That said I'd like to distance myself from those insulting others on the basis of liking a certain TV show (as much as I personally hate that show).
It is a sad world though, with people liking TRIBBLE, new Star Wars, no Stargate shows on the air. Well, let's hope for the Orville, enjoy the last season of Killjoys and believe in The Expanse.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
And whether you like it or not, DSC IS canon. It has been said before but is worth repeating;
CBS says it's canon. They own it and can call it whatever they want.
Trek fans say its not Prime.
Those are 2 different things.
CBS can make as many alternate timelines as they want. Some might actually be good.
But don't be fooled to think that CBS labeling it Prime timeline is anything other than a cashgrab.
If they had any morals they'd have done like BSG. Say it's a reboot/re-imagining/ whatever and live or die on the shows own merits instead of falsely hanging on to Prime's coat-tails.
And this is exactly why I have a problem with Discovery being touted as 'prime'. It's a conflict of TOS. Nothing matches up.
Agents of Yesterday pretty much confirmed STO's stance on the 2260's. For the Federation that means the old Velour uniforms and old-style ships.
For KDF that means Klingons in retro-virus Humans and non-carcass starships. They didn't try to re-imagine anything. And Klingons since game launch have been in the TMP to VOY look. General Martok and Worf wouldn't know wtf these things pretending to be them are and why they've never ever shown up before or after.
So, I've got to know how this is going to be handled in any story for it to make any possible sense. Aberrations like this are usually fixed by either Daniels, Timeships or a Q itself in this kind of temporal paradox.

NO , this is NOT Star Trek !
Are you trying to drive half the playerbase off?! Because that's how you drive half the playerbase off.
Really? Some of us are actually quite excited about this and you certainly don't speak of behalf of "half of the playerbase".
And it IS Star Trek.
i spoke for half the player base , not the whole , do you have reading problems ?
the other half , filled with kids thinking DSC is canon are not even true Trekkers , just action movies fans
As a 52 year old grognard, I take exception to this caricature... I have seen ST in all of it's incarnations, and Discovery is just as much a part of the franchise, as is ST: V...
Cool. And this fall already? That probably it's not that big of an update, so close after the Victory is Life expansion, unless Cryptic has hired extra people in the past few years? Or are they on constant crunch time?
Dear Cryptic Devs: If you're held in the Cryptic basement and are not allowed to escape, give us a tiny hint, so we can inform the authorities. Maybe an Admiralty Card with the description. "Help, I am tracked in a Star Trek Online Game Factory!"
Beyond that, I just hope that you will also find time to get some type of Exploration Redux, with a title like "Age of Discovery", it really seems appropriate.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I am not really sure it matters which Star Trek show Cryptic base their game on. At least, for me.
Since I haven't seen most of the TV shows, anyways. I just catch up on episodes as content gets released in the game. Of course, I won't have that with Star Trek Discovery. At which point this stuff becomes what it is: just content.
As for Star Trek Discovery TV show, it is not my thing. I did not like the mean spirited characters, the quest for cheap thrills, conflict over everything, everyone is bad or trying to be badass....which was going on in the episodes I did watch. I gave it a chance...wasn't for me.
(And that goes for almost all speculative fiction shown on TV these days....and having the name Star Trek on the label doesn't make Discovery stand out to me.)
I think I will stick with Orville, X-Files, People of Earth and a few other shows...until those are gone.
But the reality is: Star Trek Discovery is dark, negative action type thing....which is exactly what Star Trek Online IS. So...together, story wise, it is probably gonna be a good fit. It should be easy to pull off.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. There are pros and cons with this, so I suppose I'll list mine.

On one hand, I'm happy we're going to be getting new content, and apparently not just a one-off-throw-away mission like Terminal Expanse was for introducing the Kelvin Timeline into STO.
Con
It sounds like another Fed tutorial set in the ST:D era. We already have 2 Fed Tutorials, I guess someone thought a 3rd was needed. To me, it's not.

A new voice actor reprising their current role, I support this.

Having to put up with the ST:D Klingons that absolutely break established canon. Call them whatever you want, they are not MY Klingons. Enterprise established the Klingons as looking like TNG era Klingons but then came up with an idea that allowed for the look of the TOS era Klingons. It was ham-fisted but it works. Now ST:D goes and breaks that and creates an entirely new look that doesn't look good, to me.

