Orville won't make it unfortunately for a number of reasons. Most of which are no one likes science fiction that has humor. I love it. Think it's great. Loved Trek except DS9 which was ok here and there.............Enterprise was like Star Trek 1, can we forget about it? If they just had not used the stupid theme song. It was awful. I try to re-watch the last season of Enterprise when I see episodes on because it was just getting good. Once they made it a bit more gritty and dark it was about right for a show that had "hey we are in deep space and it is a year at least to get to a base station outpost on the frontier let alone a starbase.
Let's hope that Orville can live long and prosper and not drop like an egg

no, the tea tax was the final straw that triggered the revolution...the cause was the british king being an insane tyrant
Actually, the insane tyrant was his predecessor who had been over-taxing to pay for one of the wars with Spain. The king at the time simply kept going with it and may not have even understood why it was a bad idea.
Your unwanted elderly family members. ( I'd include my parents, only my mother seems to always know when I'm being a smart mouth towards her, 89 years old, and hits you like a runaway bulldozer. )
Your English accent mixing with my Australian one, and being asked how did I get such a strange accent or being asked " What country did you come from, certainly not from Australia, due to your accent. "
You wanna talk about mixed accents? Americans. They control all media (except Game of Thrones), we'll all be talking like Ranger Rick in a decade.
Besides, we let you shove your dinky flag up in the tiny corner of our mighty big flag, cause we had to cover up something that our first Prime Minister did while running amuck after parliament passed the Happy Hour Bill. He climbed our first flag pole after 30 glasses of beer and wrote something about England there, fell off, said something that no one understood and passed out.
They never did find out where the Kangaroos carried him off too.
I don't understand any of that, but if you want the flag you can keep it. The only flag I'd fly is green white and orange and it's not India.
Why you British folks even continue to put up with Queen Rat-Bag, and her can of elite, inbred mutants is beyond me.

Football is physics, anthropology, and the sweat part is chemistry.
Otherwise known as "meaningless ball chasing." And people get paid millions of dollars to play a game.
Those people are making the team owners billions. So yeah, that's a fair piece of the spoils. Commercial time on an extended sports game pays a hell of a lot more than any scifi show that's going to air on Fox, so don't expect any changes to this policy.
If you were to magically take away American football, the money currently spent on it would not be instantly funneled into humanitarian causes. It's being spent on entertainment, and the medium of entertainment is the only thing that would change.
Did an American just refer to their sport as 'American Football'? That's the first time I've ever seen that out in the wild.

It's not that uncommon.

I'm not an expatriate, I just have coins from countries you've never heard of.
Just completely remove them from even a ceremonial position in government (taking hereditary Lords and those bleeding bishops and their despicable state church with them, seriously, it's us and bloody Iran that still have unelected theocrats poisoning our governments) and don't bother with a Head of State at all, we haven't used one for centuries, the Head of Government is fine (well not this one (or the last 4 (excluding Brown)) but in general).
Cut the Royal Family down to the Monarch and spouse (not even their siblings), their children and spouses, and their children (who are currently too young for spouses) and make them a State assest. We part fund them with taxes to continue to act as they do in terms of being tourist draws and ambassadors and so on and they part fund themselves, you know, as they're the largest landowners in the country.
As they'd be State assets we'd still automatically receive a cut of their finances as well as the reputation bits they already provide and we don't have to fund any more than about 30 odd people.
If they don't like being public servants then they have the freedom to chose a job in the private sector, maybe all those nationalised vital services might let them join, they like rich old people with no useful skills.
And have the National Trust or English Heritage (or the Scottish and Welsh equivalents) seize control of all but Buckingham cottage and Windsor house. Again, as State assets, the royals can then lease them to use for their shows for the Japanese and Americans.

The tax on tea was actually lowered. Several of our Founding Fathers were making good money smuggling tea in and selling it more cheaply than the East Indies Company monopoly; Britain reduced the tax in order to cut into the smugglers' profits. It worked, too.
The Declaration of Independence lays out the justifications for the American Revolution. You might note that "tea" isn't even mentioned in there; taxes are referred to once, in the shortest line of all, and I would think would probably be more related to the Stamp Tax than the tea tax. (Nobody threw stamps into the harbor, though, so it doesn't get the same sort of play.)

Not going to lie, I don't find anything about seeing a "royal" as a tourist draw. What would I do? Stare at her and take a selfie with her on the throne? Doesn't appeal to me.
I can't understand wanting them to be ambassadors either. Ambassadors of what? Were I head of state, I'd want to deal with ambassadors who had some influence.
Well they're not really aimed at you then. We've got a lot of history and the royals are a part of that and people pay to see it. I personally think it's daft but I'm not going to argue if it works. Same with ambassadoring, the Queen especially knows a lot of foreign heads of state at a personal level (including some really dodgy sons of mothers like the KSA royals) and she's not overtly racist like her husband meaning she makes friends. Obviously she's leagues above Andrew (I think it is) who got the job of ambassador and made some very dodgy deals that had the happy side effect of making him a tidy sumnothing at all, my client is innocent of all charges.

