will there be a patch tomorrow to update the login screen
That will very likely be the case.
Not to mention it will most likely also include a server downtime, as is usually the case when a new update/patch/event goes live.
I've been reluctant for years to say too much about it for fear of getting it nerfed, but the staging area in the Solanae Dyson Sphere's Undine Space Battlezone is a gold mine of 600+ point Doff assignments.
Other Doff hot spots include the colonization nebulas, where you can find missions that award 300+ points in two experience bars at a time once you unlock them through the assignment chains.
You can rack up over a thousand Military commendation a day just from boarding and security drills. Operations commendation is as easy as scheduling poker games and camping trips. Someone mentioned the Gamma commodities earlier; working with those unlocks repeatable and lucrative Science and Medical commendation. Colonial commendation is as easy as recruiting or buying Colonists and dropping them off around the galaxy. This is doable, y'all, and it gets easier as you go because the game throws better and better quality doffs at you as you clear benchmarks.
Or go without the Epic Doff, if you weren't going to use him anyway. It's hardly mandatory. This is a catch-up event for players who are thinking about making their Jem'Hadar their mains. If those toons are just going to be your Dilithium farming mules, take the easy account-wide unlocks from the event (whatever they turn out to be, probably more dilithium and reputation marks) and be content.
Do Dominion Faction Captains count as a Gamma Recruit?
As I read it, they are exclusively the Gamma Recruits.
Yeah, it's gonna be kinda like the temporal recruits, where only one race/faction can become a recruit.
I believe that to be a good thing, but there are a few issues with gamma recruit (and dominion toons in general) I am kinda worried about:
Will the Jem toon be able to partake in all the episodes (of the chosen faction, after completing the toturial missions)?
Reason for this concern is the fact that if a jem were to be unable to do those, he'd be locked out of all the mission-locked rewards and would be locked out of many locations that need an episode to be played first (i.e. Sphere of Influence)
What I'd like to know is when the heck you guys are gonna offer the lifetime subscription sale again. I finally managed to save up enough cash in my Steam wallet to buy it at the sale price, and have been waiting for what feels like FOREVER for it to happen again.
You're out of luck dude. First, the lifetime sub was never for sale on steam, the only thing they had there was the steam pack, with the steamrunner starship. Lifetime sub, like the packs, was only available on the website, and second, lifetime subscriptions are no longer available. Like, at all. Sorry.
Umm, Lifetime subs are still available, regular monthly subs are the ones that went away. But yeah, you can't buy the LTS from the Zen Store or off Steam, you need to buy it directly from Cryptic/ARC.
And I forgot to ask in my first post but, are we getting a free character slot with this recruitment event? We have in the past but things change so I want to be clear on that subject.
Also, if there is indeed a free slot given out, will those of us who are at the max number of characters get it? Since I am one of those players, I'd REALLY like a definitive answer to that question.
It clearly says in the post we are getting a Free slot. Can't say if it will increase MAX slots however.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
any bonus to rep rewards or regular mission rewards? Would be nice if they had a boost that made all mission rewards at Ultra Rare.
Unlikely, but not impossible.
The temporal recruit kinda set expectations very high when it comes to benefits coming off having a recruit but remember that back in the day the delta recruit only really had marks, a few devices and traits.
I am kinda wondering if a jem could run to the temporal officer at ESD/Flotilla/1st City right after completing the tutorial and claim ALL THE rewards from delta/temporal recruits immediately. I mean normally, those rewards are level-locked, but the jem starts off at level 60 and doesn't care about those "restrictions"
"Reach Level 4 in any six Duty Officer Commendation Categories"
Er, that will be the slog of all slogs...reduce it by 3? Better yet, remove that part.
Eng / Tac / Esp / Med
Those I find are easiest to level up.
If you have the right doffs... can do the Dev one that gives over 1k every 3 days.
Colony, Maruder, Recruitment, Science & Exploration are harder. Good thing they raise the bonus commendation boosts now huh!
Don't forget that Development is an easy one to level up. You don't really need optimal doffs, as the expedition doff mission, on top of things like the Tsunkatse tournament pretty much just require...doffs.
I have questions:
So the Gamma Recruitment Event starts tomorrow. When does it end?
Can other characters be GRs, or only Dominion-Fraction Jems? (ie can my new Cardassians be Gamma Recruits?)

JHD only. Gamma Recuits. Cardi is regular fed or kdf race that you can unlock.

20 hours of straight up playtime?
Still not really THAT much of a requirement if you ask me^^
I mean they DO REALIZE that all it's gonna do is make players level up to 65 and then spend most of the remaining time afk. I know, this is made to stop people from exploiting the hell out of the reward system by repeatedly recycling characters, but all that requirement is gonna achieve is to make players level to 65 and spend the remaining time afk.