A new queue, sounds interesting enough but no idea how it'll turn out. I'll err on the side of it being decent enough for the time being.
Con
Another Rep to complete. *sigh* Oh, and we're going to have T6 in reps now? *sigh* More grind is not a fun thing in my eyes, but I suppose I should wait and see how it turns out. Just difficult to see another rep AND another level added to Reps and see anything positive.

Apparently we'll be getting a new recruitment event to go along with this. As an altaholic I approve.

Apparently we'll be getting a new recruitment event to go along with this. As an altaholic who has made 3 alts for the Delta Recruit rerun and 1 Jem for the Gamma Recruit (and I'm willing to bet we'll see a rerun of the Temporal Recruit before this hits, for which I will likely make another alt), I disapprove. While I love making alts and enjoy actually leveling thru the low level content, enough is enough. Spread the events out a bit, please.
I don't mind the obvious changes to the look of the "Trek tech" between a show made 50+ years ago but set 10-ish years AFTER a show made today. Budgets increase, props and sets start looking better along with the ability to make visuall FX look 'real'. If TOS had double the budget they had, I bet things would have looked a lot different that what we actually got back then.
Some of the uniforms irk me, but the uni that Captain Pike is wearing in the recent ST:D Season 2 trailer looks nice. Will they have the shirts that are seen in TOS, or will they end up more in the style of the Kelvin Timeline uni's? I can deal with the small differences between the Kelvin and Pike ST:D uni's compared to TOS. But the main uni worn in ST:D, while it does look nice, it does not fit in with the aesthetic of the era.
Over all, I have to say I'm already not looking forward to this. However, this is day one of the announcement and very few details are known. Things could come to light and change my mind about it.

Is blind panic really how we're going to start the conversation of a Discovery season?
Well, it is our traditional way to welcome new things on the internet.

tier 6 on all reputations? you mean grind all the uncounted reps on all my chars to 150k or 200k or 250k exp? hell no !!! this sounds so discoraging that after i read the news, i stopped the small amount of amiralty grinding i was doing already. sheesh!!!
But why not wait a little while - spring maybe? We just made new characters. Now we make another a couple months later?

Discovery IS CANON and it's Prime Timeline, whether you like it or not. CBS owns the IP, not you! I'm 43 (seen every series, film and most of the Fan flicks, so dare say I'm not a Trekkie........and I thought Discovery was great apart from the Spore drive. Take a look a the trailer for Season 2. You'll see TOS UNIFORMS and the Enterprise is clearly based of the Pilot TOS Episode. Just because Discovery has different uniforms and sensibly updated the visuals, it does not negate that it is Trek. The storyline was pretty decent and the characters were fantastic.
But.....I do not want to be exploring in the DISC era.....I want to explore, I mean really EXPLORE in our current timeline. This is what we've been asking for !
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I'm going to reserve judgement on this until Cryptic gives us some more information about "Age of Discovery" and what, if any, impact the game running alongside the TV show will have on our 25th Century characters. So it's a bit early to decide whether I will create a new character for it. Time and further articles will tell.
And for what it is worth I wasn't that keen on Discovery when it first started, but I stuck with it to the end of the first season and I have to admit it has grown on me. Mind you, in my head space it is a bit to the left of the universe I grew up watching in reruns back in the seventies. As is JJ's version. And neither are anywhere near the storage cupboard at the back of the basement in the furthest corner of my mind where I stored my memory of Star Trek V...
They can cut them financially. But they haven't. Star Trek Discovery is incredibly popular, despite what the vocal minority would try to tell you otherwise. CBS took a gamble with Discovery and it paid off. Now they're working on pitching several other Star Trek shows in addition to producing Discovery.
I am right in assuming Age of Discovery will be another temporal faction, or is it going to be an expansion of the already existing Temporal Agent faction? After all, TOS and TRIBBLE are close together in the time line, basically the same era.
As for all the Discovery hate, none of Age of Discovery will be mandatory, so I see no reason for it to tank STO.
Personally I like parts of TRIBBLE, so I'll eventually play it.
I haven't seen TRIBBLE and don't plan to, but have they explained why the Klingons don't look like the Klingons we know and love? If it is prime timeline it seems a bit broke.

Agreed TRIBBLE is trash (Id say my actual opinion about this pile of fecal matter, but Id get banned)
Oh well, I can already imagine it as STO before the UI revamp and lighting 2.0.
