've switched to my backup date of October 16th. Any later will get any possible 'Recruiting' Event into conflict with the Winter Event.
Right. I'm sure they'll pass up an opportunity to change up lock boxes with the significant release. I mean look at all the other times they have.

No patch, but that doesn't necessarily mean no Infinity Lock Box. I don't think a maintenance is even necessary to switch to one of those.

I considered failing gpu but 1 - i run Skyrim with settings maxed and do not have frame rate issues , 45 fps in combat most of the time , rare it drops to 30 fps , 2 the fps drop only happens with STO , the issues always coincide with server/game updates
Why haven't the migrated over to cloud based servers? You can run all this maintenance on the back end and still have the game up until deployment of said patch deploy it then simply announce that the server is coming down for 10 min for the patch to take effect but i guess they are still stuck in 2008.

2008 was only two years prior to the game's launch, so the engine was never designed for cloud based servers, likely? Since the original iteration was imported from an even older game?

Edit: Posting fixed it... weird.

Edit: There it is. So it will almost certainly launch on the 9th.
