Who thought this was a good idea? Every time you change your char that page shows up. Why? If it's just for information distribution they could show it once on your first login of the day and be done with it. Seriously, in the name of all players who like to cycle through different alts every day: give us the option to deactivate it, please.

Then you have not been here very long at all. We have had raging flame threads where people claimed there had not been any news posts in months when the reality was that there had been multiple news posts daily for the exact time period the person claimed there had been no news at all. This happens a lot.

I'm not that much on the forums or reddit, only there when I have a reason for it. Though I can't find the news without problems, like on the launcher or facebook. Haven't seen anybody in the game complaining about no news from STO.

Designing things that are actually worth doing is the way to get us to do stuff.

Or fixing stuff we liked to do like viscous cycle and undine infiltration queues that are bugged for over 2 years now. I'm sure it would have taken less time to track the fire extinguisher bug than to create this banner thingamajig. People don't play queues anymore because queuing system itself is somewhat broken and most of the queues are broken too, not because they don't want to play endgame.

What's wrong with viscous cycle? I have doing those a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, haven't experience a problem with it.

Gekli didn't take his Ginkgo pills and stops following like every time. Also the Borg groups sometimes forgets to spawn in and the timer runs out on both - at least on Elite level. But it's been a while since I've went to check it out, release notes certainly didn't address either in the past 4-5 months.

Ah ok, haven't been playing it on elite, only advanced.

The game is working fine for me on my computer. And I only see the one landing screen pop up when I sign on....on the character. (Not every map change as I thought I saw someone say that).

Yes I wish there was more relevant information on it for today....
but I understand this must be some sort of generic version for testing.

Will it update often? Will it replace the Calendar??
PLEASE post the DATES the EVENTS are running on the Landing Page...right up front. It would be very useful, as I am constantly having to look the dates up via web blog.

This information should be on the Character Select screen, as it (sort of) is on the Console versions. So why isn't it!? It is tedious having it appear on every character change.

However, it gives an avenue to those players who haven't read up on the latest information before logging in. It's surprising how many players ask about events etc, yet don't know how to open their Journal! So throwing it at them is a good idea  Maybe have a month where they have to retype the entire article before starting playing will teach those pesky players! Again, good idea, awfully bad execution.

Ugh... ultimatums of "do x or I quit" now?

Guys... seriously... it needs refinement, and its been said its not even working properly right now.

*sigh* Why do I even bother. Resident voice of reason being drowned by a hurricane of rage the likes haven't been seen since Delta Rising... over a UI element.

I've never been on Reddit even one time I get all of my game news right here on this forum where it's supposed to be I don't pay attention to things on the launcher I never even look at the news on the launcher I get my news from the news page here on the forum I have no problems finding it. again though just because you haven't seen anybody complaining about it in your very limited time that you've been with the game doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

So how long do you think I'm playing the game? I will say: my account is newer than the time I'm playing STO. Also that I don't post much, has to do with the fact i'm rarely on the forums, like I said earlier.

I don't say it won't happen that people are complaining about the news, only saying I never have seen that.

It is a good platform to let players know what's active. As I said in my first post, it needs refinement.

Also, really, really don't like it popping up again on log out (as part of the close out options window). Super annoying.

That I like. Other games make calling up the splash page part of a separate menu and that can be a little clunky to work through. Adding it to the main options menu is simple and interferes not at all with those function. It just calls for an adjustment to get accustomed to the new visuals and button position (ie. the least of all possible complaints.)

Agreed. I really like that I can access this page again so easily and I don't care if the character change/exit UI is one tiny box in the middle of the screen or one tiny box off to the left of the screen that's part of a much bigger box with other info in it. Yes it'll take a bit of getting used to to remember to click out left, rather than center but I should lodge itself in a couple of weeks.
But the fact that you get it on each log off/exit/character change also makes it unnecessary to have it on each character log in. Sorry, but that's overkill.

I think you might not be looking at the potential purposes here for it in the first place. If the intent is, for example, to employ a means of delivering commercial messages, they're going to want to apply it to every log in, and log out, similar to how banner ads and pop-ups work. If they feel something is deserving of heavy promotion because it cost a lot of time and money to make, they're going to want to promote that something as hard as possible.

Cryptic has eight years of demographic data on player/users to tailor it with, and PW has six years of Cryptic's data, and five years of data collection via Arc to work out what ads to apply, and where such ads would be most effectively deployed. Repetition of commercials is part of the formula for advertising, and the game is 'free to play', meaning they aren't relying on a subscriber model, but on impulse purchases. Triggering those impulses as often as possible is in their business interest, (within limits, irritating a customer into a non-customer is a risk with this sort of system)

so, aside from the various alerts from various anti-spam and anti-malware and anti-virus programs people are running, this may be working exactly as planned and intended-iow popping up at your most vulnerable-to-persuasion state as calculated in their metrics based on spending habits of the community as a whole.

