Anyone notice Norm MacDonald is the blob?

Anyone notice Norm MacDonald is the blob?

    Yes. I did.

His voice is annoying as hell. The only person whose voice is more annoying to me is Bill Hader.

Plus, the character is irritating. He was in two episodes for a grand total of less than five minutes, and I want someone to douse him with copious amounts of quicklime.

Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
    8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

In what market? Around here the football game (SEA vs TEN) ended well before the show started - thank the Great Bird, because the game was pretty much a stinker no matter how you look at it.

and yet it was probably still better than Discovery in spite of being a sportsball match.

Ah, so you've not watched it? Good, you don't deserve nice things.

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I actually really enjoyed DSC's premiere. The characters seemed well-written, the story interesting, and it was probably the most ambitious series premiere of any Star Trek show. Almost every complaint I've heard about DSC based on the trailers has failed to bare out (so far). Even the aesthetics aren't that divergent. They're definitely not more like Kelvin than TOS.

So, based on the series premiere, I'm optimistic about how this show is gonna go. That being said, would I pay £4/month for a streaming service just for this show? I may be a Trekkie, but I'm not fiscally stupid - I'm on a student's budget! CBS may have been just a tincy bit arrogant making DSC their only notable new show on All-Access. Hopefully viewership in International markets through Netflix, etc will make up for it for a second season.

Or your other best bet is to wait for a DVD release.

My primary complaint, aside from the fact that so far I've only seen half of the pilot, is the overuse of handheld cameras at odd angles. In space, that can be used to give a sensation of free fall; however, aboard ship, as long as the artificial gravity's working there's really no need for it. It was so overused that a few times during Burnham's conversation with Sarek I started to wonder if they'd hired the cinematographer from the 1960s Batman TV show. I'd really like to see that dropped in the long run.

As with the KT films I don't mind the occasional dutch angle or those nice far zoom shots done in space to show the hero ship, the larger villain ship, then the vastness of space. However on a stationary plane (i.e. in the ships and so on) the camera needs to be fixed. It's these camera effects in the KT and DSC that really let them down more than a single design piece or character.

It's the camera that really makes DSC look superficially different to, say, ENT. Not the aesthetics.

    Please support Discovery.

I would hate to see CBS become less charitable to STO because their current Trek didn't do well.

I'm going to give it a shot after all I had to watch Enterprise.

Well....starting this week: "Will & Grace" is running on NBC at the same time as "The Orville".

Not to say one could not watch both at different times on DVR, Internet or On Demand.

Every time I see this thread title I think of Futurama. One of the sewer mutants complains that someone ruined her dress, and Bender replies "Lady, that dress was ruined the moment you put it on."

Let's see. Dime a dozen sitcom versus decent space opera on network TV for the first time since DS9 wrapped.

    Tough choice.

Will & Grace is popular, though with different demographics...and there is a fairly large cross over between the two, I am sure.

I am recording both and will watch both until I get bored with one or the other.

I watched Will & Grace back in the day, was pretty funny. Sitcoms don't really interest me anymore though, haven't watched one in over a decade.

Meh, I've just never liked American sitcoms in general.

British sitcoms, on the other hand... I have no idea why, I find them a lot funnier.

    Because Britcoms are...actually....funnier?

I hold that it's a trope or truism-the more you have to lean on the laugh-track, the less funny your material really is.

Red Dwarf during it's height was something to behold, it was like the Orville, but by design it was a comedy sci-fi.

you should try watching Total Drama. It's a Canadian TV series about a series of fictional "reality TV" shows where contestants get forced to do a bunch of stuff that'd probably kill people IRL. It's hilarious. :D

To be fair, I suspect part of it is a matter of "familiarity breeds contempt". Seeing the same kind of humor constantly makes it boring.

Episode 4 numbers show a much smaller drop than previous episodes but still a drop of 350,000 viewers, it's at 3.7m now. That is pretty bad for viewing figures.