Well, the core of it was related to money, like most things in life, I think the "tea party" is it's often called is mentioned most because it's an easy to remember story.
The phrase "No Taxation Without Representation" is just as important since one of the big complaints is that if people wanted to present a case to have the laws changed they had to take a ship to England to do it! Even then it accomplished little more than asking nicely.... which you can do by mailing the king a letter.
Heck, in some cases if people were accused of a crime that required trial in front of a judge they'd have to choose between "admitting" guilt, or going to England to stand trial!
It was a long list of systematic incompetence and tyranny, with taxes being one of many complaints. Taxes weren't even the only monetary thing. The king was also forcing the colonies to feed and house an army he'd sent there to ensure they stayed loyal.
Even if there are plenty of people here that can probably find nothing particularly interesting about the Queen or the Palace, there are also plenty of people in the real world that do, and I believe the numbers actually suggest that the tourism the monarchy invites makes the whole thing a net positive.
Paraphrasing:

She has no real power to actually do anything about it. But he still has to go to this dignified, respected person, and explain his actions and plans. It might be a moment of subservience for the person that otherwise holds the most powerful office and everyone else is normally looking up to.
Imagine you had this in the US. Imagine that a President Trump, a President Clinton or a President Obama had to go weekly to this woman or man and explain his conduct, and then bow out once finished. Wouldn't this really change their self perception? (Would a narcissist like Trump even be interested in this if he knew this was part of the job? He'd more likely try to become King or "Uncle Sam" as Fry names the hypothetical US position for this post.)

Thread has gotten so far off point, time to bring it back on topic?
Episode 3 launched yesterday, wikipedia doesn't have numbers of US viewers yet so i don't know if it's been an early success on numbers. Episode 1 had 8.5 million viewers, episode 2 had 6.6 million viewers and if episode 3 gets even less despite the move away from American rugby it wouldn't be a good sign for this show and Fox.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
The thing I heard was that the numbers were lower, but that is not a big surprise - time slot change, and no big football lead in. I think the numbers for episode 3 might not be as useful as those of subsequent episodes.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I missed it because I forgot and because I was binge-watching Qin: Alliance on Netflix.
It's not really my cup of tea, but I started watching because it concerns a period of history in a place I've seldom had the opportunity to study. After dealing with subtitles, cultural bias, and wierd editing techniques, I've grown to enjoy the piece. It only gets one and a half stars on the ratings, but I've seen four-star dreck that can't hold a candle to this Chinese production.
So far I have only two complaints:
1) I need a Chinese friend, (well, one who grew up in Chinese culture, anyway,) who can catch the significance of things I miss because I lack the understanding of Chinese values.
2) The damned thing made me miss an episode of The Orville.
Other than that, if you are a fast reader and enjoy historical based dramas, give it some screen time. I'm sure it's about as historically accurate as Braveheart, but it illuminates a culture with which I am unfamiliar, and at my age it is a joy to learn something new while indulging my lifelong passion for human history.
I thought Orville episode 3 was really good. Watching Orville is like watching an episode of the next generation just with better humor. I especially like the fact that things always don't go the way that you expect, that there's a kind of reality check in the show even more so than TNG.
Yep, that third episode was surprisingly brave, yet fun enough. Here's hoping they keep at it and find a large enough audience.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
From what I recall from history class, the Boston tea party was actually two years before the Declaration of Independence was signed. The crown responded to the vandalism by passing a series of strict laws that among many things disbanded the local legislature in Massachusetts and completely shut down Boston's port. The colonies pretty much paniced and it escalated quickly from there.

TNG didn't end every epsisode happily, either.
And in fact, TNG's episode about a similar situation, a self-identified female in an asexual society, also ended with the woman being returned to its people and being "fixed" (aka brain-washed).

First episode of this I watched was Thursday night. Episode 3, I think. I was surprised by how the whole thing was not just played for laughs. The Orville was presented as a comedy when I saw the trailers. Seth McFarlane has long identified as a comedian and comedic actor.
I was very surprised at the topic and content of the episode. I was equally surprised at the tone. All in a good way. It was a good effort which was enjoyable to watch. And how often does this happen these days?
I am going to enjoy and support this show. I have found something I will make time to watch. Just like I did Firefly. Unfortunately, this show will probably go down the same path Firefly did. Because commercial TV execs in America cannot see past the end of their own noses and nearly all of the "Hollywood Elite" are totally disconnected from the rest of us.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
The numbers are in with 4 million US viewers, over the three episodes already there is over a 50% drop in viewers. See what episode 4 brings and that episode will be the key to what happens to The Orville going forward, if the numbers stablize or get better i could see it making a few seasons on Fox, but if it drops even further i can't see it going beyond mid season break and from there, what will happen?

Then i hope for you and others here to get a petition ready to be launched to have the series shopped around to another tv broadcaster who can do a better job with it. Longmire was with A&E and there was an overwhelming desire to see the series continue, where it was shopped around and ended up on Netflix where several more seasons were picked up.
So long as there is a strong interest to see the series survive, Fox may be willing to pass the baton, but that depends on Fox executives.
