Ever since the first patch during the crystalline event, I've been having severe lag in the STF. I had ZERO lag before the patch. It got so bad one day that I was penalized for being AFK. I only have this when the game is downloading something (like when loading a new map and it says "patching files" in the top left corner of the screen). When I load a different map, everything lags up as if it's trying to download when there is nothing to download. When that happens, everything else is affected. I have on-demand patching off. Most players have a better connection than I do, so if the game is downloading, or attempting to download something, they wont notice it. When I am lagging in the game now, the results are exactly as if the game is downloading something.
Side query: Why are there multiple IP connections for STO? I always have three, sometimes four connections. What is the point of this? They always fluctuate intensely when loading from one area to another. And one almost always has high latency.

In game handle @darthvrooks
Again, this only happens with STO when STO is downloading something and everything is affected (like Discord voice chat). Discord shows my connection in the red when I load maps (that shouldn't happen at all) which has been the case since I started playing by the... 4th or 5th year of STO. Now when simply playing the game, sitting idle over ESD, I'm lagging so much that I'm not only in the red according to Discord's connection meter, I'm also being disconnected from voice. I'm being disconnected in voice just by being in the character selection screen.
This ONLY happens with STO being open. If it were my connection or ISP, everything should be affected all the time. It's not the route because everything else is affected. Discord wouldn't be showing any interference if it was the route.
The game acts like it's trying to download something at all times. Even the launcher is taking 10 min to get done checking the version. I have file streaming shut off. Every time I change maps lately, it says "patching 40 files 0/0kbs". Unless there's something I don't know about, there's something broken.
Not only that , the last 5.5Gb update took around 7 hours to download. I did a similar size update on steam which took 30minutes.
I have a lifetime subscription and my understanding is that I'm supposed to get connection preference as well, yet I often get disconnected after being in game for several hours. I have a very reliable 25/5mbs internet connection with local ping of <30ms
way more than enough to stream 1080p video content.
The last time I contacted support I made the suggestion that we need a STO game & patch server here in SE Asia / Oceania region to cater for this side of the planet and make this game playable for us all down here. They suggested I propose that on the forum. If Steam, EA & Ubisoft can put game servers here, how about you guys!!?
grabbed some video with demorecord, since @ambassadorkael#6946 says it helps: (link)
other details:
It may have been related to the Beacon of Kahless, since I'd fired it off a minute or less before the lag started. I've used it on other maps and had no problems, though.
I was flying a Fleet T6 Heavy Escort Cruiser, other teammates had a Jupiter carrier, an Ambassador (presumably the T6 version), a Mat'Ha raptor and a Kahless War Cruiser.
the "TFO: Borg Advance" mission completed on 11/18/2018 at 7:43:30 pm (US Central Time), if that helps track down internal logs.
edit: deployed the Beacon in ISA again (this time on the tac cube at the end in order to minimize inconvenience if it was the culprit), and there was no lag/Q spamming the "pause" button on his TV remote.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
The other possibility is the route from them to you, which is almost never the same, could have an issue.
It's always possible that it's the route, but when it conveniently happens after a patch but was fine before the patch most of the time... just like the last patch. I've been having intense lag again. Going so far as to give me SNR.
Good lord. This so bad. I can't even report an AFKer because the connection is so bad. Reporting causes the game to lag up and then the report system times out. HOW POORLY OPTIMIZED IS THIS GAME?!
I also KNOW lag, and they weren't affected by it to that degree. I've seen it from both sides.
I have never had lag of any kind in this game, but this last weekend I was getting unreal lag. I did an ISA mission where I didn't even spawn in until both sides had blown up and even then I couldn't move.
I had noticed that the problem occured mostly when I would change maps. If I could actually get into the map I was fine, but I had so much lag trying to change maps that I was usually frozen for half the mission. Turned out the cause was 'On Demand Patching.' I usually keep this option off, but somehow it got turned back on. It was the same on both of my computers, so I am not sure if there was an update that did this or what, but it was re-enabled.
I turned off 'On Demand Patching' in my Launcher Options and now I can play fine again.
This might not help everyone, but it fixed my problem. At least until something else breaks.
Are you saying it's okay to be AFK and useless causing folks to not get as many marks as possible for things they NEED? Are you also trying to derail this thread?
Good advice. Anyone with lag trouble should do that.
I have that turned off, but the game acts like it's still on.
Hey Cryptic or ARC or PWE or whomever it is, guess what? I am having massive lag with STO causing all other internet usage (like Discord voice chat) to have high latency. And it's after a patch. And again, this only happens with STO when STO is downloading something (like transferring to a map for the first time). It's in the new TFO, as usual, and it's at it's worst this time when I fully buff up. I'm not using the new console either. 2k ms in Discord caused by STO. Finally had SNR in game, and fully lost internet connection. AS SOON AS THE GAME WAS CLOSED, THE INTERNET CONNECTION CAME BACK!
If it's the game, fix it. If it's your ISP or something on the route, get on them until it gets taken care of. Yes, you CAN contact the owners of the route and let them know there's a problem.
Edit: IF it doesn't work:
Also me and some others had best results, for now (mostly) on setting up the game proxy to EU. I don't know why.
-No responsibility here, your mileage may vary, it may possibly improve things for you now (like it did for me) but on the other hand it might instead badly affect your game connection stability/connectivity, and any effect of that setting (good or bad) may be temporary as things change.