You know what. If it didn't add well over a minute of highly irritating jumpy screen that's frankly giving me motion sickness just by looking at the screen, each and every time I change characters, I wouldn't mind so much. We have it in Neverwinter and though it's on every character's first log in per day, you don't see it again that day. And I ignore the Landing Page just fine over there, same way I mentally censor pop up adds. I don't care, I don't see it. But until the added time to change characters, screen freeze and general jumpiness of the screen gets fixed, I'm gonna play something else.
If I want to get motion sickness I'll go outside and play on the swing.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.

Hey folks, we'll be making some changes to the landing page in an upcoming update - it was intended to only appear once per account, not once per character.

We'd still like an option to disable it entirely so those of us that don't want to see it don't have to ever see it unless we turn it on

Great to hear that, although I would still like to have a option to disable it at all.

Maybe next time test it before launching it on holodeck? Would have saved you guys this **** on complaints.

BTW, it's not even once per character at this moment, it's each time you log in on a character. No matter if you already got the screen for the same character.

In short, I hate it and I want to turn it off, even if it's only a once per account thing.

but make it easy to toggle, like the astrometrics in sector space. (does anyone use that?)

But wouldn't a permanent button on the UI (a la astrometrics toggling) be more obtrusive than a once-per-account pop-up? It would be with you all the time.

I decided to really look over this new landing page thing, just to see how helpful it is.

I have just logged in a character and the screen has the following info on it, which I'm sure is the same for everyone...

    Featured Episode - Renegades Regret

Nice to show off a Featured Episode, but this character can't run it, it's greyed out. The character is lvl 60 so I doubt I'm too low level for it. So for right now, this information is useless.

    Updates - Season 14.5

As a long time player I already knew about this updated info. However, for newer players this info can come in handy. Although, the little "Question Mark" in the corner of the Map UI blinks when there is new information of this nature, so you don't really need to be reminded of it every time you log in a character, especially once you've read it. Again, this is useless info after the first read.

    Spotlight - Romulan Imperial Minefield

Cool, promoting a queue, not a bad use of space.

C-Store - The Infinity Lockbox Returns!

Again, as a long time player, I knew this already so not helpful to me in the least. For new players, they would find this info out when they get their first lockbox to drop. All in all, not a great use of space, especially considering you have the recently released Elite Starter Pack you could be promoting in its place.

It's the exact same info when I go to log out the character so all in all, I have to say that this is a waste of resources. Promoting things that can no longer be run or that has information easily available in game already. Shilling for C-Store stuff is expected, but I figured you would spotlight newer items.

There is no news or information about the currently running Delta Recruitment event. No info on the currently running Mirror Invasion event. Nothing about it being a Junior Officer Weekend event. Not even any mention of the Duty Officer pack sale.

So if you're intending to use this to promote things happening in the game, to keep players informed about what is going on, I have to say you've done a pretty terrible job. I also understand that it is currently "broke" and not working as intended. However, you asked for feedback and all I can do is give feedback for what is here.

And even though I said it in an earlier post, I will say it again here. I will live with this "landing page" for when I log in my characters, even if it means it'll be there for ALL of them. But for the sake of my sanity, and probably others, please remove it from the log out screen.

I guess the page's here to stay... so a couple of feature requests  :

    1. Foundry spotlight.
    2. Daily login/online time bonus claim. Something small, like a mystery box with an upgrade piece, buff (exp/dil/stat etc.) or random equipment. You can claim an item when you log in, and then a (better) item after each hour in game (yes, this is invoking from Neverwinter).
    3. Endeavor info.
    4. Dilitium exchange info.
    5. Auction info and updates.
    6. Mail.
    7. Fleet/doff/admiralty/crafting updates (i.e., very rare mission available, assignment comlete, etc.)
    8. Online/recently online friends and fleetmates.

Okay, sounds fine to me. I can live with that. Just put more relevant info on that page and I think everything will be fine, for me at least.

Hey folks, we'll be making some changes to the landing page in an upcoming update - it was intended to only appear once per account, not once per character.

If this will include the option to disable it, you may need to say it now to appease what seem to be the majority of the people in this thread.

I don't mind the landing page. I actually like the idea of having it load on the first character log-in and when exiting the program.

But it seems option is always better than having it forced.

I'll keep it on. I like having stuff highlighted. My only issue was with what was highlighted.
