Fed Cruiser Recommendation

As the title says. What do you recommend for a newly dinged Vice Admiral? I don't mind if it requires a Zen purchase. I've got an Engi Captain and am looking for a beam boat tank type setup if that helps at all.

Hmmmm....there are several that will do. I don't really have a favorite cruiser and sometimes don't put my engis in cruisers at all. One is flying the Vorgon carrier, which is an awesome space whale, IMO.

However, there should be others coming in with their favorite recommendations.

Oddessy cruisers are a good option, the t5 excelsior, the t6 assault cruiser... so many choices, but it depends on the type of style you play, if you want more tank, dps, science oreintated or just fly around like a headless chicken, you got a lot of choices.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

find one you think is the best looking, get it. worry about the rest later.

while there is a brunch of reasons why a ship is great or terrible. really if your gonna be staring at it for hundreds of hours making sure you like looking at it is the most important place to start. everything else can either be worked around or is just not that important

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

The Archon class T6 Intel Assault cruiser is a good choice for a new Vice Admiral. It's a solid cruiser capable of tanking and DPS, though lacks science capabilities.

There's not any real gimmicky stuff for it (unless you invest in the other assault cruisers, which isn't all that useful in combat), so you don't have to worry about making any special build. Just load up the beams and fire away!

The Intel seat does offer some nice options if you want to add an intel bridge officer to your loadout, but it isn't neccesary to be effective in combat.

There are many options for cruisers at T5/T6, but for a beginner I can't think of any other ship I'd recommend. The Archon is just such a simple/effective ship, it is really easy to use for a new(er) player.

I'm aiming for the t6 reliant class in a few months and setting up a character to use it, it's a pilot ship, so it's more attuned to being slightly less tanky than other cruisers. you will notice there are differences between the cruisers on hull, shields and what not.

If you want a more dps leaning one, the Arbiter is a good one.
Also the Odyssey flagship bundle is nice. You can cover a lot of different setups with them.

Depending on your EC stash, there are some good and cheap Tier 5 ships on the Exchange. 3-25M.
The T6 ones get a bit pricier, but the cheapest start around 50M, I think?
But of course, they are one-off ships bound to 1 character unlike C-store ships that all your toons get to use.

Arbiter is tough to beat. Good ship/Great trait. 5/3 weapons and access to OSS3.

Fed Dreadnaught. Canon ship (was in last episode of TNG) if that's your thing. Also if you previously obtained the Exploration Cruiser (give you antimatter spread console), the T5 Galaxy (saucer sep console), the T5 Dreadnought (cloak console), and the T6 Galaxy (can't remember the console it gives you)....But the sets actually are kinda fun with the turn rate boost they give you and a couple other perks. Phaser Lance is amazing if you build the Dread for alpha strike (even on an Eng) when decloaking you can easily spike two 75k hits. When saucer separated your hull is way more maneuverable and the lance becomes a shotgun. Dread also has a hanger, which is kinda fun to putter with. But it has always been my goto.

The Archon (T6 Sovereign) is a good ship, my main toon flies one because it's based on the good old Enterprise-E and that's not a small thing for some fans.

Seconding the Arbiter (T6 Battlecruiser) recommendation if you want something a bit zippier than the average cruiser. Great trait for energy weapon builds and the Ablative Shielding console adds a bit more durability in an emergency.

I sometimes think about going back to my Arbiter; I loved that ship. Right now, my main toon (a Tac Admiral, admittedly) commands a Paladin Temporal Battlecruiser. The 4/4 weapon setup isn't great for cannons, but if you're looking to broadside with arrays, that's not a problem. The Pally's also got superior maneuverability, which can be further enhances with the temporal gimmick (molecular reconstruction, I wanna say?), which comes complete with what I lovingly call the Hate Beam (the part of the temporal gimmick that charges while in combat, and if you've gone full Offensive Mode the whole time is a killer DoT that ignores shields).

Choose the ship you like, indeed.

In terms of pure cruisers (so excluding battlecruisers like the Arbiter) I would choose the Sovereign class or any of its T6 versions.

When one of my engis graduated to lvl 40 he chose the 'freebie' Star Cruiser and flew it for a good while before I bought him the Jupiter carrier.

It's quite a good cruiser and once in awhile he'll still fly it out of nostalgia.

The flagships are amongst my favourites. I'd say getting the Science Star Cruiser T6 - Yorktown. And work up some polaron build on it.

IMO the easiest ship to fly in the game is the temporal dread from the cstore which is quick, has a hangar and very is flexible, unfortunately it doesn't have the classic fed look and comes with a sci oriented trait.
  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,918 Arc User
^I love that temporal dread. I have a sci flying one and she can melt pretty much anything out of her way with the Romplasma/Rom ship set she's sporting on it, along with a hangar of Scorpions.

The Temporal Dreadnought is a good cruiser, though the sheer size of it makes the camera a bit wonky at times. Like having half of it clipped off and showing that it's hollow inside whenever it warps into a system.

The Temporal 3-pack is a great deal if you plan to play toons of multiple factions or with different builds. Most packs grant one ship per faction, but this one gives three ships to every character for the same price. They represent three very different playstyles and have a pretty good console set, though two of the traits are intended for exotic damage builds. On the other hand, they have a rather... aquatic look that not everyone really likes.

if you are going to buy a pack, either the Oddys or preferably the flagships. the tac flagship isone of the best in game

Even though it is a lobi store ship i can not recommend the kelvin timeline intel dreadnought cruiser enough, decent trait, very good console, innate intel abilities, looks good(its shape anyway), has one of the best hanger pets ingame and is selling on the exchange for a very reasonable rate (on PS4) and is technically the only canonical dreadnought in star trek(i mean sure it is from the JJ movies but...).

I find it quite odd how you suggested the T5 Excelsior over the T6 variant which is the Advanced Heavy Cruiser. Hell, the T5 doesn't even seem to come with its own console, only seems to be worth getting the T6 and T3 variants for the console set.

I stream on Twitch, look for Avoozl_

Can't go wrong with the advanced light cruiser pack. one ship for each side, and the fed one has a ton of visual customizations. small, swift and can take a beating.

Personally I'd go with the temporal dreadnought cruiser if you are looking to do more than fed since it's cross faction unlock. That being said for fed only I found the JJ Dreadnought on the exchange to be a really sweet cruiser to fly if you like going offense more.

Command Battle Cruiser bundle is not bad, tanking and quick for ships their size with decent DMG output

Nice. I got that starter pack as a freebie from one of the giveaways and tried the ship out. Loved it and at least one captain uses it a lot.