Considering that Jem'hadar gamma recruits will have their own stuff to complete to unlock, I don't think they will spend all of their time AFK.
Actually, this ain't about the gamma recruits themselves.
This is made to stop people from abusing the reward system too much by doing the following:
1) Create a large number of Jem'Hadar characters
2) Redeem the rewards of all 3 recruitment events
3) Move anything not bound to character to other toons
4) Continue refining dilithium until it runs out and either convert to zen or move to other characters
5) Delete those characters
6) Back to #1
Of course you can still do that, but it puts a bit of a limit on the number of characters this can be realistically done with.
I was hoping that if they did a recruitment event we would be able to make characters from other factions, but I guess this is more like AoY but without the Federation only Bias, and less like the Delta Recruitment. Pretty much how Romulus rolled out I guess.
My Main (I have 12 other captains, plus a few deleted) has 984 hrs, 23 minutes played. Has completed every Rep except Competitive, at lvl 4. Exceeded lvl 4 in all commendation categories. She is lvl 20 in all R&D Groups, except for 'Beams' and 'Kits and Modules'. She has spent 90 Specialization points and still has 13 pts that she hasn't applied to a group.
Many of my characters are like this to some degree or other. Doff and Admiralty leveling, and I enjoy Red Alerts for marks and just fun.
I don't see a problem.

A few specific unique rewards will also be available only via the Gamma Recruit system. Here are just a few examples of the tasks that will be set before Gamma Recruits, and what they may earn upon completion:
Reach Level 4 in any six Duty Officer Commendation Categories:
- Epic Jem’Hadar Warfare Specialist Duty Officer
Reach Level 10 in any three Admiralty Campaigns:
- +1 Admiralty Assignment Slot
- Admiralty Ship: Odo’s Flagship
Spend a total of 90 Specialization Points:
- Improved Secondary Specialization Traits
- Improved Demolition Teams
- Improved Arrest
- Improved Unconventional Tactics
As you can see, many of the same things that players do while playing and levelling their characters will earn Gamma Recruits improved rewards!
I have logged 755 hours on this game according to Steam. My main has a total of 39 spec points. Most Doff categories are at level 2 or 3. The admiralty campaigns are the only thing I have out of all that. After 755 hours. Most players do not stay nearly long enough to benefit from this. Only hardcore fans will benefit, so saying this is "the same things that players do while playing and leveling their characters" is ridiculous.
*sigh* Not that anything will change. I'll still make a new character, but that's because I planned to do so anyways. I figured I'd try a science captain, and the new delta quadrant stuff at the same time. I just don't expect to benefit from these rewards.
I'm under the impression that Dominion toons will be able to go back and play their affiliated factions' leveling missions after they've completed the arc of episodes that launch with "Victory is Life," but I'm hard pressed to recall the source for that information now. I want to say that I saw a dev say this on this board, but don't take that as gospel just yet. Somebody else might be able to provide better confirmation here.

All I can say is my TOS-AOY Tactical officer has 4 Commendations maxed already. All the rest are at 2 or 3. And I definitely am no where near 755 hrs played on that character. So it's easy to get 6 maxed. And I play only a couple of hours every night. And I only processes the DOff missions once per character per night. It's not difficult to do. And gets easier with the better quality and quantity of DOff's you have.
Meanwhile That same character doesn't have a single Specialization filled out. SO Doffing, on my schedule, is way easier than gaining Spec points.
And that same character has all 4 Admiralty Campaigns maxed.
During the Temporal Recruit Event with AoY, I created a Recruit on the second week when there was 250% XP. That was about July 12th. By late October that Character had maxed out all Specs and was starting to collect 2,880 Dilitium per Spec Point.

It clearly says in the post we are getting a Free slot. Can't say if it will increase MAX slots however.
That free slot and the salvage bonus for the other characters is the only reason I might make a gamma recruit since I have exactly zero interest in playing a Jem'Hadar. All the nice toys in the world do not make up for a totally uninteresting two-dimensional character in actual play and I doubt if I will play the thing any longer than it takes to unlock the salvage bonus for the other characters. Playing a Jem'Hadar sounds as odious as playing a Magog from Andromeda would be if that were a game.
I wonder if the free slot is usable by other, more interesting characters after the event is over or whether the slot deletes if you delete the Jem'Hadar that originally occupied it? Really, with all the gamma quadrant races in DS9 would it have killed the devs to include an "alien" option for the Dominion faction like they do for every other one?
Or better yet, alien and a few canon races like Vorta, Hunters, Dosi, and Kremma? Hunters especially would make great zen store packages with their neat gear and could be an alternate to the Jem'Hadar non-leveling thing. Dosi and Kremma could explore the logistics side of the war with armed freighters and something like the WWII Q-ships for a regular leveling part of the faction for instance, and Vorta would fit right in with that too. It would make for a good change of pace and provide a different experience for the faction, something STO has been loosing with the shift toward non-faction content lately.
It is not inconceivable that some other Dominion races could end up in the military, especially the Hunters. I could really get into a "defective" Vorta with warlike tendencies who is thrown in with the cannon fodder to get rid of it efficiently but survives and advances instead for example. The Jem'Hadar are about as meh as a wet dishrag at best.

I doubt that slot would disappear if you deleted that character.
Also, that salvage mechanic is only for that recruit I believe. The same way the extra dilithium was only for delta recruits themselves. My only complaint for that is I wish the salvage was trade-able between characters.
As for extra dominion species, I would love to play as others. However as for the storyline, only Jem'Hadar make sense (and possibly Vorta, if they rework it). Also, the Founders would never trust anyone else as the warriors of the Dominion, especially given how it worked out for them with the Cardassians during the Dominion War.

There's no reason you can't use Vanguard, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
The temporal recruit was per faction (meaning TOS-fed faction), not per species, for example.
